Calloway Picture Essay Chapter 1 pages 57-62 questions 1 & 2

“Students of Indian history must also consider sources other than the written word, sources they are not accustomed to “reading,” and which they are often ill equipped to understand. Native American pictographs, winter counts, ledger art, and oral traditions that rely on stories and recounted to an audience may strike us as strange, lack in “hard evidence,” or “inaccessible.” As with any other historical sources, including written documents, we need to learn how to “read” these texts, to understand their purposes and conventions, and to interpret them. Archaeologists working in the Southwest have found that Native teachings and oral traditions can help them to understand the hard physical evidence they recover from the earth, and that so-called myth and science can be complementary rather than competing sources of knowledge.” First Peoples, Introduction.
Please choose any ONE of the “Picture Essay” portions from either Chapter 1, Chapter 2, or Chapter 3. Answer two of the “Questions for Consideration” that follow the essay you have chosen. Each answer should be 750-1000 words in length.
to make things easier i have chosen chapter one from “First Peoples A Documentary Survey Of American Indain History” pages 57-62 with the two questions being on page 62.

Ethics and Professionalism

Unit outcomes addressed in this assignment:
Analyze ethics and professionalism related to contemporary issues in health science.
Using the Ethics and Public Health Model Curriculum found in Course Documents, read Modules 1-4. Then, agree on an ethics issue from one of the Case Studies in Modules 5-9.
Provide a background description of the ethical issue;
Address how professionalism will be required to address this concern;
Discuss how the legal standards of health care practice come into play (see Module 1, p. 13); and
Describe how interdisciplinary collaboration can be achieved through leadership and community stewardship to address this ethical issue (see Module 4, p. 103).

The U.S. Health Care Presentation: Part 1 Assignment

1. title slide (see specifics below). In the speaker’s notes of this slide, include your introductory information, which will include your degree plan and any health care experience you have had or share your qualifications related to the information you are presenting. If you have no health care experience, you can be creative with professional experience.

2. overview slide that describes the required components to be covered within the presentation. Add bulleted points for each of the topics being covered. Briefly describe each bulleted point in the speaker’s notes.

3. Content: The remaining slides will address the content of the presentation and the references.
Choose one revolutionary factor from each of the centuries (17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st) found in your textbook and time line. Describe each revolutionary factor. Discuss how the revolutionary factors changed the health care system. Refer to the time line simulation Global Perspectives: Shifts in Science and Medicine That Changed Healthcare (Links to an external site.) reviewed in Week 1. Chapter 2 in your textbook discusses the evolution of our health care system and is a good resource for this part of the presentation as well.
Identify at least one major development from each of the following perspectives: financial, legal, ethical, regulatory, and social (e.g., consumer demand). Discuss how each development transformed the system into what it is For more perspective, you may want to review the time line simulation Global Perspectives: Shifts in Science and Medicine That Changed Healthcare (Links to an external site.).
Choose three different stakeholders that have affected the health care system (e.g., health care professionals [physicians, nurses, etc.], clients [patients], health insurance plans [Blue Cross Blue Shield, managed care organizations (MCOs), etc.], federal or state governments, health care professional organizations [American Medical Association (AMA), American Nurses Association (ANA), etc.] and health care accreditation agencies [Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), The Joint Commission, National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), etc.]). Evaluate each stakeholder’s effect on the health care system by discussing their purpose and impact. Include examples of both positive and negative impacts made by your chosen stakeholders (e.g., a negative contribution is when a patient uses the emergency room for nonurgent care).

Additional considerations:
Must use at least two scholarly or credible sources (a least one should be from the University of Arizona Global Campus Library). The Scholarly, Peer-Reviewed, and Other Credible Sources (Links to an external site.) table offers additional guidance on appropriate source types. If you have questions about whether a specific source is appropriate for this assignment, please contact your instructor.

Review Capstone Examples

Review the problem statement on Page 14.
Use the appropriate EdD doctoral Capstone Rubric and checklist (found in the Learning Resources) to analyze the quality of the dissertation’s problem statement.

To complete:
Explain whether you think this draft meets checklist and Rubric standards.
Justify for your evaluation.
Use APA style with citations.

Refining the Problem Statement
In Week 1, you began your search for a problem statement, the first task in building a doctoral capstone. This is not a process that happens quickly; it can take many months. Typically, a student continues to refine the problem statement until the proposal is approved, well into the capstone process.
Though we often expect goals in life to occur in a linear sequence, this often does not occur and it does not occur in research, which is a cyclical process.
Consider that the process involves searching the literature for information about a preliminary problem, finding information, using that information to refine the problem, and then returning to a specific selection of the literature. While there is not a way to shorten the process, it can be a joy if you maintain passion for your topic.
Notes on Readings
Over many years as a student, you have likely spent much time reading. Reading for your capstone research, however, is a different type of reading. It is not like reading a newspaper or a novel. Single provides a model for interactive reading and note taking.
In the Butin reading, he provides guidance for reviewing literature that can help you in refining your problem statement. Butin offers very practical advice. Note in particular the hints section!
Learning Objectives

Conduct an interview with 1) a current teacher OR 2) a current school administrator.

A. Conduct an interview with 1) a current teacher OR 2) a current school administrator. Discuss the subject’s experiences with assessment. You may find it useful to record the interview.
A few questions to consider in your interview:
How do they use assessment in their classroom, school, or district?
What kinds of assessments do they use? How do they go about creating them?
How does assessment inform instruction and other aspects of school programming?
What do they find useful/not useful about teacher-created and standardized assessment?
How does the current culture of accountability affect them personally? Why?

B. Conduct an interview with any student, preferably K-12, but a vocational, college or graduate student would be fine as well. Discuss the subject’s experiences with assessment. You may find it useful to record the interview.
A few questions to consider in your interview (if interviewing a younger student, be sure to use developmentally appropriate language):
When you think about assessment, what comes to mind?
What kinds of assessments do you like? Dislike? Why?
What makes assessments fair or unfair?
Why is assessment necessary?

Submit a 4-6 page (double spaced) paper in which you use the course readings to analyze both of your interviewees’ experiences with assessment. Give a short explanation of each person’s experiences to frame your discussion. What did you learn from each person? Did it make you think about anything in particular that we have discussed in class thus far? How do the interviewees’ experiences reflect what you know about good assessment, the purposes of assessment, etc., as indicated in the readings, lecture notes, and through class discussion. Be sure to support your analyses with ideas from the readings, including both the text and other articles assigned in class. Use proper APA form for your citations.
