This assignment is intended to provide students with an array of experiential education opportunities outside of the classroom. It will provide the following:
Connect classroom learning with workplace experience.
Broaden the view of opportunities for students at many different companies.
Create a starting point for learning how to network with professionals.
Practice professionalism and business etiquette.
Help to define potential career paths after graduation.
Get a real look into different career paths you can potentially take.
Use this time as a “pre-interview” for potential internship, co-op, or job opportunities.
See different ways you can incorporate your major into a career.
Practice using professionalism and gain some hands-on experience networking with other professionals.
Students will create a voice audio presentation. Obtain relevant information either in person or via Internet of a CEO, Manager, Director, or any key player within the organization. Deliverables for this assignment include:
Engage the audience.
Stay within the allotted time limit (approximately 10 minutes).
Voice should be embedded on each slide.
Must add value to what is presented on the slide to improve the understanding of your work.

Ethical SWOT Analysis
Students will analyze the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of their chosen technology.

Historical Context and Ethical Questions
Students will define their chosen technology, identify key historical events surrounding that technology in the form of a timeline, create several ethical questions to be answered, and determine the ethical lens they will view their technology through.

Literature Review
Students will identify at least five key sources related to their chosen technology, summarize their key points, analyze their strengths and weaknesses, and draw connections among the sources.

Equity Impact Assessment
Students will assess the impact of their chosen technology on disadvantaged people in society. The assessment will include the goals of the technology, groups likely to be impacted by the technology, regions most likely to be impacted, and positive, negative, and possible unintended consequences the technology might produce.

Code of Ethics
Students will create a code of ethics appropriate to their chosen technology. The code will include a preamble, guiding principles, and applications of those principles.

Recommendations
Students will create written recommendations based on their chosen technology. The recommendations will consist of an introduction and thesis, a discussion of the ethical dilemmas raised by the technology, recommendations to ameliorate those dilemmas, and a conclusion that summarizes the main arguments.

1. Length: 3-5 pages (double spaced)
2. Your topic should cover an important political event or an issue. Your topic does not have
to be specific to the state of Texas, although it certainly can be. You
are welcome to write about any important recent or current political
issue in the United States. However, if you choose to write about a
national or a federal issue, at least a portion of your paper should
focus on what it means for Texas. You have a lot of freedom here. As
long as your topic covers something that influences current political
climate in the United States, it should work. Possible topics include
but are not limited to recent elections, landmark Supreme Court cases,
recent bills passed by Federal and State Congress, civil rights and
civil liberties issues, climate change, etc. I’d advise to choose
something you are passionate about. Feel free to reach out to me to

Imagine you are a member of a newly developed diversity team in your workplace. Your team is considering how individual identity contributes to cultural diversity. Your team leader has asked each member to take time to reflect on the personal identity and the aspects of cultural diversity you represent and how understanding your own traits affect your perspective of cultural diversity. Keep in mind that identity is more than what people “see” when they look at you.

Using what you learned in the reading assignments for Weeks 1 and 2, describe what cultural diversity means to you. Include identifiers of cultural diversity such as race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexual orientation, language, age, disability, religion, and so on. (Remember, there is a variety of characteristics of and contributors to cultural diversity.)
List 4 cultural identifiers that you identify with most (e.g., Asian American, female, and so on).
Write a paper based on your reflection, how might understanding your own traits affect your perspective of cultural diversity in and outside of the workplace?

Your Development as a Change Agent
Novice change leaders often picture themselves as being in the right and those that oppose them as somehow wrong. This certainty gives them energy and the will to persist in the face of such opposition. It sets up a dynamic of opposition—the more they resist, the more I must try to change them, and so I persuade them more, put more pressure on them, and perhaps resort to whatever power I have to force change.
1. Think of a situation where someone held a different viewpoint than yours. What were your assumptions about that person? Did you believe they just didn’t get it, were wrong-headed, perhaps a bit stupid?
Or did you ask yourself, why would they hold the position they have? If you assume they are as rational and as competent as you are, why would they think as they do? Think back to Table 8.2. Are you at stage one, two, three, or four?

2. Are you able to put yourself into the shoes of the resister? Ask yourself: What forces play on that person? What beliefs does he or she have? What criteria is he or she using to evaluate the situation?
3. What are the implications of your self-assessment with respect to what you need to do to develop yourself as a change agent?
