What do you think and feel about bullying?

Assignment: Adolescence Interview Discussion
PURPOSE
The purpose of this assignment is to gain insight into adolescent development by interviewing both an adolescent and adult and analyzing their responses to specific questions.
STEP 1
Identify an adolescent and an adult you can interview for this assignment. The adolescent must be between the ages of 13 to 18 years. The adult must be between the ages of 30 to 60 years.
Let your interviewees know that you will record and analyze their responses to questions about bullying, sexual activity, and adolescent social and educational experiences for a course assignment, but that their identity will be kept anonymous and personally identifiable information will not be shared.
Below are the three questions you will be asking them:
What do you think and feel about bullying? What are your experiences with or observations of bullying? Why do you think bullying happens? What could be done to prevent it?
What do you think is an appropriate age for a person to begin sexual activities with a partner? In what contexts or types of relationships is it appropriate, and what types of sexual activities are appropriate? What do you think are the benefits and risks of engaging in sexual activities with a partner?
Do you think it is easier or more difficult for adolescents to “come of age” (that is, to mature into a young adult) now or a generation ago? When it comes to school, is there or more less pressure on students? What about social experiences, such as making friends and participating in social activities with peers and romantic partners?
Make sure that your interviewees consent to you recording and analyzing their responses. In addition, for the adolescent, obtain consent from their parent or guardian. Note that this is not formal “informed consent” since the data will not be used for research purposes or be publicized. However, it is still important that they know and agree to what you will be doing.
STEP 2
Interview your two participants. Conduct these interviews separately and in locations where your participants can feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings openly. Let them know that they are only being asked to share to the extent that they are comfortable. Allow for at least 15 minutes for each interview, so each question can be explored in depth.
Use the form below to record your interviewees’ responses.

Assignment 7 Interview Form.docx
You can record the interview on your phone or other device and then transcribe it afterwards by playing and pausing the recording as needed. Or you can use technology to automatically generate an audio to text transcript. Below is information on how to use technology to generate a transcript using Microsoft software, which you have access to as a WCC student.

STEP 3
Write a paper with the following structure.
Paragraph 1
Introduce your two interviewees and the purpose of the paper, which is to analyze the responses to identify and discuss features of adolescent development.
Paragraph 2
What do the responses reveal about adolescent cognitive development? Compare specific statements made by your adolescent and adult interviewees. Quote these statements and explain how they illustrate differences in cognition between adolescents and adults. Apply specific developmental concepts from the readings, using psychological terminology, and cite the sections from the readings.
Paragraph 3
What do the responses reveal about socioemotional development? Compare specific statements made by your adolescent and adult interviewees. Quote these statements and explain how they illustrate differences in socioemotional development between adolescents and adults. Apply specific developmental concepts from the readings, using psychological terminology, and cite the sections from the readings.
Paragraph 4
Reflect upon this activity by discussing what statements were most surprising to you or impacting on your thinking. Explain why. To learn more, what further questions would you ask these two individuals or other persons in these lifespan stages?
Submit your interview form with the complete transcripts and your paper.
Make sure to carefully proofread your paper and run both a spell check and a grammar check. Your paper should be about 2 pages in length, with 1-inch margins, 12-point font, and double spacing.

Discuss three basic differences between the French and English settlements in North America. Why did France and England compete for control of North America?

Discuss three basic differences between the French and English settlements in North America. Why did France and England compete for control of North America?Thesis statement is made somewhere in the first paragraph.
Begin your thesis statement as “This essay will argue……” or “This essay will describe”…. Or something similar that makes the point of your essay clear.
Minimum of three sources. One is the textbook. One is a primary source. The third is a secondary source located from our library databases such as Academic Search Complete (https://cvcc-vccs.libguides.com/az.php?s=110393 (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.)). A good link for primary sources is: https://sourcebooks.fordham.edu/ (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.) You will cite these sources in a bibliography at the end of your essay.
DO NOT cite internet sources unless the source meets rigorous and specific criteria. You may only cite an internet source if it is an official government or academic site or archive, or a major and reliable newspaper/media source, or as a specific primary source used to argue your thesis. You will lose a letter grade if you cite any general internet sources such as Wikipedia, History.com, or other similar internet history site. More information here: https://www.library.georgetown.edu/tutorials/research-guides/evaluating-internet-content (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.)
Use quotes from proper sources to make your point. For example: According to Pvt. William Smith who fought in the Battle of Gettysburg, “the men charged up Culp’s Hill with great bravery in the face of enemy fire.” Or, According to the 1860 United States Census, there were more than four million enslaved people in the country at the beginning of the Civil War.
Pictures, images, and art/sketches are allowed. Source must be cited.
Use only MLA or Chicago formatting. https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/chicago_manual_17th_edition/cmos_formatting_and_style_guide/general_format.html (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.)
Word count between 600-1200 words (not including the bibliography). Post the actual number of words in the text of the essay at the end of the last paragraph.
Be specific when you make a declarative statement. Avoid empty generalizations. An example of a generalization is, “Many people were affected by the economic depression.” Or, “The weather made things very hard for people.” Always back up your statements with specific events, dates, names, details, and data.
NO “Cut and paste” essays. A cut and paste job is one in which the writer simply copies phrases and text wholesale and pastes it into the essay as their own words. That is plagiarism, even if you cite the source. You will earn a zero mark for such essays.
