• Chapter 2: The Counselor as a Person and as a Professional

During the counseling process, expectations of the client/counselor relationship are established and maintained to ensure ethical counseling practices. However, there are times in which these boundaries may become blurred or when clients and counselors have strong reactions toward each other, leading to transference and countertransference. Prior to responding to this week’s discussion post, please read Cartwright, Stark, and Mountain (2018) article from this week’s Required Readings.
In your initial response, provide an example (a scenario) of when transference and an example of when countertransference can occur in a counseling relationship (a total of 2 scenarios). List your ethical concerns regarding each scenario for your classmates as if you are seeking professional consultation.

3.5 king jr

Now that you have read King Jr., Lamb, and texts on gender and colorism, please complete the below activity.
Activity
***There is a thread started here for specific quotes from King Jr., a thread for connections, and a thread for questions. Please only reply to existing threads – do not start a new one.
Please annotate and explain in detail the meaning and importance of the quote on at least one of the threads numbered 1-5. Also, select a line from Lamb, Okoro, Francis, Kilbourne, or Jensen that you think connects to King Jr. and explain the connection you see.
Reply to either the “Questions for Discussion” thread, or the “Connections” thread. For the “Questions for Discussion” thread, you can either ask a question or engage with a question that has already been asked by giving your thoughts. For the “Connections” thread, please make connections between King Jr., Lamb, Okoro, Francis, Kilbourne, or Jensen, and texts we have already read. You can explain something, comment on existing posts, analyze lines – whatever you think of! You don’t have to connect every single writer together, but can choose different combinations based on what you are seeing.
Consider the below things as you complete this:
Annotate the quote. Be sure to look up and explain unfamiliar, or important, vocabulary, ask questions, write comments, note your reactions, note interpretations, and any other aspect of annotating.
Interpret and analyze the quote – What is a deeper, more critical meaning? How can you explain it in your own terms?
Connect the ideas to other readings and/or or current society.
What questions does the quote raise? What does it make you want to know?
Quotes:
Thread 1: “You deplore the demonstrations taking place in Birmingham. But your statement, I am sorry to say, fails to express a similar concern for the conditions that brought about the demonstrations” (para. 5).
Thread 2: “Nonviolent direct action seeks to create such a crisis and foster such a tension that a community which has constantly refused to negotiate is forced to confront the issue” (para. 10).
Thread 3: “Lamentably, it is a historical fact that privileged groups seldom give up their privileges voluntarily. Individuals may see the moral light and voluntarily give up their unjust posture, but…groups tend to be more immoral than individuals” (para. 12).
Thread 4: “I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice…” (para. 23).
Thread 5: “I have tried to make it clear that it is wrong to use immoral means to attain moral ends. But now I must affirm that it is just as wrong, or perhaps even more so, to use moral means to preserve immoral ends” (para. 43).
IMPORTANT: A Note About Responding on Discussion Boards
I am trying to avoid the trap of having everyone post the same thing each time, as this can get repetitive and doesn’t really encourage active interaction with each other’s ideas. For this reason, I am trying to set these up with different options, and less restrictions about what you “have” to do. After all, we don’t need 28 explanations of the same reading, right?
When responding to this discussion board, please think about how you can add to and build upon the conversation. You can come up with your own new response to existing threads, but you can also simply read what was written before and respond by adding to the idea, asking questions, offering a different analysis, etc.
For example, if someone has already paraphrased a feature in a way that you would, rather than do the same thing, you can discuss what makes sense about their paraphrase, and why you think it is a good one. Alternatively, you can paraphrase it in a different way that maybe highlights an aspect of the feature that someone else didn’t give much attention to. You also might just want to do your own paraphrase for your own practice, even if you liked someone else’s!
You can also consider asking some questions! Asking good questions for discussion is a skill, so please click here to read more about “Bloom’s Taxonomy and Asking Good Questions”

To what extent is there a connection between myth and historical reality concerning the Sack of Troy in the period of classical Athens.

This is an art history assignment, not only focused on a specific research question but also relies on the use of evidence in the form of artifacts and iconography to prove the analysis and points.

It revolves around artifacts, the only one that is required is Lydos’s (potter/artist) Tondo depicting the Recovery of Helen by Menelaus. (https://museum.cornell.edu/collections/european/ancient/recovery-helen-menelaos)

Integrate that artifact into the discussion of the Myths and their representation in society in comparison to recorded historical fact. Use other artifacts as well that you find to add to the discussion.
