Kia, There are some fundamental issues with your paper. First, as I pointed out about your work for milestone 1, you did not select a person to analyze their perspective on the event. The rest of the paper suffers as result of not making a correction to that issue that I pointed out then. It was the assignment prompt & this paper doesn’t really do that. It is also still not clear to me what your thesis is. Is it the last sentence of the first paragraph? If so, your paper does not actually support that statement. Your paper seems to be focused on the causes of the Depression and the impact of some of the New Deal, but it seems to have some loosely connected facts referenced which vary randomly in depth of detail. You have some bits of information and some analysis about the financial aspects of the Great Depression, but you also have several statements which are simply not correct. This statement, for example, is simply not true: “With only 2% of the American electorate voting for him in 1932, that majority allowed Hoover to stay in office for over six years (Haltenhof et al. 42).” Hoover left office in March of 1931 after the inauguration. He did not win in 1932, and he was not President for over six years. “The New Deal programs by Hoover were intended…” The New Deal was FDR’s program. “President Hoover, through Congress, passed the Glass-Stegall Act in 1933 to raise revenue and stop the bleeding of banks.” FDR was the president who signed that legislation, not Hoover. Then you reference legislation in 1934 and 1937 writing, “These three acts by Hoover…” Hoover was no longer president then. Lastly, and these are the least of the issues. Your paper should use double space. Your works cited references should use italics for the names of publications- periodicals or books.
