Week 8: Final Exam
Hide Assignment Information
Turnitin®
This assignment will be submitted to Turnitin®.
The final exam is an eight (8) question essay exam. This exam is cumulative and includes questions from material throughout the course. It is due the last day of class.
Please answer each question in a complete and comprehensive essay with a minimum of 400-500 words. Your work will be run through TurnItIn. It is expected that you use your own ideas and proper citations. Quoted material should be minimal or not used. An essay is usually defined as a short piece of writing. Therefore, an essay is written in paragraph form with attention to grammar and spelling. It should be concise and should directly address the question(s). Do not include information that is off-topic.
You should refer to your lesson and in-class readings and resources to answer the questions. Outside sources may be used but you will be graded on the credibility and academic nature of the sources. You are required to cite any sources that you use. Proper in-text citations should be used and a references section at the end of each question.
Each question is worth 10 points. If spelling, grammar, and proper references are not at graduate level, points will be deducted. Plagiarized or extended quoted material will not count as your work and no points will be awarded.

Please use separate pages for each question response. Copy and paste the question before answering it so it is clear what question you are addressing. You may submit as a Word doc or a PDF. You must have a TurnItIn score for the exam to be graded.
Questions:
1. List and define the stages of the policy cycle including what and who is involved. Explain how environmental health research is a component of the policy cycle. How does environmental health research contribute to the implementation of sound environmental policies?
2. Discuss at least three different agents (not diseases) of occupationally associated diseases and injuries. For each one, discuss the industries associated with them, the work settings, and the types of adverse health outcomes. What is being done in these industries to prevent them?
3. Why do we need to be concerned about injuries? Discuss the significance of unintentional injuries for morbidity and mortality globally and in the United States. How do unintentional injuries rank in comparison with other causes of mortality? Describe the potential economic, social, and emotional costs of unintentional injuries.
4. Discuss drinking water in the United States. Where does the water come from? Describe the four stages of water treatment. Which step is critical for deactivation of potential pathogens? What potential pathogens are deactivated by this step and which have the potential to survive (give specific organisms)? What agency regulates drinking water in the U.S.?
5. Children are especially vulnerable to environmental pollutants. Choose an environmental pollutant to discuss. How are children exposed to it and what health effects can it cause? Why are children more susceptible? How strong is the evidence for this as a cause of disease? What can you do to advocate for children’s rights involving this pollutant (this must be realistically capable)?
6. Describe waste management in the U.S. What are the methods for reduction of wastes? What are benefits and hazards associated with the different methods for waste management? How does waste in the U.S. affect developing countries?
7. What are human health effects due to climate change? What chronic and communicable diseases are increasing due to climate change? What steps can be taken as a population (not individual) to reduce climate change due to anthropogenic sources? How do international treaties address global climate change?
8. Discuss microbial sources of foodborne illness and the risk factors for foodborne illness. Describe methods used for the prevention of foodborne illnesses and what type of food microorganisms they can kill. In your discussion, include viruses vs. bacteria vs. worms vs. other agents and how they vary.

Discuss which researcher’s operational measure has high validity and high reliability?

Prepare: Review Chapters 1 and 2 in the course text and any assigned additional learning material. In addition, please go to page 19 in your course text and review Exercise 4.
Reflect: Reliability and validity are two very important tools used to reduce or eliminate measurement error. If we can ensure that a measurement is consistent and that the properties of the measure do not change between measurements, then we can assume that measure is reliable. If we can ensure that a measurement records what it is intended to measure and nothing else, then that measure is considered valid. A primary goal of all types of scientific research is to eliminate or reduce errors, such as systematic measurement error and random measurement error. Consequently, all professional political science researchers aspire to create research products that are error free, and so should you.
Write: In your initial post of at least 250 words, review Exercise 4 and then complete the following:
Discuss which researcher’s operational measure has high validity and high reliability? Please explain your response.
Discuss which researcher’s operational measure has high validity and low reliability? Please explain your response.
Discuss which researcher’s operational measure has low validity and high reliability? Please explain your response.
Discuss which researcher’s operational measure has low validity and low reliability? Please explain your response.

Describe and evaluate the strategies employed by the adults to engage young children in music and comment on their effectiveness in engaging the children.

TITLE:
Task 1: Music Arts Portfolio

WORD COUNT:
Equivalent
to 1650 words

PURPOSE:
Teachers in early
childhood and primary settings are required
to plan, implement and evaluate arts curricula. The purpose of this task is for Teacher Candidates to demonstrate their understanding of
arts-based teaching and learning with children. Teacher Candidates will
draw on knowledge gained from the art form – Music and develop and present an Arts Portfolio. The aim is
for Teacher Candidates to examine their experience of music practice and
teaching and develop and extend themselves as teachers of arts curriculum with
children.

This Music Portfolio requires Teacher Candidates
to plan an engaging music experience for an individual child or small group of
children, with a focus on performance, composition and/or listening. This plan
will be accompanied by a written exegesis that outlines the Teacher Candidate’s
planning influences and choices, with support from relevant literature.

TASK:

PLAN
(approx. 800 words equivalent)
Using
the template provided, plan an engaging music experience for a small group of 3-5-year
old children or an individual child, focusing on performance, composition and/or
listening. You may choose to develop one of the experiences undertaken in the
music workshops, something you observed on placement, or you can develop your
own idea, based on the particular learning needs of your focus child/ren.

Rationale

In
the rationale section of the template the suggested word count is 50 words. You
are asked to connect your planning to a focus child(ren), so that you are
demonstrating planning for, and using as a starting point, the interests of a
focus child. It is envisaged that you write one or two sentences that connect
your planning to the interests of the focus child(ren) in the rationale
section. For your focus child, use the “Case
study of a focus child for music assessment” which has been uploaded for
you.

JUSTIFICATION
AND CRITICAL REFLECTION (approx. 850 words)
This task can be written in first person.

Part 1:
Justification
Write an accompanying justification of the
planning choices you have made with reference to key readings. Evaluate the
teaching strategies you have selected in your plan. Include a justification of your
stated objectives.

Part 2:
Critical reflection – connecting your planning to your own experiences
Reflect on your own musical experiences as a
young person, and in the 4 workshops you attended. How are these reflected (or
not) in your plan? Include personal thoughts and opinions. You can also include
reflections from current or previous placement experiences with young children of any age, or if you have
worked in an early-years setting, you can also connect your planning to your
recollections from these experiences. You can use your experience in the workshops for your reflection (Workshop outline attached)

You may include any of the following in your
reflection:

Describe and evaluate the strategies employed
by the adults to engage young children in music and comment on their
effectiveness in engaging the children. What did you notice? Have you
incorporated aspects of what you have previously observed in your planning? For
example, you may decide that what you observed previously is not included in
your planning because you feel it is not relevant because it was with a
different age group or you might feel that it was not effective. Alternatively,
you may find that there are aspects of what you observed previously that you
have incorporated and/or adapted in your planning.

Your justification and critical reflection
should make reference of up to 6 readings (minimum of 4). These can be readings
drawn from this subject or other readings you have encountered in the Master of Teaching degree.

Images of related resources (eg. picture
books, children’s artworks) can also be attached to this assignment.

ASSESSMENT:
Your Music Arts
Portfolio will be assessed using the following criteria:
·
Articulates insights and learning into arts
practices, processes, and environment design (25%)
·
Describes and reflects critically on effective
strategies to engage and guide young children in the arts (15%)
·
