Drawing on readings from our time together, analyze one of the following documentaries – In The Flesh (NFB, 2000), Sunrise over Tiananmen Square (NFB) or Marilyn Waring on Politics: Local and Global Show One. (NFB, 1996). The exercise aims to make sense of the main characters’ journeys and how it relates to their self and moral identity.

Positions on social media are divided, and there are a lot of negative reports on media use, addiction, bullying, erosion of interiority, etcetera. But for some, the virtual world is safe for exploring beliefs and goals. It gives a voice to the voiceless and, in some situations, opens a space where adults and young people construct their online desired selves with less pressure. Social media has become, for many, the favourite site of identity construction and meeting places. Again, drawing on our readings, briefly consider each side.
