What role did this individual play in impacting events and how did he impact this time period?

The Annotated Bibliography assignment will take a look at Nelson Mandela and apartheid
Before you begin your research, review information on your individual by looking through “Research Starters”. This type of source is general information about your topic that will help you to learn more about them. Generally, these sources are reference materials and cannot be used in an academic assignment. The information can help you to refine your research question and narrow your subtopic.

When you complete this assignment keep in mind that you are expected to research in the library. You should NOT be Googling this topic and providing me with the information learned from an encyclopedia or History.com. I want to see what you learned about Nelson Mandela but I also want to see that you researched in a library!

Here are the questions that should be answered in your bibliography:

a. What role did this individual play in impacting events and how did he impact this time period?

b. How did his role impact individuals and groups that lived during this time period? 2.

Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela: Nelson Mandela fought against apartheid in South Africa. Although the minority of citizens were white, they would gain political power and enact a series of racist segregation. Despite being imprisoned for a total of 27 years, he would lead a successful campaign against this horrible practice of racism that existed in South Africa from 1948-1994. Mandla would eventually be successful and would serve as the first president of South Africa.
The second Unit Assignment asks that you complete an Annotated Bibliography on Nelson Mandela and apartheid. After you have reviewed information on Mandela you will complete library research and prepare an Annotated Bibliography formatted in APA Writing Style.

1. Preliminary Research: Although you MUST NOT use Wikipedia in your assignment, you can review your topic in here looking for basic information and key search terms to use in the library. After you have done some research, decide on a focus for Mandela. Be sure to read more about this in the topic choice module section.

2. Research in the Library

a. Find Two Scholarly Journal articles from the library using either JSTOR or EBSCO. These journals, also known as “Peer-Reviewed” articles should be no more than 10 years old. Your source should include the library citation.

b. Find Two Primary Sources using the primary source databases in the Valencia library or the Fordham University internet site. Remember that a primary source is from the time of the event. Please find at least one historical newspaper article from the time of the event. The library includes the NY Times Historical database.

Discuss a different episode of care for each learning outcome or use the same episode of care for all the 3 module learning outcomes.

Discuss a different episode of care for each learning outcome or use the same episode of care for all the 3 module learning outcomes. Discuss the legislation, regulatory
and statutory guidance which inform your professional practice and explore
how this underpins your practice.
The
episode of care should discuss an aspect of practice e.g., informed consent,
informed consent and mental capacity, equality and diversity, confidentiality
and or safeguarding. Your discussion might highlight care which was
implemented to prevent e.g., a breach of confidentiality or safeguarding
concern. Please do not discuss a case if it has resulted in a clinical
incident as this has the potential to breach confidentiality. Ensure that you
do not include the name of parties involved or cite the NHS Trust or care
provider. Include relevant Acts of Parliament e.g., the Mental Capacity Act
(2005), Equality Act (2010), The Care Act (2014), guidance relating to the
gaining of informed consent, Confidentiality legislations and / or health
care guidance which are relevant to your chosen episode of care scenario.

Learning Outcome 2
‘Demonstrate an
understanding of ethical frameworks and their application to decision making
in health and social care’
For
this section, you will link your chosen scenario to the 4 ethical principles:
autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice. You should
provide definitions of each and then apply the ethical principles to your
chosen episode of care scenario.
For
example, if your scenario refers to an occasion when an individual was
providing an informed consent, then you could consider whether the individual
was autonomous, what factors may have affected their ability to act
autonomously eg information giving and understanding of information, was the
intervention in their best interests and what there a risk of potential harm?

Similarly,
you may consider a scenario which considers the importance of maintaining a
person’s right to confidentiality. How does this respect autonomous decision
making? Was the decision in their best interests and why? What are the risks
of harm if confidentiality is not upheld?

Learning Outcome 3
‘Demonstrate an
appreciation of the demands and complexities of professional practice with
respect to the spheres of accountability and responsibility’

Within this learning
outcome, you should consider the professional guidance within The Code (NMC,
2018) and your responsibilities as a pre-registration nursing student as it
relates to a scenario from your practice. Review ‘The Code’ and look at
how the guidance / statements within ‘The Code’ informs your professional
practice and decision making. Consider what it means to be a responsible and
accountable practitioner, and your responsibilities in providing safe and
effective care.

Additional
guidance:
1. Whilst it is not normally acceptable
practice to use sub-headings in an academic essay, you should start each
discussion using the learning outcome as the sub-heading. This will help you
keep focussed on each of the learning outcomes.
2. You are not required to include an
introduction or a conclusion. Each learning outcome should be 1,000 words.
You may wish to provide a brief introduction to the focus of your discussion
within each of the 3 sections and a short concluding statement.
3. If you wish, you can provide a more
detailed description of the scenario(s) within an appendix at the end of your
work. The wordage will not be included in the 3,000-word limit
4. If you wish to use a reflective model
use one of the ones that encourage a precise reflective process such as

What are the foundational elements of the system, the beliefs, the practices, the treatments, etc.?

This week you will be evaluating one of the two medical systems discussed this week. Both Chinese Medicine and Naturopathic medicine are considered whole body medical systems. For your discussion this week you will choose one of the two systems and write a complete overview of it. What makes the system you chose unique? What are the foundational elements of the system, the beliefs, the practices, the treatments, etc.? After you have written an overview, discuss how you have experienced some of the practices from either Chinese Medicine or Naturopathic Medicine in our “traditional medical” system here in the United States. Do your personal perspectives support the use of other medical systems as complementary or not? Why?
