In this assignment, you will propose a quality improvement initiative from your place of employment that could easily be implemented if approved. Assume you are presenting this program to the board for approval of funding. The paper should be written in third person narrative, not first person narrative (the I point of view). (There
have been a few exceptional cases in which first person has been allowed; contact your instructor for approval if
desired)
There is no absolute minimum number of primary or secondary documents required for your research; what
can/should be expected will vary based upon the topic. In general, you should have at least 2 or 3 primary
sources, and about 5 or more secondary sources. While many great sources can be found online, you will
impress your instructor if some of your sources are found in print (books, journals, archival documents, etc.)
The use of Hawaiian diacritical markings is optional. It is acceptable to use them, and acceptable to not use them.

Tom and Jerry are trying to fix up an old car. They find that it is becoming very expensive
to get parts. Tom says that they should just store the car till they save some more money.

Apple Newton 1998 Inspiration
The Apple Newton was a handheld (PDA) personal digital assistant. This PDA was the first electronic device to use the feature handwriting recognition. Apple started developing the software in 1987 with the first shipment of devices releasing August 1993. This handheld device was one of Apple’s first major failures discontinuing February 27, 1998. The Apple Newton primary feature was its touchscreen. The Apple Newton was priced at 699.99 American dollars and included a touch pin stylus. Some of the features included in the Apple Newton were notes, names, dates, calculators, currency converter, and world clock. The Apple Newton focused on the special feature of allowing consumers to handwrite and convert it over into readable text. The stylus also allowed easy use of the other applications on the device. Another focus feature of the Apple Newton was to allow consumers to share and transfer files onto other Mac and Windows devices with Newton installed. Michael Tchao presented the idea to Apple CEO at the time John Sculley. Who later helped get the design of the product underway. The primary issue that leads to the failure of the Apple Newton began with the difficulty in creating small custom parts for the device. This issue was confirmed by Lanents Capps “We were just way ahead of the technology”. Lanets also confirmed that they were having difficulty getting the Apple Newton to function before the release date.
There were also issues with its key feature handwriting recognition and the touch screen feature. After multiple attempts or writing simple phrases, the device continuously showed inaccurate recognition. This leading to the primary downfall of the device. You can’t have a touch screen device that has a defective touch screen, right? Ultimately the product was recalled and discontinued with issues in manufacturing and its primary feature.
Although the device failed to be the first successful PDA touch screen handwriting device. It inspired devices that we use today such as the popular Apple IPad. The Apple IPad today not only recognizes your handwriting but it allows customers to draw, sign, and write. The Apple iPad also kept some of Newton’s original features such as contacts, world clock, and file sharing. The Apple iPad is now in its fifth generation and has successfully sold over 12.7 million units beating the 300,000 Apple Newton units.
