What are the benefits of incorporating these elements of reasoning into your everyday thinking?

Discussion D
Welcome to Discussion D. This week we are introduced to the elements of reasoning.
Remember, your initial post should be at least 300 words and your replies should be at least 100 words each.
By now, you’ve become pretty familiar with the concept of Critical Thinking. To become a master at it, understanding the basic elements of how we think is, well…critical. There are 8 basic elements of thought and reasoning and this week, we get to explore them!
Begin by exploring this interactive wheel on the 8 Elements of Reasoning.
Learn more about how each element contributes to the way that we think!
Initial Post:
What are the benefits of incorporating these elements of reasoning into your everyday thinking? Go around the wheel and expound upon the usefulness of each element, especially as it relates to thinking in your particular field of study. Be specific, and provide examples where necessary.

Respond to two of your classmates’ postings. Offer them your input on critical thinking and reasoning methods that might assist them in their own thought processes.

Identify seven cities and note the “Cost of Living Index” value and the “Groceries Index” value.

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, read Chapter 4 of your textbook, including the Brief Case “Cost of Living” at the end of Chapter 4 on page 143 and access the Numbeo Northern America: Current Cost of Living Index by City (numbeo.com)
(Links to an external site.)
In this assignment, you will be analyzing the Cost of Living Index and the Groceries Index for seven U.S. cities and creating a scatterplot to identify the relationships between the variables. You may choose any seven U.S. cities you wish.
Go to the Numbeo Northern America: Current Cost of Living Index by City (numbeo.com)
(Links to an external site.)
and then follow directions below to get started:
Identify seven cities and note the “Cost of Living Index” value and the “Groceries Index” value.
Develop a table with three columns:
City
Groceries Index (independent variable)
Cost of Living Index (dependent variable)
Complete one row for column titles (City name, Groceries Index, and Cost of Living Index) and seven rows that show the city name, Groceries Index and the Cost of Living index.
In your Excel spreadsheet or tool of your choosing you will have developed a table with three columns, one row for titles, and seven rows containing data for each city you selected. In Excel or the software of your choosing:
Insert or draw a scatterplot of the selected data set.
Display the regression line (also called the trend line, linear model, or line of best fit). In Excel click anywhere in the scatterplot. Click on the plus sign and at the bottom of Chart Elements select “Trend line.”
Display the equation for the trend line and R2 value on the graph. In Excel right click on the trend line. View the options on the right of the chart under “Format Trendline” and scroll to the bottom to select the boxes for display equation on chart and display R-squared on chart options.
In your paper:
Cite the URL and complete an APA reference for the URL.
Provide the table with your data and your spreadsheet of the graph with the equation and R2
Analyze your findings of the best and worst cities that predict the relationship between the Groceries Index and Cost of Living Index.
Assess the relationship between the Groceries Index and Cost of Living Index in the cities you studied.

What are some of the ways women can gain political power?

Refer to at least three of the learning resources for the week in your response to one or more of the questions below. Include specific examples from your life, history, the news, or the media.
What does it mean to you to say that “the personal is the political?”
What are some of the ways women can gain political power? Why is it important for women to have a voice in government and policy? Why is it important that women exercise their right to vote?
What reasons does Susan B. Anthony give in “Constitutional Argument” for why women need to be acknowledged as citizens with equal rights (including the right to vote) under the constitution?
Should women be considered as a voting group? What are the arguments for and against thinking about women as a single constituency?
What do you think would be the most effective way to move more women into political office, particularly on the national level?
Did this reading help you gain a different understanding of the term “body politics?” How are women’s bodies politicized?
How are gender roles and expectations connected to violence against women? What role do governments and political organizations have in finding solutions?
Why is reproductive choice such a controversial political issue? Do you think the fact that most issues of reproductive choice center on women and women’s bodies have contributed to the belief that government has a role to play in managing reproductive choice? Are there any aspects of male health or sexuality that are equally politicized? Should it be a political issue at all?
Margaret Sanger’s campaign to legalize birth control was met with sometimes violent protest by those who objected that she was essentially promoting lewd behavior. Why do you think people were so strongly against her campaign? What were people worried would happen if women gained access to birth control?
Like Margaret Sanger, feminism (and Women’s Studies) has traditionally supported a pro-choice position on abortion. Do you agree with this position? What would a pro-life feminist position look like?
Provide your initial post by 11:59 pm on Sunday. Your initial post should be at least 200 words in length, excluding the discussion prompt and the references. Please use in-text APA citations within your post as well as full APA references at the end of your post.

