SHOULD MICE BE USED FOR PROSTATE CANCER RESEARCH

Writing Topic: “SHOULD MICE BE USED FOR PROSTATE CANCER RESEARCH”?
Last week’s assignment focused on the art of crafting an argument supported by fact. This week we continue to focus on writing well supported arguments (we will start writing full essays, with all components, next week). Drawing from the notes you jotted down last week in outline format, I ask that you write what is effectively 3/5 of a full argumentative essay. Specifically, I would like you to focus on writing out an introduction (1 paragraph) and two fact-based arguments (~2-4 paragraphs) supporting your ethical position. You do not need to write a counter-argument or conclusion this week; As stated, the goals is for you to focus on presenting your arguments. I have altered the writing topic slightly from last week’s to allow you to provide context-specific arguments.
Note: you only need to write an introduction and the 2 argument sections.
Page length: 1-1.5pg, double spaced (We will deduct points for essays longer than 2 pages). Reference list is not counted in page limit.
Introduction, which should contain:
• short background to the issue
• clearly stated thesis

I must make an analysis for 3 consequentive years with the calculation
As show on the assignment brief

Dear All,

1. This is an individual assignment, not a group one; hence you cannot submit an assignment as a group of two or more. However, you can discuss with each other the details of your work to learn from each other.
2. Deadline is 12th April, 2022.
3. You can submit the assignment in Word
4. Your submission should include the raw data, the calculations (and you can attach an excel spreadsheet for these purposes), and the interpretation of the results.
5. I encourage you to use the 5-step Du Pont Analysis which includes “Interest burden” and “Tax burden” as well. However, you can also use just the 3-step version.
6. Here is how you’d prepare the assignment:
a. Select two companies of the same industry. For example, GlaxoSmithKline and Eczacıbaşı, i.e. an international pharmaceutical company and a Turkish one. You can also select two international or two Turkish companies or from any other country. The important issue is that I should be able to access their financial statements online (via their official website or the website of exchange where the companies are listed).
Note that each student should select a different industry and different companies. Please e-mail your selected industry and companies to this group. If any two students accidently select the same companies to analyze, the second one to email will have to make a new selection. Now that there are 14 students enrolled in the class, we should have analyzed 14 different industries and 28 different companies. And I shall share with a summary of these analysis the week after.
b. The analysis shall be done for three consecutive years. You can select any three-year period. Needless to say, they should be the same periods for both companies subject to the analysis. Beware that you’d need to have a fourth-year figure to calculate the “average balance sheet numbers”. And I correct myself: Averages should be calculated based on the last two years, i.e. the beginning of period figure and the en of period figure. For example, if you want to calculate asset turnover ratio for 2021, then you should divide 2021 sales figure to the average of 2021 total asset and that of 2020.
Sales (2021): 100
Total assets (2021): 2500
Total assets (2020): 2000
Then the asset turnover ratio for 2021 is “{ 100 / [(2500 + 2000)/2] }
c. Download the companies’ financial statements (balance sheet and income statement) and find out (identify) the relevant figures for your analysis, put them in an excel spreadsheet. Please provide the references as well
d. Make your calculations for the two companies for three years and interpret the results. Interpretation should be made both vertical and horizontal. Vertical means a historical approach, i.e., how the companies performed in the analyzed three years -their individual performance. Horizontal means an industry-wise approach, i.e., how the companies performed compared to each other in time. Not a must but if you can also find out the industry averages as well, that would be great.
e. You can also put the analysis in simple graphs if you like.
