It’s 1400 BC, and you are a writer for GQ magazine, based out of Cairo (Egypt).
Your editor says she wants you to write a profile on Moses, who is causing quite a stir, demanding in the name of God that Pharaoh set the Israelites free from slavery.
“I want you to dig deep,” your editor says. “We all know that Moses was born to an enslaved woman and somehow became a prophet- but I want you to share things about him that the public doesn’t know- his struggles or concerns, what he prioritizes, and what his relationship with God is like,” she said.
You scratch your forehead. Looking at the evidence in front of you (Exodus 1-16), you are going to need to tell his story- and not just the chronological events. You realize that Moses is a complex person who has faced fear, anxiety, and success in his role.
You decide your essay will seek to answer this question, using Exodus 1-16 as your source of information: What are the challenges of being a prophet?
While the question seems general, you will use examples from Moses’ story. Here you should consider how Moses reacts to being called by God, his fears and successes, and even how his own people treat him.