Explain the ethical considerations to keep in mind if you were to conduct research on your chosen topic.

PLEASE READ BEFORE ACCEPTING ORDER!
Multiple due dates prior to final deadline.
May 13th: Research Question Deadline
May 13th: Research Proposal Project Sampling Assignment (Microsoft document attached)
June 24th: Final paper due.
****As of now, only dates set in stone, could change though****
The research question and methods paper provides you the
opportunity to expand upon the knowledge you gained in
SOC 331 in forming a research question, performing empirical
research
using the library databases, and APA style. In addition, this
paper
allows you to develop knowledge around how best to employ an
appropriate research method for your chosen topic.

This paper is your opportunity to demonstrate your ability to
critically think through the creation of a research question and
discussion of the methodology of your choosing. It will also
provide you with the opportunity to continue to expand your
knowledge of APA style.

A 6-8 page paper in APA style in which you create a
research question based on your topic of interest, but
also related to the disciplines within the behavioral
sciences.
In this paper, create a research question and explain what
specific type of research method you would use if you were
to
conduct research to answer your research question. Do not
conduct any research. Be sure to explain why you would
choose this method and how it is better than some of the
other methods for answering your question.
In addition, discuss the strengths and weaknesses of your
proposed research method, and use citations from the
textbook. This will be the “heart” of this paper. Be sure to
explain this section in detail and provide specific examples.
Relate the strengths and weaknesses to your topic, and
how, as a researcher, you would compensate for any
weaknesses. Keep in mind that research methods are not
right or wrong, just appropriate or not appropriate for
answerng the research question.
Explain the ethical considerations to keep in mind if you
were to conduct research on your chosen topic. How would
you address confidentiality and anonymity (Hint: You can’t
have both)? How would you protect your subjects or
participants?
You will also be expected to briefly summarize and cite from a minimum of five (5) scholarly articles and the textbook. Minimum means that you have met this requirement for the
assignment, which equates to a letter grade of C
(satisfactory) for this rubric category.
You may use other high quality non-scholarly sources.
You may use any resources in this Canvas site.
A good paper would “weave in” specific examples from all of your sources into the text of your paper. Be sure to connect
the scholarly articles to what you have to say about your
chosen research method.

In much of your professional life, you will be asked by your
supervisor, clients or funders: how is the program doing or what can/should we do differently? While they may be interested in
what you think, they will very interested in what you know,
especially if you can back up your opinion with facts, literature
based theory, statistics, and/or logical reasoning. Anyone can
have opinions, but those that really matter are ones that are well-thought out, backed up by existing literature, and developed
through the deployment of rigorous research. Being able to do
research into a problem or evaluate an existing program will
distinguish you from those who cannot.

The best way to approach this assignment is to first create your research question and then concentrate on finding your sources so that you can see how others are researching your topic and
the ethical considerations surrounding it. Next, spend the bulk of your time discussing how you would conduct the research. A
good place to start is to consider your methodology…will you
employ a Quantitative or Qualitative Methodology? Then, think
about data collection methods…i.e.: interviews, surveys, or
observations. Finish up by continuing to add details about your methods. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. For
example, if everyone who does research on your topic is
using case study methodology, that is a huge clue that you should probably be using this methodology for your paper.
If you have any questions or need some guidance, please
contact your instructor.

Write a paper that integrates that person’s experience with the empirical research literature on child abuse.

Write a paper that integrates that person’s experience with the empirical research literature on child abuse. Similarly, if you choose a film on autism spectrum disorder (such as “Rainman”), you might provide details on the accuracy of the depiction, the risk and protective factors related to the disorder, and the expected outcome for the character in the film.

You should not merely regurgitate the information from the memoir or film, but rather, use that person’s or character’s experience to integrate your knowledge of the relevant research literature. If relevant, you might want to consider addressing the following types of questions in your paper: What psychopathology (if any) was evident? Give specific examples (if relevant) of the symptoms of psychopathology (whether in the child or his/her parents). What risk factors were part of the person’s experience? What protective factors came into play? What therapeutic orientation was used, if therapy was conducted?

The paper should be detailed enough to show a thorough grasp of the subject at hand. In most cases, the paper should be approximately 8-10 pages, plus a Reference page with at least five (5) journal or book references. Information from legitimate, official websites is allowed, but will not be counted toward the minimum number of references. Early and on-time papers will be greeted with a smile.
