DISSERTATION REVIEWS ASSIGNMENT 4.9

DISSERTATION REVIEWS ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
For this assignment, you will write reviews on two separate doctoral dissertations. Select two
Liberty University School of Education doctoral dissertations via the Liberty University
Scholars Crossing link provided with this assignment. The dissertations in the Scholars
Crossing repository are organized chronologically, with the most recently published on top.
Click on the title of a dissertation to view basic information for that dissertation, including the
abstract. Click the “Download” button to access the full-text document. Be sure to confirm via
the title page of the selected dissertation that it is indeed a dissertation and not a conference
presentation, thesis, or other forms of scholarly work.
The dissertations you select should not be dissertations you have previously reviewed for this or
another course. One dissertation you choose should reflect the research topic you identified in
Discussion: Research Topic. The second dissertation you choose must employ a research
design type similar to that you will propose in your upcoming Research Methodology
Presentation Assignment. The dissertations you choose must have been written within the past
five years.
The length of this assignment is six pages for each dissertation for a total length of 12 pages (not
including the required title and references pages). Each six-page review must include the
following:
1. A two-page summary of the dissertation. What was done for the study? How? What was
found?
2. A two-page analysis of the quality of the research conducted. What are the strengths and
limitations of the research? What was done well? What could be improved? How would
you do the research differently?
3. A two-page personal analysis and practical application discussion. Describe personal
lessons learned from the dissertation and the relevance of the reviewed work within the
field of education.
Use current APA style throughout the paper. Review the Dissertation Reviews Grading Rubric
before submitting your assignment.
Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.

ARTICLE REVIEWS ASSIGNMENT 4.2

ARTICLE REVIEWS ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
For this assignment, you will write reviews on three separate research-based articles. Select the
three articles you would like to review from scholarly, peer-reviewed research journals. The
articles you select should not be articles you have previously reviewed for this or another course
but should reflect the research topic you identified in Discussion: Research Topic. The articles
you choose must have been published within the past five years.
Concisely summarizing large amounts of data is a skill that researchers must master for both data
they generate and for conveying the relevant works of others in their own literature reviews.
Therefore, the length of this assignment is to be a single page for each review for a total of three
pages (not including the required title page). Each one-page review must include the following,
appearing in the same order as listed below:
1. A one-paragraph summary of the research-based article. What was done? How? What
was found?
2. A one-paragraph analysis of the research-based article. Note: This should not be a
summary of the analysis conducted by the article’s author(s); instead, it is your critical
analysis of the quality of the research conducted. For example: What was good? What
could be better? How would you have changed the research?
3. A one-paragraph summary of the research-based article’s importance to the education
field.
4. A properly-formatted APA reference entry for the article at the bottom of the page.
Use current APA style throughout the paper.
Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.

Discussion Thread: Research Topic 3.30

Propose an educational research topic of personal interest to you. The research topic proposed here will be the topic that you will use for your assignments throughout the remainder of the course. Your research topic may fall within the scope of a traditional research study (e.g., future dissertation) or within the scope of an applied research study (e.g., action research to inform classroom practice, administrative decisions, etc.). Discuss your worldview and why this topic is of particular importance to you in light of a biblical worldview. Provide justification that this topic will be of scholarly relevance to the broader education community. What new “truth” will your proposed research add to the existing body of knowledge in the field or how will your proposed research inform current educational practices?

Additionally, view the School of Education Conceptual Framework: Dispositions (S-C-R-I-P: Social responsibility, Commitment, Reflective practice, Integrity, Professionalism) resource. Reflecting on the resource, integrate a discussion of S-C-R-I-P into the introduction of your proposed research topic and biblical worldview. How does sound, ethical research reflect the elements of S-C-R-I-P?

One way to ensure the articles are qualitative is to look in the results section. If they have a lot of quoted material from the participants in the study and no statistical data, it is most likely qualitative. The qualitative articles can have demographic material (i.e, gender, age, race, etc. of the participants) but there will not be any type of statistics.

Please make sure to upload a Full PDF of the articles.
