Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS)
Approximately 1.5 million people are diagnosed with ACS every year. Almost 500,000 people die even before they reach the hospital. Those that arrive for treatment require immediate intervention to decrease mortality and enhance their quality of life.
Recognizing the importance of preventing ACS in the patient population and initiating fast and effective therapy to prevent myocardial damage resulting from acute myocardial infarction (AMI), the Joint Commission in collaboration with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, has created several essential core measures for acute myocardial infarction (AMI).
Visit the Joint Commission website (www.jontcommission.org) to learn more about core measure and view the following link attached that outlines core measure for AMI.
#1- Once you have identified the definition of a core measure, please discuss how does the implementation, measurement, and evaluation of the AMI core measures improve patient outcomes?
#2- How can the role of the nurse in primary/ preventative care establish the foundation for reduction of risk factors associated with development of ACS?
