oberfefell vs hodges

In week 7, you will submit a critical thinking paper analyzing a Supreme Court case dealing with civil liberties. In 2-3 page paper format, you will answer the questions below.
For your week 5 assignment, in 2-2.5 pages, please provide a draft of the following:
Which amendment from the Bill of Rights does this case relate to and why? (It might be more than one amendment)
What factors led up to the case?
The result of the case? What did the Supreme Court decide in this case?
What effect does this case have on society?
Do you agree with this decision? Why or why not? Do you believe society has been positively or negatively impacted by the Court’s ruling?
Has this case personally affected your rights?
What could have been some alternatives to this decision?

ABCDE plot

Write a short story of 2-3 pages (500-750 words – double spaced) that follows the ABDCE plot model. Now it’s your turn to write fiction. Here is a break-down of that structure one more time:
A: Action. Begin with something happening. Toss your reader right in the middle of a scene.
B: Background. Go into some background as to why that A-for-action took place.
D: Development. Build the story and develop the characters around some kind of conflict. How do the characters try to overcome the conflict?
C: Climax. This is the most exciting part because all the pieces come together, and it leaves at least one of the characters dramatically changed.
E: Ending. Leave no unanswered questions. Tie up the loose ends. Send the reader off with something to think about with a great final line.

Experiment in fiction

Write a 1-2 page (250-500 words – double spaced) experiment in fiction. No holds barred.
That’s right: You’re getting cut loose! The wonderful, wild and woolly world of fiction is yours. Do whatever you want with it.
You can follow some or all of the ABDCE guidelines if you want, but feel free to do any variation you feel like. Go big, go bold. Try something you’ve never tried before. Do something you’ve never seen done before. Do something we’ve never seen done before. Try it!
But—again—cut loose only if you want to. You can also follow the ABDCE structure exactly, if you’ve realized that this model really works for you. In these 2-3 pages, double spaced, after all the videos and readings and discussions, with as many options we have seen and discussed, show what kind of fiction writer you are.

Braided personal essay

Can be on anything but please make it realistic:

Write a 2-3 page (500-750 word – double spaced) “braided” essay.
First, think of three subjects that fit these three categories:
An object of great meaning
A larger picture—social or historical
Your personal story, or memoir
Second, “braid” them together. The way these three subjects are related may be obvious—for example, a camp stove your parents gave you (the object), the history of Michigan State Parks (larger picture), and your memories of camping (personal story). These three subjects may also be ostensibly unrelated—for example, a wristwatch (object), environmental destruction (larger picture), and the summer you slummed it in Chicago (personal story). When the three subjects are not obviously connected, your exciting essay makes the relationships clear.

Dialogue Activity: Hills Like White Elephants

Hemingway once suggested that his purpose in writing a story like “Hills Like White Elephants” is to tell the reader as little as possible directly yet to reveal characters’ motives and their conflict.
Your Task: Write a scene in which one of the following is true:
1. a man and a woman go into a mattress store to buy a bed. The couple can only talk about the bed, but must nonetheless reveal through the conversation the real situation between them.
2. a father and his college- bound son go into a car dealership to buy a car. The two can only talk about the cars, but the conversation must nonetheless reveal the real situation (i.e., the father and his wife are getting divorced because of his infidelity).
3. a mother and her teenage daughter are baking cookies together. The daughter is considering having sex for the first time and wants to talk about the issue with her mother; however, she’s unsure of how to do that. While the two can only talk about baking, the conversation must reveal the real issue at hand.
4. two people (you decide) are going to a location (you decide) to buy something (you decide). While they can only talk about what they are going to buy, the conversation must nonetheless reveal some real issue between them (you decide).
Rules.
· 300-1000 words, written like a scene, with dialogue, interiority, and external details.
· Evoke at least three senses.
· Two or more characters, so they have someone to interact with.
· End the scene with the reader wanting more!

You must set nutritional goals after week 3’s analysis is complete in a 1-2 page reflection (turn this in for 15 points). We will discuss and review the online options available, in class. Week 4 should include: Goals for the semester, areas you want to improve and strategies
Please DO NOT turn in any pictures from your phone unless they have been neatly put into a word document. There should only be one document for me to open for this assignment. If you turn in multiple files, I will only grade the first one and all others will be discarded.
Week 4: Due June 27 before midnight– printed food analysis (includes daily intake, daily totals of nutrients, and week summary percentage charts) and baseline 1-2 page reflection paper based on your initial findings.
Any made up nutritional analysis is fine. It doesnt have to be have to be from personal experience. The 2 page paper is the most crucial part.
