Nutritional analysis and assessment
Imagine that you are a clinical nutrition assistant working at a local hospital under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian (RD). Overnight, a 75-year-old male patient was admitted to the hospital and needs to be fully assessed for any nutritional risks (in accordance with hospital/medical nutrition care laws). The hospital’s initial nutritional screening protocol identified that the patient may be at nutrition risk, due to a “high risk admitting diagnosis.” The admitting physician suspects that the patient has suffered a MI (heart attack); however, the full cardiac consult results are not yet showing in the computer. Furthermore, the patient has recently moved here to the U.S. from a foreign country within the past year so that his daughter can help care for him due to his declining health. The entire family speaks very little English. The patient’s cultural background is significant because the culture may not place much influence on western-style healthcare practices. The patient’s expression of his culture needs to be examined further. The nurse’s notes reveal that the daughter does not know how much her father weighs, but she suspects that he has gained weight since her mother passed away a year ago.
Your assignment from the supervising RD is to examine the patient’s complete cultural, social, medical, and nutritional background so that the next steps of the Nutrition Care Process can be instituted. Upon your initial investigation within the hospital’s electronic medical records system, you notice that there is no height or weight listed for the patient. The diet order reads: NPO (nothing by mouth) and they are awaiting more lab results for various tests related to hydration and kidney function. His cardiac enzyme lab work indicates that he suffered a Non-ST-Elevated Myocardial Infarction (NSTEMI). The MD notes confirm a heart attack diagnosis and the MD also noted that the patient “appears to be morbidly obese.” His medications include: a blood pressure medication, a diuretic, and a cholesterol-lowering drug.
1.The patient and daughter are unaware of the patient’s current height and weight. His hospital bed unfortunately does not have a built-in weight scale. The patient is unable to stand upright due to his medical condition. Therefore, list and describe one alternative way to estimate height (stature) and one alternative way to estimate a person’s weight. You may use the e-books, key terms, and internet resources provided or you may research this further to find additional ways to measure height and weight.
2.Based on your nutritional assessment and evaluation Do you feel that the patient will comply with the MD suggesting a strict very low calorie (1000–1200 calories), low fat, low cholesterol, and low salt diet? How would you address the nutritional needs of the patient while honoring any personal preferences?
3.Choose a specific ethnic/cultural background (Asian, Middle Eastern, Hispanic etc). How can you use your knowledge of the patient’s background to instill motivation and the desire to improve his health by eating a healthy diet? Do you think that he should be placed on the exact 1000–1200 calorie Cardiac restrictions diet that the Physician is recommending? Justify your answer.
Requirements
This Assignment should be at least 2 pages. It should be in APA format and must include at least two references.
Final Case Study Report
Assessment Information
This task
involves a 4000-word report, excluding tables, figures, references and
appendices. This report should look like any professional report you would
expect from a consultancy firm. Please try to make it as neat and professional
(and fancy) as possible.
Starting
with the brief summary of your analysis of the past and current strategy
(completed in Assessment 1), you will present in a report what you recommend
the company do given your analysis.
Your
report should:
1. Briefly
summarize your findings from past and present strategy analysis (completed in
Assessment 1).
2. Provide
innovative and problem-solving recommendations to achieve competitive advantage
in the future.
Assessment
2 presents an opportunity for you to analyse a case and to hone your skills in
analysing and recommending a strategy. Your recommendation should involve at
least two of the following topics:
·
Business-level strategy
·
Corporate-level strategy
·
Acquisition and restructuring strategies
·
International strategy
·
Corporate governance
·
Organisational structure and controls
·
Strategic leadership
Although
you will have sub-sections in your report, these sub-sections must be linked
together so the report is an integrated and compelling analytical argument that
leads to your evaluation and recommendations.
Assessment 1 & 2
Guidelines
For Assessment
items 1 and 2, you will act as a member of a professional consultancy team.
As such you should choose a “real” company as a “case-to-study.” The same
company will be used for both Assessment items 1 and 2. Please choose
carefully, after conducting enough research. The focus of your analysis is on
the analysis of the company’s strategy (for Assessment item 1)
and strategic planning (for Assessment item 2).
