CONCEPT PAPER

The concept paper is designed to give students an opportunity to examine important incidents in their own lives and creatively illustrate them. The underlying assumption is that the better you understand your own life, the better you will be able to empathize with the occurrences in your client’s lives. This requirement will also provide you an opportunity to incorporate relevant concepts, principles, and theories regarding socialization and environmental patterns.

Each student will prepare a 4-5 page paper examining their own life using Erickson’s Eight Stages of Development demonstrating knowledge of the biological, psychological, and social development patterns. This theory will be discussed in class.

This assignment should be a fun, self-discovery, and reflective assignment. Consult your parents, relatives, and friends to help direct you through this assignment. This assignment is to help you determine who you are as a person.
You are to read, research, and review Eric Erikson’s Eight Stages of Development. I suggest you utilize the public library, social work textbooks, social work, and psychology journals to gather your data. Process in your mind how the premise of the theory, the theories concepts, and it’s relevance to human behavior relates to your life.

Begin your paper with an introductory paragraph that gives your reader a brief overview of who you are. You can express this by using a poem, song, or other creative avenues that you desire. Introduce your theory and how you plan on using the theory within the paper. As you write your paper go through the stages and concepts of the theory as it relates to the human behavior characteristics in your life. The trick to this paper is to be able to integrate the premise of the theory, the assumptions, and the meanings of the concepts of the theory to the stages of your developmental life.
