Compare and contrast the artist you chose for your project with another historically significant artist from a different era. Both artists must have made drawing a central element of the creative process.
• Artists should have significant differences in terms of time period, artistic media, creative vision, or approach. Artists should also have something which clearly connects them, such as subject matter or style.
• Artists may not be from the same family or artistic movement.
• The content of your paper should be equally divided between factual information and your own opinions, observations and comparisons, with a primary focus on specific works of art. Discuss similarities in creative vision and overall philosophy along with what factors set them apart. Your research should explore more than just the basic biographies of the artists. Do some additional reading on your artists and include any useful background information, including mentioning what writers have said about their work.
• As best you can, touch on the role of drawing to their creative processes.
• All artists must be represented in the Google Arts & Culture database. This is a way of ensuring that they are “historically significant.” Start by giving yourself a lot of time to browse drawings on the site. (Note that GA&C is different from a regular Goggle image search.)
• Don’t assume the reader has heard of the artists or previously seen their work.
• Include photos of all artwork you discuss, including two drawings per artist. For each image, be sure to include artist’s name, title, year created and medium used.
• Bibliography: All sources (books, periodicals, websites, etc.) must be cited in MLA format.
• Submit your PAPER as a single file (DOCX or PDF only).
