(2) How does civil disobedience differ from mere law breaking?
(3) Compare the arguments offered by Socrates that we encountered in the previous unit to those offered by Martin Luther King, Jr. offered in his Letter from a Birmingham Jail. How do they differ?
Be sure that you answer all three questions.
Your answers to questions (1) & (2) will be short and succinct.
Your answer to (3) will best be approached by first making a list of Socrates’ reasons offered in Crito for not escaping his punishment, and then likewise listing Martin Luther King, Jr.’s reasons offered in his Letter from a Birmingham Jail for engaging in the direct action of non-violent protest. Once you are clear on the two scenarios, you will find it easy to explain their differences.
