High Performing Work Team Analysis
This assignment is worth 20% of your final grade. It gives you an opportunity to analyze a tool used to assess the performance of a team. You must complete this assignment individually, without contacting other students, and you may not use a paper or any part of a paper from a previous class or from another person. If you have any questions about this assignment, please post them in the Ask the Professor discussion forum so that everyone can benefit from the answers. The assignment addresses Course Objectives 3, 4 and 5.

Organizations often use surveys or questionnaires to obtain information regarding employee satisfaction, organizational issues impacting staff performance, and perceptions of pay and benefits, organizational culture, etc. Sometimes, questionnaires are used in classes for staff development and focus on behavioral styles, conflict styles, or team behaviors. Additionally, surveys may be used to help intact teams or departments focus on and resolve team differences or performance issues. Many times, the questions themselves provide people with insight into what the organization expects from its employees.

The Scenario

You are the leader of a cross-functional team that has not been performing well. You are not sure what’s causing the problems, but you know that the team cannot continue this way. You have contacted the Human Resources (HR) department for help, and they suggested using the High Performing Work Teams Survey as a tool to diagnose problems within the team. Every team member will complete the survey anonymously. The HR department will analyze the results and will work with you to develop a plan to address issues.

Your Task

Read the questions in the High Performing Work Teams Survey. The survey follows these instructions. You will analyze the questions, identify trends you see in the questions, and discuss what you and the members of your team could learn by taking this survey.

Write 4-7 pages (not counting the cover or reference pages), summarizing the trends you identified, describing what you and your team members could learn from taking the survey, and discussing your conclusions about what is required of team members in order to create a high performing work team. Support your opinions and statements with a minimum of five references from sources published within the last ten years.

You can cite scholarly and practitioner-oriented journals, newspaper articles, YouTube videos, (but not Wikipedia, vendor websites, or other non-academic sources.) Please use the UMUC library to search for appropriate sources rather than Google or other search engines. Librarians are available by phone, email, and chat; they are excellent at their jobs and they love to help students. See the Library link in the Resources section (on the ribbon at the top of our classroom) or go directly to for more information and to begin searching for sources. You can also consult a graduate writing tutor for help with organizing your ideas, presenting them clearly, and complying with APA style requirements. You can access tutors through the Writing Tutoring module in our classroom.

Use APA format for citations, references, and quotations. This means your list of references should start on a separate page, and should be double spaced, with a hanging indent and no spaces between entries. Your analysis should be 4-7 pages (not counting the cover or reference pages), double spaced with one-inch margins and a font size of at least 11 points. The rubric for Grading High Performing Work Team Analysis is provided along with this document (it follows the High Performing Work Teams Survey). The rubric gives details on how your analysis will be graded. Keep in mind that most organizations value efficient communication; busy managers don’t have time – and most don’t have the desire – to read long reports. Keep your writing clear and concise.

Please add the following statement to the cover of your paper:

This paper is my own work that I created specifically for this course and this section. All research or material I used in preparing this paper has been properly acknowledged within the assignment in accordance with academic standards for complete and accurate citation of sources.

Healthcare Interdisciplinary/interprofessional Collaboration, Leadership and issues

This assessment will introduce the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) Model to create change in an organization. By interviewing a health care professional or a health care colleague of your choice, you will begin gathering information about an interprofessional collaboration problem that your colleague is experiencing or has experienced. You will then create a 2-3 page report on this interview. Identify how the issue you identified from the interview, could be improved with an interdisciplinary approach and review best practices and evidence that could be used to address this issue. In other words, you will identify a change theory and leadership strategies to help solve this problem.
• (I interviewed a Registered Nurse. The issue I identified from the interview was “Frequent reports of patients falling at home after being discharged from our hospital.” I included some articles for this assignment but you could also use your own references as long as they are all scholarly or professional and NO more than 5 years old.
I choose Interdisciplinary collaboration/approaches from the following departments:
1. Nursing department—Should reach out to all the necessary departments requesting their participation in reducing or eliminating falls from patients after discharge from the facility.
2. Physical therapy Department — Should extend their services to patients after discharge by calling via phone or video calls and check in with patients at a mutually agreed times.
3. Social Workers Department: — They should check and verify that family members and or Home Health Aide involved in the care of patients with impaired mobility, be trained in the specific use of certain mobile equipment that helps with ambulation and transfer from one point in the home to another, such as from a bed to a chair.
4. Admission and Discharge Department: — Should ensure that all protocols decided on after the interprofessional/Interdisciplinary Collaboration are checked off before any patient file is closed.
As a health care professional, your participation and leadership in interdisciplinary teams will be vital to the health outcomes for your patients and organization. One way to approach designing an improvement project is to use the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle. The Institute for Healthcare Improvement describes it thus:
The Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle is shorthand for testing a change in the real work setting—by planning it, trying it, observing the results, and acting on what is learned. This is the scientific method adapted for action-oriented learning…Essentially, the PDSA cycle helps you test out change ideas on a smaller scale before evaluating the results and making adjustments before potentially launching into a somewhat larger scale project (n.d.).
You might also recognize that the PDSA cycle resembles the nursing process. The benefit of gaining experience with this model of project design is that it provides nurses with an opportunity to ideate and lead improvements. For this assessment, you will NOT be implementing all of the PDSA cycle. Instead, you are being asked to interview a health care professional of your choice to determine what kind of interdisciplinary problem he or she is experiencing or has experienced in the workplace. This interview, in Assessment 1, will inform the research that you will conduct to propose a plan for interdisciplinary collaboration in Assessment 2.

