Coronavirus Journal
The purpose of this assignment is to have students apply Sociology to the world around them. My hope is that students will find Sociology meaningful and interesting. Students are required to write four analyses that apply a sociology term or theory to various problems associated with the coronavirus pandemic. Each entry must include a sociological term or theory that has been studied in this class. Students are required to write 4 reflections. The journal needs to have 4 entries on 4 different days. Students may make entries in their journals every day for 4 days, write in their journal each week, or write for any combination of days until they have 4 days of entries completed. The entries can be about past experiences. Students may turn in their journal after they have completed the 4 entries. Please wait until all of your entries are completed before submitting your entries into the text box. You can type your entries into a word file and then cut and paste them into the text box in the assignment. Do not submit a word file into the text box. I will grade your journals within one week of the due date.
Important Instructions for the Coronavirus Journal:

The Journal needs to have 4 entries.
Every entry will be about some aspect of the Coronavirus, however, you must use a different term or theory in each entry.
A list of subjects that you can use for the Coronavirus Journal is included at the end of these instructions.
Title each entry with the subject that is being discussed.
Only use one term or theory in each analysis.
Introduce your term or theory in the first sentence of each entry.
Once you use a term or theory, you can not use it again in another analysis.
The term or theory must be defined, preferably in your own words.
When you apply your term or theory, you must support your term or theory with specific evidence. In other words, how is this term or theory shown in the Coronavirus pandemic? What actions or situations have occurred in which you can see this term or theory applied?
Each journal entry must be between 250 – 300 words. Do not exceed 325 words.
Entries must be in Ariel and 12 point font.
Each entry must include a word count.
Indicate the date of each analysis entry.
Proof your entries before you submit them.
Substantial points will be taken off for poor grammar and improper sentence structure.
The Tutoring Center is available online to help students with their writing skills.
Late journals will receive a 20 point penalty per day (including weekends).
Late journals will only be accepted until four days after the due date (including weekends).

Grades will be based on the following:
A: 90-100 points: All entries follow the directions. All entries include one term or theory that is defined correctly. All entries provide substantial support and evidence for the term of theory. The term of theory is applied correctly. The entries all demonstrate complete understanding of the social problem or social issue. All of the entries are well written with no or very few typos, grammatical errors, or problems with sentence structure.
B: 80-89 points: All entries follow the directions. All entries include one term or theory that is defined correctly. All entries provide efficient support and evidence for the term of theory. The term of theory is applied correctly. The entries all demonstrate adequate understanding of the social problem or social issue. All of the entries are well written with very few typos, grammatical errors, or problems with sentence structure.
C: 70-79 points: All entries follow the directions. All entries include one term or theory that is defined correctly. All entries provide minimal support and evidence for the term of theory. The term of theory is applied correctly. The entries demonstrate limited understanding of the social problem or social issue. All of the entries are well written with some typos, grammatical errors, or problems with sentence structure.
D: 60-69 points: Some or all entries do not follow the directions. Some of the entries are missing. Some or all entries do not include one term or theory that is defined correctly. Some or all entries do not provide support and evidence for the term of theory. The term of theory is not applied correctly. The entries do not demonstrate understanding of the social problem or social issue. The entries are not well written and contain many typos, grammatical errors, or problems with sentence structure.
F: 0-59 points: Some or all entries do not follow the directions. Some or all of the entries are missing. Some or all entries do not include one term or theory that is defined correctly. Some or all entries do not provide support and evidence for the term of theory. The term of theory is not applied correctly. The entries do not demonstrate understanding of the social problem or social issue. The entries are not well written and contain many typos, grammatical errors, or problems with sentence structure.
