Identify five of Deming’s points that you believe apply significantly to Southwest Airlines’ success or shortcomings.

Continuous improvement is a philosophy that must be ingrained into a company’s culture in order to develop an innovative organization. The philosophy of continuous improvement is that “good enough” is not good enough. W. Edwards Deming is considered one of the fathers of the modern quality movement. His 14 points serve as a visual reminder of the critical elements of continuous improvement.

For this discussion, conduct your own research about the culture and successes/failures of Southwest Airlines.

Identify five of Deming’s points that you believe apply significantly to Southwest Airlines’ success or shortcomings. Explain and support each of your five points.
In your discussion responses to your classmates, advocate for your five points vs. their five; or, accept one of their points and explain why you found their point better. Back and forth discussion is strongly encouraged. Develop the clearest possible picture of Southwest’s current state.
Work with your classmates to develop an action plan for Southwest: Based on Deming’s 14 points, how could Southwest overcome barriers the class has identified in the discussion to improve their quality and performance?

Identify one other essential key stakeholder or interest group that your peers did not identify in their initial post.

1-1 Discussion Response Post: Introduction

In the
response posts to at least two peers’ initial posts, choose ones that
identified different public health services from the ones you chose in your
original post and respond to the following:
Compare and contrast the
similarities and differences between the stakeholders and their roles in
the public health services.
Identify one other essential
key stakeholder or interest group that your peers did not identify in
their initial post. Share your perspective on why you consider the
identified stakeholder as an essential stakeholder or interest group.

A.
Communicate with people to enlighten and
instruct them about health, the things that impact it, or how to better it.
The
patients, general society, administration, pharmaceuticals, institutions,
professionals, authorities, multilateral institutions, and scientific sponsors
are all stakeholders in public health communication. The stakeholders alert
large groups of people to a potential health concern, as well as provide
guidance and information on how to avoid certain illnesses and maintain a
healthy lifestyle and well-being through learning. Stakeholders use this
tactic, on a local and global basis, are intended to raise awareness and
provide vital insight into what people can do to protect their health, even if
there is a possible risk (Wilensky
& Teitelbaum, 2019). When dealing with broad, diverse teams, it’s
crucial to realize not everybody communicates in the same language.
B.
To enhance health, communities, and
partnerships must be strengthened, supported, and mobilized.
The
community, society, administration, institutions, professionals, authorities,
aid organizations, and scholarly benefactors are all stakeholders. The job of
the stakeholders is to bring together and promote multi-sector collaborations
and alliances that include health-related sectors (planning, transportation,
housing, education) Fostering and develop authentic, strengths-based
connections with a wide collection of partners who represent the community and
demographic (Wilensky &
Teitelbaum, 2019). Developing public health solutions by connecting
authentically with community residents and groups. Learning from and supporting
existing community collaborations, as well as bringing public health expertise
to the table.

Response post 1 – Maureen Serrano
Research and the enforcement of laws and
regulations are the two public health services that I have selected. Public
health services are in place to guarantee the public’s safety and well-being.
When it comes to public health, research is, of course, a top priority. It is
critical that the research conducted is accurate and right, since it will have
a ripple effect throughout our communities and have the potential to affect the
lives of tens of thousands of individuals. Patients, providers, caregivers, and
healthcare facilities, to name a few, are all stakeholders in this decision. It
is impossible to overestimate the value of health research to society. It has
the potential to provide critical information on illness progression and risk
factors, treatment response or public health actions, competency, care
patterns, and health-care utilization.
Enforcement of laws and regulations of course
impacts patients and healthcare providers, but it also has a huge impact on
local and state governments, healthcare facilities, insurance companies, and
medical billing services. Ensuring the public safety is the main concept of
this service. Regulations and enforcing healthcare laws are necessary to
maintain the healthcare standards that the general public expects and should be
offered. It is important to make sure that healthcare facilities comply and are
committed to following public health policies and that they provide safe care
to all patients and visitors.
Response 2 – Rebecca Esip
Identify two key stakeholders and /
or interest groups with their role (s) in the chosen healthcare service.
Two
essential public health services are the CDC, and School Health. During the
last two years especially both public health entities have been integral to the
response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The CDC has helped to guide states in
their Covid-19 responses, and the school health offices have been able to use
that guidance to craft safety plans which allowed students to return to school
quickly.
CDC: The CDC has experts in identifying healthcare issues and creating
disease prevention programs. They work to identify epidemics and create
responses. Another stakeholder is the local boards of health who can use the
data from the CDC to create local disease interventions and epidemic responses.
According to Teitelbaum, & Wilensky (2019), the CDC also works
internationally to aid in pandemics across the globe.
School Health: The school health programs in public schools are vital in the
health promotion of school-aged children. They manage immunization tracking,
hearing and vision screenings, and a multitude of health education initiatives
for children and families. The key stakeholders for school health professionals
are the students and the parents. There are many opportunities to be a health
advocate for children and to provide family and community outreach during times
such as the Covid-19 pandemic.
