Presentation to Leadership

Prepare 10-12 slides and slide notes that could be presented to the leadership team to explain the goals for an engagement study at CapraTek, the implementation details, and proposed plan to roll it out for all the generations in the workplace. Be sure to read the background for the CapraTek scenario in the interactive learning module for this assessment.
Today’s workplaces include employees from four different generations, and each generation has a different set of expectations of how they want to grow, work, and advance in the organization. While many aspects of individual personality have some impact on this, the bigger impacts tend to come from generational variations.
Millennials and generation Z have different expectations of how the organization and their leaders should engage and support them. The old adage of “It’s your career and you have to run it” is both dated and inaccurate in the modern age. Most of today’s organizations are led by a majority of generation X’ers with some boomers in the leadership or senior roles. In this assessment you are asked to prepare a presentation that looks at employee engagement issues from a generational perspective and what the related resource expenditures would be.
Scenario
The leadership team at CapraTek has agreed that a “pulse” survey would provide much needed information about the specific feelings and concerns from this organization. Ultimately, they will use your presentation of the plan outline to help them decide how to spend the money, time, and resources to conduct an engagement study. CapraTek is an organization that has 360 employees in three research and development divisions across two locations.
CapraTek has had some difficulty in retaining millennial employees at entry and mid-levels in all fields across the organization. The level of satisfaction of the overall boomer workforce is also not as positive as it could be. The HR team has observed that they are not applying for advancement opportunities. This is an area of concern. The HR team doesn’t have any specific data on generation X employees. No survey has been done. They are just starting to think about generation Z employees, as the youngest group is just graduating from college. There also seems to be issues with how work areas in the company’s spaces are organized, which may have some connection to generational preferences. There is a great deal more unknown information than known information because the company does not have an active survey program.
The current perspective among the executive leadership of the organization is that there are no employee engagement issues or concerns. There have been some comments that HR is not sourcing the best possible candidates for hiring and that is having an impact on retention rates.
Your Challenge
As an HR professional at CapraTek, you have been tasked with preparing 10–12 slides that could be presented to the leadership team about employee engagement issues, the goals for the engagement study, and the likely budget and timeframe, as well as how you will select the best strategy to conduct the engagement study for the different generations in your workplace.
Create an effective 10–12 slide presentation deck with detailed presentation notes elaborating on each bullet point that could be presented to a leadership meeting. Your presentation should describe the engagement issues to address at CapraTek, how the engagement research tool will be selected, and the time/budget/plan to implement the engagement research strategy. Include the following in your slide presentation and presentation notes:
Analyze the current employee engagement situation at CapraTek from observations of the different generations.
Re-read the previous related material in the course to make observations of the different generations at CapraTek.
What issues do you see from the employees’ perspective?
What issues do you see from the managers’ perspective?
Define the goals and the purpose of collecting engagement data from employees.
What is the purpose of collecting engagement data from employees?
How will the data collected be used to address the engagement issues identified above?
Analyze the common process in the field for selecting appropriate engagement survey questions and/or selecting the right survey tool.
Estimate the approximate budget, time, and resources needed to implement an engagement research strategy for CapraTek.
360 employees at CapraTek, three divisions, two work sites.
Describe the overview of the implementation plan for engagement research at CapraTek.
An effective PowerPoint presentation for this purpose typically includes:
One title slide, APA formatted.
1–2 introduction slides explaining the employee engagement context at CapraTek, taken from the scenario above and the preceding course material.
1–2 slides identifying the main engagement issues for the different generations.
1–2 slides defining the goals for the engagement study and how the data will be used to address the issues.
1–2 slides analyzing the common process for creating or selecting an engagement research tool.
1–2 slides with approximate budget, time, and resources needed to implement an engagement research strategy.
One conclusion slide with an overview of the implementation plan for the engagement research at CapraTek.
One slide with APA-formatted references.
Presentation notes under each slide to describe the main points of emphasis.

Beth is a 23-year-old Asian American graduate student. She is currently
in treatment with a psychologist for anxiety. She claims that her cognitive
therapy has helped her control her worry and anxiety, but she has noticed that
her symptoms have worsened this year with all of the pressures of school. In
addition to worry, her mind races at night when she tries to sleep, and she
claims it may often take her two to three hours to finally fall asleep. She
describes herself as a “type A” person who is rather “anal” about doing well.
She worries nonstop about grades but also worries nonstop about her health,
money, her parents’ health, and world affairs. She is very insightful about her
condition and agrees the worry is excessive and unwanted. She admits that there
is really no basis for the worry, as she has a full scholarship, she and her
parents are in good health, and she currently has a 3.9 GPA. She claims that
she has always been rather tense, but it didn’t get to the point that she
sought treatment until her senior year in college. She was worried about
getting accepted to grad school and “obsessed” over getting straight A’s. She
sought the help of a psychologist at the university counseling service, was
placed on Paxil, and began therapy. For the most part, her symptoms
disappeared, but she remembers feeling tired during the day.