How to choose a case to study
We want
to keep this consulting work as real as possible, which means you will not be
able to change your client (a.k.a. case you are studying) after you have
completed your Assessment item 1. Please conduct enough research to complete
both Assessment items 1 and 2.
Here are the rules:
1. Please
email the lecturer your group member details and chosen company for Assessment
1 case study.
2. You
cannot choose a company that another group in your workshop has already chosen.
It will be first come first served. That means, it is better for you to plan
ahead.
3. You
cannot choose a company that has already been analysed in the textbook. Your
lecturer can check this for you if you are not sure.
4. Deadline
to choose a company is by the end of Week 4.
Here are the tips to choosing a company:
1. It makes
sense to choose a publicly listed company since you need to make sure data is
readily available. You will need access to things like annual reports and
financial data as well as media coverage. Sometimes, small and medium
enterprises have little information available on their websites and internet.
You should check the amount of available data before making the final decision.
2. There is
no restriction on ‘company size’ however it makes sense to keep the company to
a manageable level. It is no use trying to analyse the corporate strategy of
Wesfarmers, for example, in six weeks. Bunnings however is probably manageable.
In this sense, your group’s choice will determine whether you are at Business
level or Corporate level strategy. At the other end of the scale is the corner
shop – which clearly, while equally important – is not likely to yield
sufficient data for analysis at the level required by this course.
3. There is
no restriction on the company’s location although, again, it makes sense to try
to choose an Australian firm or an Asia-Pacific firm. You must realise that if
you do choose an international firm the complexity will increase, and it may be
necessary for you to spend more time assessing and explaining political and or
regulatory matters at the expense of strategic choice and realized strategy
matters.
4. Generally,
make it easy for yourselves. It is easier to do the simple perfectly than the
hard imperfectly. At the same time however your interest and passion for a
specific industry / market / firm is more likely to yield a good analysis than
trying to force yourself to investigate a firm that is of no interest to you.

Doctorate of Management Orginizational Development and Change
thought long and hard about pursuing a doctorate degree in the beginning once I finished my masters degree in May 2022 I thought I am done with school I am going to take a break I can finally breathe but in reality school is the only thing that I’ve ever been successful at outside of parenting. I obtain my bachelors in criminal justice human services here at Colorado technical university I’ve been placed on the Dean’s list I’ve also been on honors When I started my bachelors degree I was lost I had no clue what I wanted to do in life I just knew that I wanted to be able to say that I’ve obtained a degree it was the masters that I had to think long and hard about what I wanted to do and why I wanted to do it. I truly believe that anything that’s of God is aligned because everything that is of God is straight there isn’t any friction and attention in any chaos that comes with what you were supposed to do in life. I graduated with my bachelors degree December 21, 2020 and I started my masters degree January 5, 2021. December 21 is my oldest son‘s birthday January 5 is my youngest son‘s birthday I knew at that very moment that I was making the right decision to not take a break after obtaining my bachelors and continue with my masters. I have been in the healthcare industry for eight years I originally pursued the healthcare industry when my youngest son was on his second surgery with ear tubes by the third surgery with my son receiving tubes to release the extra fluid that would sit in the inner ear after the surgery my son was diagnosed with meningitis now in the healthcare world we all know that meningitis is something that can kill you paralyze you remove your hair again or your vision. As a mom with no knowledge of anything else but being a mom you wonder how can you get meningitis with an ear surgery that is when I started pursuing and applying to be a patient service representative just an individual who would work in a call sitter at a nonprofit organization hospital called Sutter Health Palo Alto medical foundation they hired me as a patient service representative where I answered 108 phone calls a day scheduling for eight different departments gastroenterology internal medicine family medicine pediatrics for different locations 12 different doctors 12 different sets of rules. Although I had never been in the healthcare industry I could hear parents frantic just as frantic as I was after that third surgery sharing personal stories engaging in telling them the importance of yearly exams discussing possible developmental delays in children that were the same age as my son and we’re older but just being able to be a mom and a healthcare worker at the same time allowed me to feel as though I was making a difference and doing what it was that God had aligned me to do. The reason that I pursued my masters in healthcare management graduating with a 3.82 is because I originally wanted to be the director of the HIV department at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital here in San Francisco California. After reflecting on the hard work that I put into my masters degree with all of the things that transpired while pursuing my masters my son having Covid