A) Write a thorough and completed journal on the novel by Ernest Hemingway
“A Clean Well-Lighted Place.”
The voice tone Mrs. Mallard used when she receives the sad news, lead readers assume was ironic. She
said, “Body and Soul free.” meaning she was a prisoner of her
This story was set in the 1900’s century. Starting with a young woman who lost her husband in a
railroad accident. Richards was the first to tell the family of the news who is a Josephine’s friend and
Josephine is a Louise sister. Mrs. mallard had no reaction to her husband’s death even though the family
was careful to informed her because she had heart problems. When she was told about it, she stayed
calm and went up to her room and looked out the window and whispered that she was free of body and
soul. She whispered freedom over and over again. She was sure that without her husband she would be
happy and live for a long time, her health would improve as she felt dead in life from so many
prohibitions and lack of independence. But the joy did not stay for too long because within minutes
Josephine knocked at the door witnessing her husband who was not dead. He did not die in that
accident because there was not even one. Since she saw him who died was her because her happiness
and freedom had ended up having her husband alive.
Personally, I am attracted to the way authors draft these stories with the majesty of including a text that
reads in one way but means the opposite. the use of literary symbols is impressive and the inclusion of
the effects of literary terms is relevant. The effects they cause with a deep analysis are interesting.
This story makes me feel very anxious because it is not fair to prefer that a person die to achieve our
freedom. For me, democracy, and respect for the rights of others are important, nor is it fair to subdue
people to impose our will. Today the system of life and customs have changed. We are not prisoners of
our conjugal relationships or the opinion of the society. Today’s date there is democracy for both
genres.