Remember to answer these
questions from your textbooks and clinical guidelines to create your evidence-based
treatment plan. At all times, explain your answers.
1. Summarize the clinical case.
2. Create a list of the patient’s problems and prioritize
them.
3. Which pharmacological treatment would you
prescribe? Include the rationale for this treatment.
4. Which non-pharmacological treatment would you
prescribe? Include the rationale for this treatment.
5. Include an assessment of treatment’s appropriateness,
cost, effectiveness, safety, and potential for patient adherence.
Your initial post should be at least 500 words, formatted
and cited in current APA style with support from at least 2 academic sources

hardly any grammar or spelling mistakes. I recommend reading your
paper out loud before your submit it and having someone else read it too.
i. 1 mistakes = 0 points off
ii. 2-3 = 5 points off
iii. 4-5 = 10 points off
iv. More than 5 = 15 points off

2. NO outside sources. Use the reading and your own thoughts.
Plagiarism or using outside sources will result in a zero grade
for the assignment.

a. It is important to me that your paper be a demonstration of your own
unique thinking. I am interested in seeing how
you work out the ethical implications of play in your own life.
b. I realize this paper may seem overwhelming. However, I am most interested in a heartfelt attempt NOT perfection.

3. Have a creative title for your paper 2 points
4. Overall, the purpose of your paper is to present an interpretation of
Eugen Fink’s essay “Oasis of Happiness.”

a. For example, consider Fink’s point that “The more one attempts to
reflect on play, the more enigmatic and question
worthy it seems to be become” (p. 26). Following his essay you should
get some ideas as to why this is.
b. Have four clearly labeled parts to your paper:

i. Introduction (10 points ~ one page):
1. Develop a thesis. Your thesis should have roughly to parts:
1. It should answer the question: What does Fink think is the essence of
play?
2. It should also answer the question: How does the essence of play
relate to ethical questions?
a. “What is the good life?”
b. “How should I live?”

ii. Summary (10 points ~ 1-2 pages):
1. Summarize the essay. Here you should demonstrate with direct quotes and commentary what you
think is significant and important about the essay. Here you should also start to support your thesis.

iii. Body (this should be the bulk of your paper):
1. Do the main work of supporting your interpretative thesis.
a. To guide your work you should at least cover the following issues (do not limit your
paper to just these points, I list these mostly to get you going. I want to see where the
essay takes you in your own personal interpretation):
i. Fink explains that play is interpersonal or intersubjective, what does this mean
and how does it relate to ethics? 5 points
ii. Discuss “the elementary structure of tension” (pp. 18, 19, 21, 24)
10 points
iii. Define “ontology”
1. What is the relation of ontology to ethics? 5 points
iv. What is the relation of Eudaimonia to play and how does it relate
to “oasis”? 5 points
v. Here are some suggestions of other words and names you should look up to
understand the essay: Danaidean, Tantalus, polysemy, pedagogical, Heraclitus,
Nietzsche, Schiller, Hegel
vi. Boredom (p. 17) is typically seen as a bad thing. But without boredom would we ever play, why or why not? 5 points
vii. What does freedom have to do with play and ethics (e.g., p. 19, 23)?
5pt
viii. Present some examination of the difference between adult play and the play of children (e.g., p. 18). 5 points

iv. Conclusion (10 points ~ one page):
1. Here you should summarize your paper (rephrase the argument you are using to support your
thesis) do not repeat but synthesize.
2. At this point in your paper you should (if you haven’t already) assess
the value of the Fink’s essay for your own life. For example:
a. What did you find useful for living a good life?
b. If there was anything you thought might damage living a good life you should include that here too if you have not done so earlier in your paper.

Meeting Proposal

This assignment will give you experience
observing and interacting with people outside
of the classroom. It has been designed to provide you with the
opportunity to develop skills, synthesize knowledge, and integrate learning in
a real-world setting. This goal is accomplished by challenging you to physically attend and observe a group.

Note: Social and family events, religious services,
classes, court proceedings, lectures, and sporting events are not acceptable
events for the purpose of this assignment.

Purpose: To provide you with an
opportunity to experience a group setting and analyze how the presence of
others substantially influences the behaviors of its members through social
facilitation.

Observe a group discussing a topic of
interest,
such as a focus group, a community public assembly, a department meeting at
your workplace, or local support group.

Study how the group members interact
and influence one another.

Analyze how the group behaviors and
communication patterns influence social facilitation.

Integrate your findings with
evidence-based literature from journal articles, the course text, and additional scholarly
sources. The literature should be about group patterns, not
about the content of the meeting.

Process: You will participate
as a guest at an interest group meeting in your community to gather data for a
qualitative research paper. Once you have located an interest group, contact
stakeholders, and explain the purpose of your inquiry. After you receive
permission to participate, you will schedule a date to attend the meeting; at
which time you will observe the members and document the following for your
analysis:

·
How were the people arranged in the
physical environment (layout of room and seating arrangement)?
·
What is the
composition of the group, in terms of number of people, age, sex, ethnicity, and
so on?
·
What are the group’s purpose, mission, and goals?
·
What is the duration
of the group (short- or long-term)? Explain.
·
Did the group
structure its discussion around an agenda, program, or rules of order?
·
Describe the
structure of the group. How is the group organized?
·
Who are the primary
facilitators of the group?
·
What subject or issues did the group
members examine during the meeting?
·
What types of information did members
exchange in their group?
·
What were the group’s
norms, roles, status hierarchy, or communication patterns?
·
What communication
patterns illustrated if the group was unified or fragmented? Explain.
·
Did the members share
a sense of identity with one another (characteristics of the group, similarities,
interests, philosophy, and so on)?
·
Was there any
indication that members might be vulnerable to groupthink? Why or why not?
·
In your opinion, how did the collective group
behaviors influence individual attitudes and the group’s effectiveness? Provide
your overall analysis.

Write a 1,050- to 1,400-word paper incorporating
your analysis with evidence to substantiate your conclusion.
