The second alternative option for this part of the class available to students who do not wish to open a brokerage account, requires that they read the book “The Economy of Desire: Christianity and Capitalism in a Postmodern World” by Daniel M. Jr. Bell. Students will read the book over the same two weeks and then write a 1000 word reflection on whether they believe that Capitalism and Christianity are compatible within a postmodern context, drawing their arguments mostly from Bell’s book and including three to five footnotes from other readings drawn from class or online.
