Assignment: Critical Analysis of a Research Article

Select an article published in the last 5 years in a behavioral science journal. Make sure that the article is a RESEARCH ARTICLE, or, that the authors actually conducted research. Remember do not use Annual Review of Behavioral Sciences pieces for this assignment. (If you have questions about your article please contact me immediately)
Analyze the article’s methodology by writing a paper that answers the following questions. You may use an outline format and answer each of the questions separately or a more traditional paper format.
Answer the following questions:
1. What is the research question or hypothesis in this article? (if there is no research question or hypothesis, describe what the research is about)
2. What was the major purpose of the study – exploratory, descriptive, explanatory, critical or action oriented? Give support for your answer.
3. Pick two of the variables or concepts that are studied. For each concept or variable, give a conceptual or theoretical definition and say whether the concept is divided into more than one dimension.
4. For each of the concepts or variables from question 2, give the operational definition focusing on indicators. If the indicators form an index or scale, describe it.
5. Comment on the validity and reliability of the operational definitions you describe in question 4.
6. Describe the study’s population, sample, study population and the kind of sample used.
7. Comment on the generalizability of the study. Support your statements.
8. What kind of study design was used? Was the design appropriate? Could there have been a better choice?
9. How was the data collected? What are the advantages and disadvantages to this method? Would different methods have been possible or useful? Comment on the practicalities of the method
10. Evaluate the extent to which the research was conducted in an ethical manner
11. Briefly describe one of the researcher’s major findings.
12. What is your reaction to this research? Do you think the study is useful of helpful to others in some way?
