B Reflection Papers
Reflection paper assignments are meant for students to critically think about their experiences in their field placement. Students will be expected to include the following in their reflections:
• Significant experiences that stood out to you during your field placement
• What you are learning from this experience
• Suggestions or critiques of your placement
• Application of a sociological or criminological theory to help explain something from your
internship
There will be a total of three (3) reflection papers and each will be worth 20 points. Reflections are to be no less than two (3) and no more than four (4) pages. All reflection papers must have a cover page, be double-spaced and use size 12 font and Times New Roman. Failure to meet these requirements will result in the loss of points. All reflection papers should be submitted via Turnitin on Blackboard by NOON. No late reflections will be accepted and/or graded.
How Reflection Papers Graded?
• Formatting (5 points) – Students will be graded on how well they followed formatting guidelines. Is there a cover page? Did they use Times New Roman size 12 font? Is it double- spaced? Is there an extra space between their paragraphs? Are there grammar and spelling errors? Did they meet the required page length? Is there good sentence and paragraph structure? Did they use proper in-text citations? Did they provide a good reference page? – Failure to meet this criteria will result in loss of points.
• Content Analysis (5 points) – Did the student choose a topic that was covered in class? Did the student demonstrate sufficient understanding of that topic? Did the student choose a good and relevant examples to further illustrate their topic of choice?
• Critical Thinking (10 points)- Did the student demonstrate their ability to critically think through and reflect their experiences? Did they provide thoughtful and reasonable critiques and/or suggestions? How well did the student connect theory to their experience?
