Compare and contrast two theorists/theories regarding a psychological
disorder. You can choose any belief system/theorist you would like to “compare
and contrast”. They can even be from
different disciplines that we have not discussed, as long as one of them is
from the psychology field.

Examples: Freudian
psychoanalysis and behaviorists view on depression. Or compare the Catholic churches belief and
the neurosciences belief on an anxiety.

Disorders to choose
from: depression, manic/depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder,
and/addictions. If there are other
disorders, you would like to look at please ask instructor.

Task 7
No matter what walk of life you come from, what industry you’re interested in pursuing or how much experience you’ve already garnered, we’ve all seen firsthand the importance of critical thinking skills. In fact, lacking such skills can truly make or break a person’s career, as the consequences of one’s inability to process and analyze information effectively can be massive.

Think of someone you have come to admire as a critical thinker. If available, ask them a few questions on how they have implemented their critical thinking skills. (If they are not available, answer the questions based on your knowledge of them). Some questions to consider include:
How did you become such a great critical thinker?
What tips can you offer to someone trying to increase their critical thinking skills?
How easy is it to avoid impediments to critical thinking?
Be sure to include at least 2 questions of your own.

Then, because you’re now a guru too, how would you explain/teach critical thinking to someone who hasn’t quite grasped its fundamentals? What tips would you offer them? How would you explain to them how to assess their critical thinking?

After reading the article, 7 Essential Questions All Great Managers Ask Their Employees, create a short video addressing the following information:
Identify a follower (or peer) with a performance problem related to his/her job.
Refer to the 7 coaching questions in the article and use at least 4 of them to help the follower (or peer) gain clarification, self-direction, and self-correction.
Your video should be 5 minutes explaining the results of your brief coaching session with a follower or peer. You are not expected to utilize all 7 questions but you do need to use at least 4 questions, depending on the situation. The objective here is to practice using these questions; you are not expected to do a perfect job!
Please include the following in your video presentation:
The problem and context (who’s involved, how long it’s been going on, symptoms)
What did you do well in terms of the questions/process?
Inner dialogue – describe any thoughts and judgments regarding yourself and the follower/peer (self-talk); how did you “see” this person? Note: How we see people affects our nonverbal cues and how they see themselves!
What do you need to do to improve in terms of the questions/process and seeing the potential in others?
Note: Coaching is not about advice; it’s about developing followers through patience, leaders’ perceptual changes, and asking the right questions.

Describe two of Malcolm X’s strategies for bettering the lives of African Americans.
Pick either his Malcolm X phase or his Malik El-Shabazz phase but you will still read the whole
book because he is describing his life through the lens of what he has learned throughout his life.
Do you agree? Tell me what he thought of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s strategy and your opinion.
After a brief introduction paragraph, spend two paragraphs explaining two of his
strategies from that same timeframe. That is, two strategies from his Malcolm X period or two
from his Shabazz period. Spend a paragraph on what he said about King. Note that he is trying
not to call out King by name so you will have to figure out what he means. Finally, give me a
paragraph no longer than a page explaining your opinion. If you agree, say a bit about how it
would work today. If you disagree with Malcolm, do you think you would agree if we were
living in 1952? Do you think there was some value in his message? What was it?
Avoid other sources, especially websites; your essay should be about The Autobiography
of Malcolm X. The essay should show that you
understood the book with plenty of specific examples. Do not be vague or use stereotypes about
Malcolm X.

Critical thinking is authentic.
Everyone thinks; it is our nature to do so. But much of our thinking, left to itself, is biased, distorted, partial, uninformed, or downright prejudiced. If we want to think well, we must understand at least the rudiments of thought, the most basic structures out of which all thinking is made. We must learn how to take thinking apart.
All Thinking Is Defined by the Eight Elements That Make It Up. Eight basic structures are present in all thinking: Whenever we think, we think for a purpose within a point of view based on assumptions leading to implications and consequences. We use concepts, ideas and theories to interpret data, facts, and experiences in order to answer questions, solve problems, and resolve issues.
Thinking, then:

raises questions
uses information
utilizes concepts
makes inferences
makes assumptions
generates implications
embodies a point of view
