Religion Field Experience Report
1500 words, MLA format.
Needs to include a works cited page.
Must have at least three sources.
Your job is to try and gain some field experience with another religion. You cannot choose Christianity if you are already Christian (for example, you cant just choose to contact a Baptist church if you are Methodist and say youre doing something significantly different.)
Ideally, you will live in a place where you can contact a temple, mosque, etc. of a different religion and request to do an interview, or attend a worship or other gathering as a respectful observer. Then you report on your experiences in your field report. Youll want to identify parts of the experience using different resources to verify that what you experienced was part of that religion and what it was. If an interview or something someone said, you will want to verify that is a main part of the religion, or whether that is their interpretation.
Observe a service or ritual: Ideally you do this in person, but if you cannot find a place to go near you you can either contact me (I know places you could inquire) or you can get on YouTube and find a service or ritual to observe virtually. Then you report on what you found and include material we learned in class in your observations. You’ll be able to see different aspects of what we learned in class as they apply to the service, ritual, etc. If visiting a temple you might also note the decorations, dress of the people there, etc. You are an observer and reporting your findings in the paper.
In any case, whatever religion you choose should not be the religion that you are a part of.

Leadership and Diversity
I want you to identify an actual case where an organization/leader has experienced difficulties due to how he/she/they have handled issues related to diversity (e.g., NFL, FoxNews, etc.). Once you have selected your topic, you will author a 12-15 page case study that contains the following characteristics/components:
Your proposal must have 15-20 sources from relevant academic journals. Each journal article must be from 2005-current, and each source must be cited appropriately (using APA, 6th ed.) within the text and within the references. You will also need to incorporate additional citations from the popular media regarding the case you choose.
Each paper should begin with an overview of the issue at hand. What happened? How did the leader/organization inappropriately handle issues of diversity? What did they do? 4-5 pages.
Each paper should then provide a clear, detailed, and original recommendation, based in the class readings and outside academic journal articles, regarding how you would have lead that organization differently in order to avoid the mismanagement of diversity described in the first part of your paper. 8-10 pages.
villains
Similar to what you have done in paper 1, you will address the concept of the heroic journey; however, you will do so from the perspective of the villain. For the elements of the hero’s journey that are positive, the villain they should be negative (e.g. the ultimate boon for the hero is usually receiving something of value; for the villain, it may be losing something of value). Conversely, elements that are negative for the hero may be positive for the villain. Address Charmant from “Uncharming” and the unnamed villain in “Heart’s Desire” in this way. Include your description of the ultimate villain and address whether these villains meet that standard as well. Please use quotes to support your points and make sure your introduction has a thesis that becomes your focal point in this 1000-1200 word essay.
You do NOT need to use every example of a villain on the document. Please only use the sources I have provided
I Will include the prompt from essay one right here: Joseph Campbell presents his theory of The Hero’s Journey (see notes on Tropes file). In both “Day One” and “The Castle That Jack Built” we see two different heroes on their journeys. While there are many similarities, there are even more differences as well. Discuss in a 1000-1200 word essay Waldo’s and Jack’s journey, whether it follows Campbell’s path, whether there are elements of the characters’ journeys that discount them as heroes, what type of hero they are, whether they successfully fulfill their heroic role and complete their journey (these are more guidelines than a checklist of what to discuss in the paper). Remember not every hero encounters all 12 stages of the journey.
