Case Study 2 The Pizzeria
The Pizzeria is a small takeaway and home delivery pizza restaurant that has two owner-managers and five additional staff including the main chef and apprentice cook. The business premises situated in the busy regional city of Lismore, New South Wales, consist of a single storey shop front with a small garden and roof top with a few chairs where staff can relax. Although The Pizzeria has a large menu we focus our attention on their signature pizza, the famous margarita, cooked in a wood-fired brick oven and delivered in the owner’s Nissan Micra.
Required
List all of the ingredients (food inputs) required to make a margarita pizza. (2 marks)
Identify the steps in the standard system for making a margarita pizza including preparation, cooking and packaging. (2 marks)
Identify the main raw material and energy inputs and waste outputs during the production and distribution of a margarita pizza through to consumer disposal. (2 marks)
Suggest two improvements in the design of the margarita pizza and/or its packaging that could make it more sustainable; for example, think of ways energy consumption, waste and pollution could be reduced. (4 marks)
Suggest two improvements in the design of the pizza production system within the shop that could reduce water, energy or transport service consumption, waste or pollution. (4 marks)

The owners of The Pizzeria seek your advice on an ethical problem. They setup this business as a family business 10 years ago with the intention of providing long term financial security for their family of five. They are good friends with their main pizza chef who has worked tirelessly to build the business since it began. The owners’ son can also cook, and is currently unemployed. There are insufficient sales to enable two full time chefs. Their loyalty is torn between a long-time friend and business colleague, and what’s best for their family.
Describe the ethical dilemma confronting the owners of The Pizzeria. (2 marks)
What do you recommend they should do? Provide a strong and rational argument to support your view. Identify additional information you need to more fully understand this dilemma. (4 marks)

What is your overall evaluation of the nutrition claim?

Evaluation of Nutrition Claim
Choose a nutrition-related claim to critique. The claim can come from a popular magazine,
newspaper, website, book, documentary, video, social media page, product label or
advertisement. The claim can be related to any popular diet, supplement, food, ingredient, or
eating strategy as it relates to any aspect of health, fitness, wellness, or performance. To
receive full credit, please choose a claim (from one of the above sources) that cites some
supporting “research” and contains enough information to do a thoughtful critique (5 pts.).
Write a 2-3 page, typed, double-spaced paper (12 pt. font with 1” margins) in which you
thoroughly answer the 3 questions below and include your references (in either MLA or APA
citation format) at the end. NOTE: Your citations should include your nutrition claim source, as
well as 2 additional scientific research references (from peer-reviewed journals or credible
government/professional organizations) that either support or refute the claim (5 pts.).
Please proof-read your paper for correct grammar/spelling (5 pts.).
______________________________________________________________________________
#1. What is the nutrition claim being made and how trustworthy is the source? 10 pts.
• Who is the author/person making the claim? Do this person’s credentials, work
affiliations, education, and experience provide you with confidence that they are a
credible and unbiased source of nutrition information?
• Where is the claim published? Is this a reliable source of nutrition information? Who
paid for the publication? Is there any conflict of interest or potential sources of bias?
#2. How good is the “research” supporting the claim? 10 pts.
• Is it anecdotal/testimonials or actual research published in peer-reviewed journals?
• How strong is the study design (observational vs. intervention; randomized, double-
blind, placebo-controlled)? Any confounding factors that may affect the study’s results?
• Who were the subjects, how many subjects were used, what was the study duration?
NOTE: If any of the above details are not provided by the claim’s source and therefore
unknown to you, that weakens the claim’s credibility – be sure to state that in your paper!
#3. What is your overall evaluation of the nutrition claim? Is the claim put in proper
perspective and presented in a responsible manner? 15 pts.
• Any mention to how many studies support vs. reject the claim?
• Any warning about adverse side effects or risks?
• Any acknowledgement of other factors that have a more significant impact on health,
fitness, wellness, and performance than the one being mentioned in the claim?
NOTE: Please use 2 scientific research references (from peer-reviewed journals or
government/professional organizations) to give your overall evaluation about the claim.

