3-Discuss Stuart Hall’s models of media reading strategies. What are they? How are they interconnected with Hall’s notion of encoding & decoding? How does each of Hall’s reading strategies either align or challenge the Hypodermic model of media effects, and how do they relate to the notions of a passive or an active audience? Make a case for which of Hall’s reading strategies you think is the best to apply to the study of media and media audiences. In answering this, draw from at least one specific media example (film or otherwise) in making your argument/case.
