Selective Abortion of Down Syndrome Fetus

Read this Mayo Clinic article on diagnosis and
treatment options for D.S. pregnancies. Ten (10)
weeks into her pregnancy and 2 weeks after her
husband unexpectedly died, Mary’s fetus is
diagnosed with Down Syndrome. She and her late
husband had tried to become pregnant for years
before finally conceiving. She now wants an
abortion.
Is it morally permissible for Mary to abort a fetus because she has Down
Syndrome? Why? Why not?
Regardless of the position you take, you must justify it by reference to Judith Jarvis
Thomson and either Pope John Paul II or Mary Anne Warren. Rather than simply
quoting or restating the philosopher, explain and defend the chosen argument in your
own words, apply it to the case study above, and connect it logically to the moral
theories, principles, and concepts we’ve read and discussed in class, paying especially
close attention to those used by individual philosophers. Write as if persuading a nonexpert (e.g. define, explain, clarify). Show understanding of the complex moral issue,
(possible) conflicting duties, and how you reconcile them.

Statistics Analysis

In preparation for writing your report to senior management next week, conduct the following descriptive statistics analyses with Microsoft® Excel®. Answer the questions below in your Microsoft® Excel® sheet or in a separate Microsoft® Word document:
Insert a new column in the database that corresponds to “Annual Sales.” Annual Sales is the result of multiplying a restaurant’s “SqFt.” by “Sales/SqFt.”
Calculate the mean, standard deviation, skew, 5-number summary, and interquartile range (IQR) for each of the variables.
Create a box-plot for the “Annual Sales” variable. Does it look symmetric? Would you prefer the IQR instead of the standard deviation to describe this variable’s dispersion? Why?
Create a histogram for the “Sales/SqFt” variable. Is the distribution symmetric? If not, what is the skew? Are there any outliers? If so, which one(s)? What is the “SqFt” area of the outlier(s)? Is the outlier(s) smaller or larger than the average restaurant in the database? What can you conclude from this observation?
What measure of central tendency is more appropriate to describe “Sales/SqFt”? Why?

Assignment Content
Your team has been humming along for a little over a week now. The conflicts that appeared last week seem to have subsided. However, your supervisor has just informed you that the deadline for completing your team’s goal has been moved up by two weeks. You now have less time to complete the same amount of work. Your supervisor has asked for a short summary on your plan for achieving the goal within your shortened timeline.

Write a 350- to 525-word summary on how you will manage the team’s resources in the face of these new timelines. Answer the following questions in your summary:
How many people are on your team? What are their roles? What are their skill sets? How can these be rearranged to meet the new requirements?
Are there enough human resources to complete the project two weeks earlier? If not, how can you increase the team’s capacity?
Are there aspects of the project that can be condensed or skipped? What are the implications of skipping or condensing tasks?
Are there costs to be considered with these changes?
How can you leverage what you’ve learned about solving problems in teams to meet the new project requirements?
How do you intend to communicate the new requirements to the team in order to gain their buy-in?

Submit your assignment.

Annotated Bibliography: Essay Research

Now that we have finished reading and discussing strategies for writing a proposal and research for an annotated bibliography, you need to use the skills you have learned to conduct research for your essay 3 topic, review and evaluate those sources, and put the information together in the Annotated Bibliography. Be sure to:
use reliable sources (no wikis) to support your proposal ideas.
use the resources provided to help you format according to MLA guidelines.
reread the assignment instructions for Step 1: Annotated Bibliography while revising and editing.

The Annotated Bibliography Assignment
The annotated bibliography is the research component of your proposal essay. It includes citation information (Works Cited Entries), a summary, an evaluation, and a reflection for each of the sources used for researching a topic. For this assignment, you will need to create an annotated bibliography that consists of three (3) sources. Each source should support the topic you will be writing about in your proposal essay. For each of the sources you select for this assignment, you should have four parts: source citation information, a summary of the source, an evaluation of the source, and a reflection for a total of nine (9) paragraphs. Each section is explained in detail below:
Source Citation: This is the source information in MLA format.
Summary Paragraph: What are the main arguments? What is the point of this book or article? If someone asked what this article/book is about, what would you say?
Evaluation/Assessment Paragraph: Is it a useful source? Is the information reliable? What is the goal of this source? Check it with your CRAP Test.
Reflection Paragraph: Was this source helpful to you? How does it help you shape your argument? How can you use this source in your paper? Has it changed how you think about your topic?
