THEORY AND PRACTICE OF DIPLOMACY

Answer one (1) of the questions listed below for the midterm examination. Be certain to utilize at least ten (10) sources other than required class readings from categories (a) primary source materials or government or other documents, as for instance, NGOs or IGOs; (b) scholarly books; (c) scholarly journals. The answer should be a minimum of twelve (12) pages of text. Be certain to clearly indicate on a cover page the specific question being answered. Follow the same research, presentation and delivery rules as with the Research Paper.
*Discussion of a theme is vital, and it is most important that students remember that the paper must not be a mere compilation of facts. There must be a clear thesis. It must also be remembered that the paper should not be merely historical in nature but should have relevance to current and future time periods. Narrow topics fully discussed almost invariably are to be preferred to broad topics merely summarized.

* Materials may be researched via the internet. When these materials are listed in the works cited page, they must include author, title, source of original publication, and any other information establishing whether or not they are scholarly sources, government documents, or the like. The internet address must be shown at the end of the works cited listing. The access date should also be indicated. Each paper must end with a Works Cited page. This refers to works which are actually cited (by parenthetical citation) in the body of the work. No other sources (bibliographic or reference entries) should be included on this page. Papers with footnote or endnote citations will receive a one grade reduction. The Works Cited page must be annotated. For these assignments, this means underneath each listing, the author must be identified as to professional background and the publisher must be identified to indicate whether it is a government or IGO source, an academic source, or whatever. This is extremely important and will significantly impact the grade for the examination or paper. Carefully identify the publisher!

*Format: the format of this paper is to be based upon the American Political Science Association style manual. This manual is the one utilized by the political science profession’s journal for the submission of articles. Use those portions of the manual appropriate for research papers. Refer to one of the other style manuals noted in that A.P.S.A. manual for additional information. All papers must have both left and right margins justified!

Disneyland’s Hotel Housekeeping and the laws applied towards sanitation

The student must not just list the laws but must outline what laws apply and provide an analysis of the specific laws to the operations.

Length:
No less than 7 full pages of discussion, double-spaced. 7 pages full of content not including citations. If the paper is not at least 7 full pages, 15 points will be deducted from a possible 60 points available for the paper. The font size must be 12 pt. Times New Roman or Courier New. I need to be able to read it to grade it. Please do not use endnotes, footnotes or a reference page for your citations to your authority for your facts and legal arguments. Such pages will not count towards the 7-10-page length requirement. Also, a face page with your name and title of your paper DO NOT count towards your 7–10-page length.

Law:
A research paper that relies mostly on the text, cases and statutes referred to or provided in class as additional reading cases may result in an up to 10 point deduction out of a possible 60 points available for the paper. You may use statutes and regulations from the web. As an example, if you want to research the Americans with Disabilities Act, you may want to look at www.ada.gov If you want to research food safety you may want to take a look at
www.fda.gov or similar sites that have regulations and statutes available. You can access several cases, statutes, and rules as well as articles on various legal topics by using the online University Library. If you go to the online University Library–then click “Research Guides” and then click “Legal Resources” and then you will be presented with two options, “international law” and “Legal Information”. Once you open up either “International Law” or “Legal Information” you will see several tabs that you can choose from to start your research.

Citation to the Law:
For cases, please provide the name of the parties and then the cite where the case can be found; i.e.; Thomas v Harrison, 21 US 451 (2012): Thomas and Harrison are the parties, the case can be found in book 21 of the United States Reporter at page 451 and was decided in 2012. For statutes, just use the citation that is provided in the code. The same for any regulations that you cite to, such as the ADA. I expect that for each “fact” or “argument” that you provide in your paper you cite (tell me where you found your fact or argument) to the legal authority that supports the fact or argument. Papers that provide facts and arguments without providing the citation to the legal authority to support the fact and or argument may have up to 10 points deducted out of a possible 60 points available for the paper. I need to know where you obtained your facts and support for your arguments.

What I am Looking For From Your Paper to Grade It:
A total of 60 points are available. What I am looking for is not an exhausted research of a specific area of the law. What I want to see is your recognizing of the legal issues involved in a specific area of hospitality management and your ability to analyze the law to the operations. I want to see your topic outlined with a discussion and reference to the specific laws (statutes, cases, regulations) that you have found and are applicable. Further, your discussion of the law and the application of the law to your subject. I also want your recommendations on the law as applied to hospitality operations for the suggested topic of your choice. As an example, if your topic is room reservations and the law applied, you may discuss how to make reservations more enforceable if necessary, in a court of law.

Using the book, An exploration of Christian Theology by Don thorsen chapts 1-16

Using the book, An exploration of Christian Theology by Don thorsen only chapter 1-16
To integrate faith and learning, that is, academic studies (building critical thinking skills) with the walk of faith (theological appropriation for faithful Christian living), students are required to submit a well-written position paper . Make at least five (5) references to ideas found in the textbook by Thorsen (2020). In the introduction to your paper, be sure to include a clear single-sentence thesis statement (italicized or underlined) from chapters 1-16. The position paper should also reflect on your context of theological interpretation in relation to the topics raised in this material. (Note: In the Week 2 video lectures, I include a video on how to write a clear single-sentence thesis statement.)

First Position Paper : Choose to write about an issue found in the first half of the course (chapter 1-16), dealing with issues such as revelation, authority, scripture, God, Trinity, creation, humanity, sin, and Jesus Christ. I
n arguing for your position, you need to contrast your position with at least one alternative position on the issue you discuss. Although this is a theology paper, you should talk about the relevance of scripture for the subject matter. You don’t need to do additional research for the paper (beyond the textbook), though you may do so if you want. Be sure to include correct APA notations for your references to sources, and include a reference list at the end of your position paper.

Note: Aim to show depth of thought in your writing. Show your understanding of the concepts in the reading. In other words, the position paper should be both text-oriented (what you observed in scripture and the readings) and reader-oriented (what you experienced personally). Do not write in generalities! Never simply say, “I enjoyed the reading.” Always tell explain why!
