Step #2 – Prewriting AND Outline – 10 Points
After we have discussed your topic, prewrite to generate and organize ideas.
The easiest way to create a topic sentence for this argument paragraph is to first think about the topic question you chose.
Then, choose a side.
Finally, turn that question into a statement that shows your argument.
Example:
Topic Question – Is curling a sport?
Side – Yes
Topic Sentence – Curling is a sport.
Work through the following prewriting techniques. See chapter 16. Label each part in your document.
· Purpose
· Audience – Not me or classmates
· Freewriting – At least 150 words
· Brainstorming (or Clustering) – At least 15 items
· Topic Sentence – Do not forget main point. What are you trying to prove?
· Outline – Include examples in your outline.
DO NOT INCLUDE A DRAFT AT THIS POINT – ONLY Prewriting and an Outline
