Part II: Descriptive Statistics, Histogram/Stacked Comparative Bar-Chart, and Correlation Table.
Use SPSS to create a descriptive statistics table. Transfer the results to the empty Excel file posted in the Resources folder. Your variables should appear in the ROWS and your statistics in the COLUMNS. You need to include the following values: N, Min. Max, Average, Median, and Standard Deviation.
Create a histogram of your IV and DV if you have a continuous variable or a variable that has more than 2 response categories (used for a regression). If you have a binary DV variable, you need to make a stacked comparative bar chart that shows the distribution of responses as a percentage by group. I have created a video posted on Brightspace that shows you how to create a comparative stacked bar chart using SPSS. Save the graphic and paste it into the same word file as your descriptive statistics table. It would be a good idea to use the Graphic Editor in SPSS to give the graph a proper title and legends. Briefly, describe the distribution of the histogram or stacked bar chart using specific numbers to describe the distribution.
Use SPSS to generate a Pearson’s correlation (r) table that includes all of your variables (except ID and ballot).
Run a Regression Analysis or a Comparison of Proportions/Means test (whichever one you/we have decided you need to test your hypothesis) using SPSS for regression and MedCalc for the comparisons. You will need to limit the sample to be between 2000 and 3000 cases. If you complete a comparison of proportions test, be sure to use SPSS to create the crosstabs needed to obtain the numbers for calculating results (you need this to get the correct numbers, again I have a video on Brightspace that shows this). For the regression, copy the results of the MAIN analysis (include only the regression table…do not include the other tests that are reported along with the regression output). If you complete a comparison of proportions test, use the Excel table to fill in the numbers used for the test (from the crosstabs) and then from the results table produced by MedCalc. Place the results into your word file along with the other tables.
Create a Correlation Table that includes your IV and DV as well as any control variables. You do not need to include “ballot” or “id.”
If you plan on doing a regression, create a Scatterplot of your IV and DV. Make the x-axis your IV and the y-axis your DV.
Once you have completed all tasks, attach the Word file that includes Part I and Part II to this assignment and submit. You do not have to interpret the results. You are only working on generating them and understanding why you are generating them. You will interpret the results in Assignment 7.

Establishing Character (400-600 word essay)
For this exercise, you will take on the role of a production designer (and screenwriter), constructing a fictional character through describing the mise en scene of their bedroom. Who is this bedroom’s inhabitant? What do we know about them based on this space? Your description of the mise en scene will need to communicate this to the film crew who will shoot the project and to the audience who will see the completed film.
Do not tell us anything about this character or their physical traits–only describe their room. Don’t tell us their name, their hair color, their voice, etc. Your classmates/TA/professor will need to be able to surmise who this person is by virtue of the mise en scene.
