Operations Management–Major Project

Major Project
Assignment
Choose 1 of the
following 5 topics (or email to me a proposal for a different topic). This assignment
is worth 35% of your final mark. No groups, please.
Your response for
the major project might vary in form. Most students will likely choose to
create a Word document and write a full-length report. There is no minimum
requirement on the length of such a report – but you should feel like you have
covered the topic.
All responses must
include at least a single-page executive summary and a detailed list of
references. The executive summary should be a complete report all on one page.
The references can be in any style, but they should include all your sources,
including personal interviews, if any. Your work should indicate a depth and
breadth of research in the topic. Many of the options below could be satisfied
by “telling a story” – but the story should be augmented by your reflections,
and your reflections should be augmented by your scholarly research into
general theory and into the experiences of other firms.
If you need help
finding good material to read so that you understand more about the assignment
you choose, please do not hesitate to ask me.
The “ideal”
response would be a piece of work worthy of being published as an HBR reading
or HBS case study. Not that I actually think you have time to produce such a
product between now and the due date – just think of it as the highest possible
goal.
The assignment
choices are on the following page: (Please check the attachment.)

Briefly describe both situations. Describe and evaluate the key elements of communication in both situations. This assignment is the second half of an assignment that asks you to keep a journal in two parts while reading Spiegelhalter. Standard dates and due times apply, as well as lateness penalties (half a letter grade per day). Note that the below is not meant to be a paper, so don’t get too caught up on submitting a lengthy submission.
Each Journal submission is worth up to 50 points. For your first journal, please repeat the following from your first journal:
A. Create a brief journal entry for each chapter. In each entry, identify and explain the following:
1. For each chapter, select and identify at least 1 key term, concept, or example you understand. Explain why you find it easy to understand.
2. For each chapter, select and identify at least 1 key term, concept, or example in each chapter that you are having a hard time with. Explain why you are struggling with it.
3. For each chapter, list at least 1 key term, concept, or example that we have encountered previously, in the lectures, book, or even casual conversations from our Zoom meetings.
B. Next, for the second journal submission, create an extra journal entry answering the following questions:
