Undertake some research on a recent corporate scandal that may have developed over the last year or two in Canada or, in another country. Based on your research, what do you believe were the drivers (root causes) which created that scandal? If you were to provide consulting services to a company (in general terms), what high-level recommendations would you bring forward to a CEO that may create an environment that decreases the likelihood of having companies experience the public and financial humiliation of being exposed to unethical business practices

According to bell hooks how does critical thinking function to help foster personal or societal liberation?

INTRO: In popular American society, education is often considered universally good for you. It is almost never considered bad. Everyone from your parents to important leaders say “Get your education, and you will do well.” However, bell hooks seems to argue for a more political view of education. They view it as a tool that can be used for enslavement or empowerment, a social system that helps builds conformity for the status quo or decolonization and liberation for a new consciousness and a new society. For them, it all comes down to whether educators are teaching critical thinking or not.

Your analysis essay must:
Demonstrate an insightful way of answering the question using the tools of critical thinking we have developed in this unit.
Focus more on analysis with only minimal use of summary (imagine your audience has already read hooks and Duncan-Andrade) and has already engaged in discussion). They need your unique analysis; not a summary of their arguments.
Is relatively free from distracting grammatical and mechanical errors (Links to an external site.). Many students use Grammarly (Links to an external site.) to help them.
Use MLA document design and citation.

macro economics

Let’s talk about inflation (yay!). The video lecture discussed how inflation (rising prices) is not necessarily a bad thing as long as it doesn’t go too high, with the Fed target rate (best rate) being about 2% yearly. In 2020, with changing economic conditions due to the pandemic, the Fed decided to allow inflation to rise slightly above that goal, to 3 or 4%. Below is a link to the video of our Fed Chairman Jerome Powell stating the reasons for changing the policy. Give it a watch, it’s not that long, lol. Don’t worry… you don’t have to understand everything he says, just listen for key words and you should get most of it. To be honest, he speaks very straightforward and avoids those pretentious terms that no one understands, but makes his statements clear to anyone, which I like. Then, read the Inflation Article also attached, which goes over inflation expectations for 2021, and use both to answer the following talking points:
Why is inflation a good thing for the economy? What are some of the net positive effects it has? (Hint: has to do with Investment and Unemployment!)
What was the Fed hoping to accomplish by allowing inflation to rise in 2020? (Hint: The answer lies in the Phillips Curve, sacrificing one goal to achieve another!)
With 2021 things are vastly different! Using the information in the article, what do you see happening to prices for the remainder of the year? Do you think there will be pent up demand, and what will that do to prices/inflation, unemployment, etc.? (Use AD/AS model to explain– you don’t have to draw it, just reference it)
Sum things up in regards to what you see happening in the economy for the 2nd half of 2021, and on into 2022. I’m looking for an educated opinion backed up with facts & data. You don’t have to cite your data, but make sure you aren’t going on feelings, what you want to happen, or anything else that can’t be supported with economics.
As before, your work should be at least a page in length, and a true page! This means if you use MLA formatting where the heading takes up 1/3 of the page, you have to write more to make up for that.

Discussion – Slave Owners

This week we’ve studied the various ways that African Americans lived their lives as free people and also as slaves. We focused exclusively on slave experiences but not at all on owners or the white people who interacted with black slaves. As a society we have come to the conclusion that slavery is wrong, it was immoral, and hateful. I pose to you this moral question: is there such a good thing as a slave owner? If yes, what would define that? If no, explain your ideas as well. Root your arguments in logic, primary sources, and a sincere critique of the question. Please read details Create a new discussion topic. Develop a substantive main thread addressing each part of the prompt in full. Your initial thread should be 2-3 paragraphs in length (200+ words total). Support your points with examples or illustrations from the text.