Demonstration of Proficiency

 This assessment is the first of three related assessments in which you will gather interview information (Assessment 1); design a proposal for interdisciplinary problem-solving, (Assessment 2); and report on how an interdisciplinary improvement plan could be implemented in a place of practice (Assessment 3). At the end of the course, your interviewee will have a proposal plan based on the PDSA cycle that he or she could present to stakeholders to address an interdisciplinary problem in the workplace. Consult the Interview Guide (Attached) for an outline of how to prepare and the types of information you will need to complete this project successfully.
Remember: this is just the first in a series of three assessments.
 Additionally, you will start laying the foundation for your Interdisciplinary Plan Proposal assessment by researching potential change theories, leadership strategies, and collaboration approaches that could be relevant to issue you have identified.
When submitting your plan, use the Interview and Issue Identification Template (Attached) which will help you to stay organized and concise. As you complete the template, make sure you use APA format for in-text citations for the evidence and best practices that are informing your plan, as well as for the reference list at the end.
Additionally, be sure to address the following, which corresponds to the grading criteria in the scoring guide. Please study the scoring guide carefully so you understand what is needed for a distinguished score. Note that there are differences between basic, proficient and distinguished scores.
• Summarize an interview focused on past or current issues at a health care organization.
o Discuss the interview strategy that you used to collect information.
• Your interview strategy should be supported by citations from the literature. Identify an issue from an interview for which an evidence-based interdisciplinary approach would be appropriate.
• Describe potential change theories and leadership strategies that could inform an interdisciplinary solution to an organizational issue.
• Describe collaboration approaches from the literature that could facilitate establishing or improving an interdisciplinary team to address an organizational issue.
• Communicate with writing that is clear, logically organized, and professional, with correct grammar and spelling, and using current APA style.
(Competency 1: Explain how interdisciplinary collaboration can be used to achieve desired patient and systems outcomes.
Competency 2: Describe ways to incorporate evidence-based practice within an interdisciplinary team.
Competency 3: Explain how change management theories and leadership strategies can enable interdisciplinary teams to achieve specific organizational goals.
Competency 4: Apply professional, scholarly, evidence-based communication strategies to impact patient, interdisciplinary team, and systems outcomes.)
Additional Requirements
• Length of submission: Use the provided template. Most submissions will be 2 to 3 pages in length. Be sure to include a reference page at the end of the plan.
• Number of references: Cite a minimum of 3-4 sources of scholarly or professional evidence that support your central ideas. Resources should be NO more than 5 years old.
• APA formatting: Make sure that in-text citations and reference list follow current APA
style.

Lemonade stand

Which is why for this lab, you will be illustrating the steps and factors involved with creating and running a lemonade stand. Some suggested formats that you may choose to do this are: a slideshow, a digital or hand-drawn poster, or maybe even a video. Feel free to get creative and select a format and method that best expresses your vision for this project and allows you to meet the given requirements.

Whatever format you select, you will need to clearly identify and explain each step and/or factor involved in the lemonade stand process. For each step/factor that you discuss, you will also need to identify how that step/factor relates to entrepreneurship or starting a business.

You will need to address each of the following items (though you are not limited to these items if there are additional steps/factors that you want to address):

Location
Startup Costs
Pricing Plan
Marketing
Production/Products
For each step/factor listed above, you will need to make sure that you do the following:

Explain the step/factor in relation to starting and running a lemonade stand
Provide a minimum of one image or graphic that is pertinent to the step/factor (if making a video, hold up an image, use a prop, etc.)
Evaluate how this step/factor relates to entrepreneurship and/or helps prepare someone for one day starting a business
The information that you include in your project will be a combination of content from the unit, information that you discover through online research, and a bit of your own creative knowledge and input.

Submit your project in the most appropriate and accessible format possible (i.e. a digital PPT or Word file, a video file, image files that contain photographs of whatever hand-drawn project you made, etc.). Please also include a list of websites and/or resources used in your research. Refer to the rubric below for more information on how you will be graded.
