The opportunities to collaborate and demonstrate your emerging skills as a leader prompted you to think about applying for a new position. Thank you for your interest in employment at Western Medical Enterprises. We have received your application packet. The next step for all potential employees is to provide a narrative response to the questions in the attached document. Please return your completed document to me by replying to this email.

The Immortalist by

In a well-argued and well-organized essay, discuss the role that North Africa plays in Andre Gide’s The Immoralist. How does Michel’s behavior in North Africa differ from his behavior in Europe? How would you describe Michel’s relationship with the North African boys? To what extent is this relationship determined by colonial relations of power (i.e., the fact that North Africa was a French colony when the book was published). Make sure you draw on specifics from the text.

Global management

Instructions: Please type your responses to these questions. Also, please start a new page for each question. Use a 12-point Times Roman font. Include all the questions with answers in one file and post in Cougar View before the due date.
Please cover everything that you think is relevant to the discussion. I am interested in how you apply concepts and other content from the course. This is not about your opinions this is about using concepts and ideas from our class. You can include information from any other sources that you deem appropriate. For example, Google Scholar is a good resource to help you answer these questions.
Include the question in bold above your answer. You should be able to answer each question in 1-2 pages and please give 1-2 citation per answer – list your citations at the BOTTOM of each answer. The textbook can be included as a citation for each question. However, I expect you to search for information outside of the material we have discussed in the classroom. Use page breaks to start questions on new pages.
When answering the questions keep these perspectives in mind.
The purpose of a business is to make a profit. Profit is accomplished by having sales greater than expenses. Profits can be increased by increasing sale and or decreasing costs.
There are four functions of management: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. You should think about the four functions as a process, where each step builds on the others.
The original four Hofstede dimensions of culture in class; Power Distance, Individualism versus Collectivism, Uncertainty Avoidance, and Masculinity versus Femininity.
1. (1-2 Pages 20 points) China is a high-power distance country, and the USA is a low power distance country. In American Factory – How do the differences in the expectations of power distance create conflict between the Chinese managers and the American workers when performing the managerial function of Leading? Do not explain Power Distance or Leading. ANALYZE the differences and how those differences create conflict. You can focus on the different expectations of behavior of workers and managers.
2. (1-2 Pages 20 points) China scores high on collectivism and the USA scores high on individualism. You can see examples of these differences in American Factory. Use the perspective or traditions of Confucianism to give possible sources of the differences in Individualism and Collectivism in China and the United States.
3. (1-2 Page 20 points) The four functions of management are: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. You should think about the four functions as a process, where each step builds on the others. How do the four functions of management differ by level of management: Line Management, and Upper Management?
4. (1-2 Pages 20 points) Most large businesses are based on the Corporate Model of a separation between owners and managers. The fiduciary duty is at the heart of the corporate structure. Explain why the Fiduciary Duty is so important when the owners are separate from the management of a corporation and briefly explain the fiduciary duties of managers.
5. (1-2 Pages 20 points) Why should we worry about social, religious, cultural, legal, etc. differences in Global Management? Relate this to the purpose of a business; Profits = Sales – Cost.

Homework #4 – External Validity and Sampling

Read the required reading, Amaro et al. (2017), and answer the following questions in essay style.

Video-Based Grocery Shopping Intervention Effect on Purchasing Behaviors Among Latina Shoppers – ARTICLE

1. Explain how generalizability of the study’s findings from the sample to the population of interest
is limited by the three threats to external validity (i.e., selection, setting, and history). Provide
sufficient detail and specificity.

2. The study’s sampling approach can use more clarity. The authors recruited some participants
from Head Start programs which are federally funded programs that provide early childhood
education, programming (e.g., health, nutrition), and parental assistance to low-income families
with young children. Families need to register for Head Start to receive services and
programming. Pretend that you are replicating the Amaro et al. (2017) study but are expanding
the population to include persons of all races/ethnicities. Describe how you would use specific
probability sampling in 3 scenarios: 1) simple random sampling, 2) stratified random sampling,
and 3) systematic sampling.
