Literature Review: (4-7 pages, including 8-10 high quality, peer-reviewed sources)
Write a complete literature review.
Introduce the reader to your topic and a succinct overview of what they will read in the literature review. This also includes a brief overview of the literature. The body of the literature review develops an understanding and insight about previous research and trends in the topic area related to your research question. Aim to corroborate research-based evidence by more than one author. The literature review is not an itemized summary of the research you collected. The literature review is typically thematically organized based on your research question and purpose.
Conclude by reminding the reader of the relevance of this topic and the justification for conducting the study you are proposing.
Method: (3-5 pages, depending on the complexity of the design). The method section should include a description of step-by-step procedures you would use to gather your data. It must be detailed enough for another researcher to replicate your study. This section should include:
Overview: a justification for the type of study you are doing (quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods approach).
Population and Sampling: Describe the participants. Discuss target population, research setting, and sampling methods for the sample population. Also include reference to human subjects’ protection issues, based on the work you completed in week 2.
Data Collection: In this section, you will describe the process you will use to collect your data (e.g., survey, interview, focus group, pre-test/post-test, etc.) If you are doing a quantitative or quasi-experimental study, be sure to identify your variables. Also in this section, make sure to include a copy of your interview questions, survey (5+ questions), observation plan, documents to be reviewed, and any other instruments as applicable. Include reference to potential validity and reliability issues. The data collection instrument should be embedded directly in this section (and may be single-spaced, which differs from the uniform double-spacing in the University College Style Requirements). Note that generally, in full research articles, these appear in appendices.
Data Analysis: (>1 page) Describe some basic analysis approaches that you will use to draw conclusions from the data (e.g., presenting descriptive statistics, identifying codes and themes from interviews, aggregating survey results, etc.).
Anticipated Results: (~1 page) Include a general description of the anticipated results if the study were to be implemented, linking back to the initial research question. There is no need to create either quantitative or qualitative data for this purpose, although you are welcome to do so if your study lends itself to it. It is sufficient to discuss the anticipated results and their implications at a general level. This section should also outline limitations to the study (e.g., generalizability, sampling bias, etc.), potential users of the information, and implications for future research.

Resilience Story Analysis
A 1500-word, double-spaced, multimodal essay that analyzes a film as a resilience story.
Over the span of the course thus far, we have seen that resilience can be understood and depicted in many ways. Individuals and communities are capable of bouncing back (or bouncing forward!) from various kinds of impacts. And whether it is psychical or psychological violence, systems of oppression, or environmental disasters, Hollywood loves to tell stories of resilience wherein people and communities withstand, recover from, and transcend disruptions and disasters.
Your assignment is to perform a close reading of a film as you make an argument that it is a resilience story. Who or what is resilient in this movie? What makes them resilient? What do they bounce back from? When and how do they build resilience? What kind/s of resilience is/are depicted in the film?
You might even want to apply some rhetorical analysis to this resilience story. Who is the creator of this resilience story and why are they telling it? How does the film engage with the cultural/historical context in which it was first released or presently viewed? Do the genre and medium effect the way resilience is depicted and how the message of the film is conveyed?
Use at least 3 secondary sources, including no less than 1 piece of resilience scholarship, to contextualize your analysis of the film. The secondary objective of this essay is to introduce your audience to the concept of resilience, so be thorough and clear in explaining how the film is a resilience story while also engaging with the nuances of this particular discourse.
