LAW: Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi

ESSAY
Parliament
has expressly in statute made the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
mandatory relevant considerations in many public authority decision-making
contexts. This has forced the Waitangi Tribunal, the courts and the government
to attempt to give content to the principles.
Bruce
Harris New Zealand Constitution: An
Analysis in Terms of Principles (Thomson Reuters New Zealand, Wellington,
2018) at 32.

The
so-called ‘principles of the Treaty of Waitangi’ attempt to by-pass the
original treaty. The 1975 Treaty of Waitangi Act, which established the
Waitangi Tribunal, gives the Tribunal the impossible task of reconciling ‘the
Treaty in the Maori language’ (the valid Treaty) and ‘the Treaty in the English
language’ (the fraudulent document) and coming up with a set of ‘principles’
against which to make recommendations.
Margaret
Mutu “‘To honour the treaty, we must first settle colonisation’ (Moana Jackson
2015): the long road from colonial devastation to balance, peace and harmony”
(2019) 49 Journal of the Royal Society of New Zealand 4 at 10.

The
point is simply that Treaty principles can take us only so far on our journey
towards finding an appropriate constitutional place for the Treaty. The
development and application of Treaty principles is an important and necessary
step on that journey but if New Zealanders want to have a genuine discussion
about the constitutional place of the Treaty, that discussion needs to proceed
on a different set of premises.
Carwyn
Jones “Tāwhaki And Te Tiriti: A Principled Approach To The Constitutional
Future Of The Treaty Of Waitangi” (2013) 25 New Zealand Universities Law Review
703 at 704.

Task
Your assignment task
is to write an essay which critiques
the now longstanding statutory practice of referring to and incorporating the ‘principles of the Treaty of Waitangi’
rather than simply ‘the Treaty of Waitangi’ or ‘Te Tiriti o Waitangi’.
In your essay, you
must specifically discuss:
Reasons why successive governments, through
Parliament, have chosen to adopt a ‘principles’ approach rather than
referring simply to ‘the Treaty of Waitangi’ or ‘Te Tiriti o Waitangi’;
Whether you consider a
‘principles’ approach is appropriate. In this part of your essay, you should discuss
relevant commentary which is both supportive of and opposed to this
approach, and explain your preferred position;
Assignment submission
The
maximum length of your essay is 1500
words including footnotes. Marks will be allocated for structure, analysis,
clarity and logic. The New Zealand Law Style Guide should be adhered to.

annotated bibliography for: rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatta) BIOL80

Assignment 1: The Annotated Bibliography
Objective: Assess sources for your research for your final presentation (for credibility, reliability, and relevance) and list references in proper APA reference list format. That means the sources you use for this assignment should be directly related to the species that you chose in the Week 1 Discussion of the class. Remember, the organism you selected in Week 1, is the organism you will research for the associated assignments in the course.
Assignment Instructions: The Research Project/Presentation for this class is divided into three major Assignments, 1) annotated bibliography, 2) outline, and 3) final presentation. The first part is the annotated bibliography. An annotation is a summary and evaluation, and your annotated bibliography will include a summary and evaluation of some of the sources (or references) you will use for your presentation.
To prepare for this assignment, I recommend that you do the following:
Read these directions carefully.
Review the sample annotated bibliography provided to you below.
Read the BIOL180 – Annotated Bibliography Grading Criteria below. The grading criteria is a detailed evaluation that I will use to assess your performance. It will also help you understand what is expected of you as you prepare your assignment.
Use your own words (paraphrase). For help with paraphrasing, please review the ‘Quoting and Paraphrasing’ help in the Trefry Library Writing@APUS Center.
Note that your Turinitin report similarity score should be under 20% (not including references) and free of paraphrasing issues. Review the color-flagged text on your report, fix any issues, and resubmit again before the deadline.
Note that less than 10% of your work should contain direct quotes.
Message me with any questions!
The reason the annotated bibliography is included as part of the research project is that writing an annotated bibliography is important in that it provides excellent preparation for the final presentation. One of the issues regarding any type of research, especially in biology, is the credibility of the sources used, particularly those obtained from various websites. By forcing you to evaluate each of your potential sources carefully, the annotated bibliography helps you determine if, in fact, the source you chose is credible and helps you determine how relevant it is to your topic and understand the topic better, which will help you develop your presentation.
For this project, you will assess three sources to include:
1) a complete citation (in reference list format) for each source,
2) a summary of each source, and
3) an evaluation of each source.
Three sources are required for this assignment (i.e., you are to write an annotation for each source). However, you must use five or more sources in your final presentation.
Use this TEMPLATE to summarize and evaluate each of your three sources. <------ Click to download the required template and fill in your answers. Citation: Written in APA reference list format. For more help with formatting, see the APA handout. Summary: What is the purpose of the source, review article, original research? What topics are covered? This section is generally 4-6 sentences that summarize the author's main point. For more help, see this link on paraphrasing sources. Evaluation: After summarizing the article (or research paper or book), it is necessary to evaluate it and state where you found it – its source (e.g., journal, website, etc.). Briefly answer the following questions in 4-6 sentences: What is the format or type of source (e.g., peer-reviewed journal paper, website, book)? How reliable is the information in the article, and how credible is the source (e.g., the website's sponsoring organization, journal, or book publisher) and the author(s)? For more help, see this handout on evaluating resources.

