ethics and the justice system

Respond to the following disscussion board in 135 words
Post #1 In order for a decision to be just, it must be fair. All parties’ rights and requirements should be considered while determining a just decision in accordance with state laws and ethics. Making a just decision is not necessarily about choosing what is most favored and valuable for everyone involved. Instead, it is about weighing the moral and legal implications before making a just decision. In order to arrive at a just decision, one must determine the moral and legal implications by identifying the facts of the situation. It is then imperative to pay close attention to the relevant values and concepts. Following an analysis of all moral dilemmas for the parties involved, the most immediate moral or ethical issue should be determined. Lastly, an ethical system or another source of decision-making should be used to resolve an ethical or moral dilemma.

According to my analysis of the means for a just decision, the owner of the violin should be the wealthiest person in the world. I believe this to be the correct decision because as long as the wealthiest person purchases the violin, the individual is given legal ownership of the violin. Additionally, the wealthy person wants to put the violin on display in a museum. It could be concluded that the wealthy person regards the violin as artwork and something of value. Thus, making the violin accessible to the general public and beneficial for society. Lastly, the wealthy person may also wish to preserve the violin for future generations as a historical artifact by storing it in a museum. This is because the individual has the means to support the maintenance and repair of the violin in case the violin is damaged.

Finally, I believe that utilitarianism is the ethical system that best supports my opinion that the owner of the violin should be the richest person in the world. This ethical system was selected because utilitarianism aims for society as a whole to benefit, and only if actions have a positive impact on the majority of people (Investopedia, 2022). Society would benefit more from viewing the violin in a museum instead of paying to see a violinist play it, which could cause jealousy among other violin players. A well-maintained violin will also make the majority happier than a violin that is played and ruined because of abuse and neglect.

Post #2 When thinking about the situation of who should own the violin I tend to consider how this would work in the real world and a watch or jewelry was being auctioned and not a violin or something that means more for one person than another. In an actual auction, the person with the highest bid buys that said item at the price that they bid for. There are of course extenuating circumstances with anything in life per se the person that won did not have the money to pay for it then the person with the second highest bid would take it or a complete re-bidding to keep the process fair. I also use the word fair because it is a very fair way of going about a seller selling an object to whoever is willing to spend more than another person for that object. In most cases at a store, they have multiple objects listed at the same price and plenty for people to buy but that gets complicated how there is one specific object that can be bought. This then brings me back to what is another fair to sell this object to someone that has more meaning to it such as playing it. I could not think of one besides the person that is selling the violin making a point saying if you are buying this violin you be using and playing the instrument. Since that is not the case it is in an auction to make the most money which is why the process of the person willing to spend more money for an item at an auction is just even if they are going to put it in a museum and not use it.