being placed on ventilators the murder of their father The day of the funeral I told myself you have 33 days left of school and a lifetime to mourn now isn’t the time to give up now is the time to show the boys that no matter what you pursue your dreams and you keep going. I have decided to pursue my doctorate of management and organizational development and change The reason that I chose this major instead of choosing Dr. rid of management healthcare management and leadership is because I like to imply change in the healthcare industry here at UCSF three of the doctors two of the nurse practitioners and myself have come up with a program called steps as of right now it is just a conversation amongst healthcare workers that have noticed that children with developmental delays cognitive delays educational delays and or any sort of disability there is a 1 to 2 year gap in what a child should receive when transitioning from a regional center of therapies to a school district. My son was diagnosed with dyslexia ADHD and a auditory processing disorder my son started receiving services at Davis Street regional Center in San Leandro California at the age of one he received anger management a daily living specialist which is an individual who came in to teach him about the responsibilities of hygiene tying your shoe flushing the toilet washing your hands buttoning your pants and so much more right now any child that receives services from a regional center in any state should receive those services until they are school-age once they are old enough for a transitional kindergarten and/or kindergarten the school district is supposed to pick up and retest the child and offer services My son stop receiving services at the regional center at the age of four where he was supposed to start receiving services with the school district of Hayward California and he didn’t receive any services for one year the school district then waited another year to offer a testing and by the time they offered the testing there had already been a year or two gap in the services which would have kept him on age-appropriate-based learning. One of my professional goals is to bridge the gap for children and also for the adults for the parents be the spokes person be the mentor be the guide and be aware. Another professional goal I have is to always remain teachable to always seek more information that can be applied into someone’s lifestyle. Another professional goal is to become the director of the steps program. A personal goal for me would be to always set goals when I start this journey for my doctorate degree I will have weekly goals my weekly goals will include engaging with others during a discussion board attending all live chats responding to at least two classmates asking for more instruction and or details if I am unsure and or unclear of how to pursue and start an assignment. I have already decided that I will retire from UCSF which means that I am not looking to leave the company that I am currently working for but I am looking to always make a change for patients and parents and always be able to provide world-class customer service in healthcare and patient care I will use my degree in all departments that I am able to share my knowledge with eventually becoming a director of a department that will allow me to share my knowledge . I have spoken with my children and my family and also my coworkers and mentors about me pursuing my doctorate degree and what it will take as far as time I have already begin to make the adjustments that will be needed. I believe that the doctor of management organizational development and change is something that I am already passionate about I am eager to start the program and pursue my goals here at CTU.

The Latte Factor
In his internationally acclaimed and best-selling book “The Automatic Millionaire”, David Bach shares the true story of an average American couple – he is a low-level manager, she is a beautician – whose joint income never exceeds $55,000 a year; but yet who are somehow manage to own two homes debt-free, put two kids through college, and retire at 55 with more than $1 million in saving. Jim and Sue McIntyre identified early on the power of saving and compounding that saving over a 30-year period. But forfeiting a single latte (coffee) each day would save $35/week, or $1,885 per year. If one was able to yield a 10% annual return, in 40 years, their savings would be $948,611. Could you save like the McIntyres? If not a latte, perhaps giving up a different habit or luxury such as one less purse, one less round of golf, one less massage, or one less energy drink?
Revisit your findings from the Week Two Assignment paper. Given the Social Security projections, and the impact inflation has on your spending-ability; reevaluate your retirement requirements. You can leave the AMOUNT field empty
You can show 0 for your current savings
In the regular deposit … consider what you could save in a MONTH. For example, $20/day would be $600 per month. ENTER 600 into the Regular Deposit Amount
In the number of months… start at 360 (or 30 years)
Assume an annual interest rate of 10%
Leave the income tax rate empty … as you can deal with taxes when you begin to withdraw.

If you followed these instructions, your savings would be in excess of $1,356,000.
Now, revisit and adjust to your own saving goals, current savings, and months to save (i.e., 40 years would be 480 months). Imagine if your employee offered payroll deduction, and would agree to automatically withdraw money into a pre-tax saving account (such as a 401K). Also, imagine that for every dollar you invest, the employer would match your investment. Describe how that benefit would boost your retirement savings.