Learning Theory Assignment

LEARNING THEORY ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
OVERVIEW-Everyone operates with a theory of what makes the best learning environment and how people grow and develop. The problem is that most education professionals’
theories are neither well-informed nor clearly articulated. This assignment will allow you to
create a customized learning theory for a specific student. You will use theoretical perspectives to articulate your theory of the most effective teaching strategies and learning environment for this student. You will support your theory with a Christian perspective.

INSTRUCTIONS
Review the following scenario:
Keven is a sixth-grade student who has attended three schools in the past two years.
His mother is in the military and is currently deployed overseas. Keven lives at home with his father and two younger sisters. Keven is a good reader and typically earns Bs and Cs in all subjects except for math. Keven is currently failing his math class, and he failed math when he was in fifth grade. Keven’s math teacher, Ms. Thomas, describes his classroom behavior as unmotivated, careless, and frequently off-task. Ms. Thomas has tried to encourage Keven by offering incentives for improved classroom participation, but Keven declined to participate in the incentive program. Ms. Thomas held a conference with Keven and his father to discuss Keven’s classroom behavior, but Keven’s father seemed tired and distracted. He said that math has always been a challenge for Keven. Outside of school, Keven enjoys karate, skateboarding, and playing computer games. He attends church with his family and seems to enjoy the Sunday School program. Ms. Thomas is concerned about Keven’s ability to pass the state standardized math test that will be administered in approximately three months. For this assignment, you will write a 2,500-word paper (minimum) that presents a customized
learning theory for Keven. The paper should include principles of the developmental learning theories (i.e., Piaget, Kohlberg, Vygotsky, Erickson, Bandura, etc.) studied in this course, as
they relate to Keven’s unique educational needs. The paper must include an introduction,
conclusion, and the following components:
1) Description of an effective teacher for Keven,
including
a. Character development
b. Engaging with students who have diverse learning needs
c. Building self-efficacy
d. Developing relationships

2) Description of an effective learning environment for Keven, including-
a. Direct instruction
b. Technology
d. Behavior management

3) Biblical basis for your learning theory, includinga. Specific scriptures referenced by
chapter and verse (bible)
The paper must include citations from at least 4 scholarly sources, in addition to both course textbooks (Slavin and Gutek). All sources must be published within the past 5 years.
Your Final Paper must follow current APA format.

Quality improvement literature review

Quality Improvement Literature Review
Emergency medical services (EMS), as the younger health profession, has struggled to embrace a research-focused approach to evidence-based medicine. Most of the research is performed in a retrospective review of existing patient care encounters. This limits how much the variables can be mitigated and may limit what information can be included. A literature review becomes a great starting point to allow the EMS researcher to identify what has been done either in the EMS environment specifically or in a related area of allied health where results may be extrapolated and applied.
Conduct a literature review of the existing quality improvement methods or approaches used for health care and/or public safety. Your analysis of this subject should address the following key areas:
ways in which the types of quality improvement programs are represented in the literature (applicable to all fields or limited to specific ones),
characteristics of quality improvement programs, and
how to apply findings in your organization or an organization you hope to work for in the future.
Your literature review must be at least two pages in length. The attached literature review example from the Success Center has some great tips if you are not familiar with writing a literature review. While the example shows a title page, keep in mind that you do not need a title page for this assignment. You should include at least four academically credible or peer-reviewed sources for references, one of which should be from the CSU Online Library. An academically credible source for this topic would be an industry-related website or an article in a peer-reviewed or industry specific journal.
Adhere to APA Style when creating citations and references for this assignment. APA formatting, however, is not necessary. Do not use any direct quotes in your literature review. Please review the grading rubric prior to beginning the assignment.
