Additional Help/Writing Instructions for a Sociological Movie Review

– Identify sociological themes in the movie. Ask yourself in what ways the movie reflects the events and social reality of its time and in what ways it distorts them. Ask if the movie reflects on universal human concerns and problems and, if so, how. Ask how well the movie fits into sociological ideas and research (Links to an external site.), or if it contradicts them. Decide what it has to say, if anything, on the relationship between the individual, his society, and the flow of history. Jot down some notes.
– Select observations that are surprising or startling. A sociological movie review that makes unexpected observations will be much more interesting than one that focuses on obvious things.
– Develop a sociological argument. State what you believe the movie has to say sociologically, using evidence from the movie. Include events from the plot, descriptions of important scenes, and direct quotes from character dialogue to make your point. Don’t summarize the whole movie; rather, focus on the parts of it that are most important to your argument.
– Write a conclusion, restating your main point and showing how it relates to a broader sociological perspective. You may wish to reflect on the movie’s continued relevance to current events, for example or, if it is no longer relevant to our culture, discuss what has changed.
– Write an introduction. The introduction should provide a hook to bring the reader in and address the main point of the essay. Start by asking a question, discussing an important event in history, sharing a quote from the movie, or using another technique to get the reader to think about what issue your essay is addressing. Then, narrow down your introduction in a few sentences until you present your thesis: the main point your essay is making.

For your “Setlist with Annotations” component of your Final Project, you will submit a proposed list of 10 songs that you will cover in your essay. Each song listed should be accompanied by a 1-sentence annotation that describes why you chose that song for the setlist. You should order your setlist in the order that you plan to follow for your essay. You can choose to organize your order chronologically, geographically, or thematically – it’s up to you!
Please upload your Annotated Setlist as a WORD DOC!
The reason for producing this setlist is that it should encourage you to form a useful outline of the major themes/events/artists that you want to address and weave together in your final essay on a “Hip Hop History” of Latin America.
The assignment is graded out of 30 points, which means that each of your 10 selected songs + each song’s corresponding annotation is worth 3 points.

HERE IS WHAT WE MADE FROM LAST WEEK :

Topic Proposal for Final Essay
The Latin American literature provides the history of the American wars of independence which took place at the beginning of the 19 century. The history describes the process and incorporates songs that brought about different themes. Such themes include identity, resistance and human rights. In my plan of formulating the 10-song playlist, I propose to vividly bring out the theme of identity, identity and human rights. Music and poetry is a powerful art in protests and rallies. This cut across fighting for rights, resisting the colonial acts and rules, and advocating for black lives matters. The songs are so powerful to gather the crown of Protestants in a square and riot enough to air their demands by attracting social media attention (Poetry Foundation, np). The poets and artists have to formulate content that talks the truth about the grievances that need to be heard and also rhetorical postings for manipulating the political powers in America. These songs also raise consciousness, raising truth and strengthening the front’s level Protestants. The songs insist on the elimination of walls and discriminative practices. In contrast, other songs present the idea of making peace with the colonial rulers, but in the end, every movement from the gatherings, the songs will result in collective resistance. Since music is a universal language of communication, it’s applicable in explaining people’s emotions and experiences, in this case, resistance and protests. Some examples of songs include Flores by Danay Suarez about resistance; we’re all American, composed by Emilio and several other artists is a song that shows solidarity with American and black people in other parts of the world to unite and fight (Alex and Szoenyi, np). The song we are Mexico was composed by Becky G after President Donald trump spoke negatively against Mexican immigrants, therefore a long of identity.
