Your essay should do the following:
Identify a specific issue within the domain of the chosen data set and show that you have conducted a relevant investigation of secondary sources as well as an examination of the primary dataset.
Put the problem into context for your audience, including any necessary background or historical information.
Examine the problem and demonstrate how it’s revealed within the dataset.
Engage and include the ideas, opinions, and arguments of key figures and experts associated with the problem.
Provide a conclusion based on your research that sends the reader away with new insights or areas for future consideration.
Satisfy each of the conditions above in an ethically researched, well-reasoned, and persuasive manner that demonstrates your critical thinking.
Includes a title page, 5-6 double-spaced pages of text (1250-1500 words), at least 2 relevant charts generated from the dataset, and an APA list of References.
Demonstrates the effective use of academic writing skills and strategies
Uses ~5 sources (at least 2 must be academic articles) and demonstrates the ethical use of APA citation practices (APA in-text citations and an APA Reference Page.)
Suggestions
1. Discuss what you learned from the dataset and the visualization. Examples: what limitations are introduced by the data elements (e.g. World Bank income levels)? what granularity of data is provided by the visualization?
2. Explore an ethical issue introduced by the data and explained by the data. Examples: you could choose a specific country and research why measles vaccine rates developed as they did (e.g. effects of colonization, funding, political opposition, etc.); you could investigate the role of the World Bank and World Health Organization and how they make these measurements and what purposes they serve.