Argumentative Research Essay on Mental Health

Essay #3—Research
Objective:
Your goal in writing this 8-10 page research essay is to explore both the Toumlin and
Rogerian argumentation styles and to decide which to use for your topic. You will also

APA as dictated by your topic choice. Professional presentation of both the paper and its ancillary materials is a
priority.
Purpose: This assignment is designed to do the following:
1. Give you practice in basic research skills
2. Teach/refresh the mechanics and purposes of both MLA and APA research
documentation styles
3. Encourage practice in using appropriate sources as well as citing them properly
4. Encourage practice in Incorporating research into your essay using paraphrase,
summary, signal phrases, and direct quotes

grading
6. Give you further instruction in avoiding plagiarism
7. Write a longer paper that focuses on argumentation/persuasion and high quality
academic research
8. Practice professional presentation of materials and organizing a larger project
Method:
The method we will use for this project is a combination of classroom lectures, practice
assignments, conferencing, in-class writing, and revision. You will most likely need to
do one or more or all of the following: library research, online research, personal
interview(s), and observations. You will never cite yourself in your own work in this or
any other class. Simply using or implying first person is how you incorporate your own
experiences/interest in the topic. Any and all sources that you use to gather research
from whether that is via news/magazine/journal articles; government documents; books;
personal interviews; pamphlets; charts/graphs/photos; video/sound recordings; or any
other type of source will be documented in either MLA or APA. The style you use depends on your choice of topic. Health/Behavioral/Social science topics will be cited in APA and all others in MLA. If you don’t know which style is appropriate be sure to ask! We will learn about both styles in class in the coming weeks and through your reading assignments.
Topics:
For this essay you will choose a topic that presents a problem that needs to be
solved or a position you wish for your reader to support. You must get your topics pre-approved before you begin your research. I encourage you to choose topics that are local in nature for ease of research. You are encouraged to use at least 1 personal interview as one of your minimum of 8 research sources. You will decide whether to use the Toumlin or Rogerian method ofargumentation based on which one is most appropriate for your topic.
Time Frame:
1. Choose topics and place them in the designated drop box by
March 1st.
2. Begin research as soon as your topic is chosen and approved. Set up personal
interviews, and read the materials you find related to your topic. Preliminary research
should be complete by March 25th (preliminary means that you may still need to
research things as you write, but the bulk of your information should be gathered by
March 25th You are expected to bring your list of sources to class on the 25Th so I can
check your progress. As you gather your research sources you should be taking notes
on your reading and keeping track of the citation information for each source you look
at—whether you end up using the source in your paper or not.
3. Also near the 25th begin to write your first draft of your essay. Be sure to do the in-text
( ) citations as you go along so you don’t lose track of what is yours and what belongs
to your sources.
4. Peer Review will be on April 4, 5 and 6 depending on the day of the week your class meets. and I expect you to have a full rough draft of at least 5 full pages for this review. Please bring electronic access or 3 extra copies of your essay to class!
5. Your completed essay and all of the research materials will be due on Sunday, April 17th
In addition to the paper in its grading form, you will turn in a research packet which will include the following:
1.Highlighted copies of all research you used.
2.Works consulted page
3.All notes from the library and classroom discussions
4.All rough drafts and pre-writing work
5.Questions from and transcripts of any personal interviews you conducted
6.Peer review rough draft and any paper copies with peer comments if applicable.
7.Miscellaneous research materials that you feel show your process or experience
with this paper.
No topics are off limits if you are looking at it from an argumentative perspective rather than a personal one. This is not the space for a crusade on any topic, but a place to lay out a logical and well-researched argument that aims to convince your audience of the validity and reason of your position.
Please note that although the essay itself is only 100 points there are approximately an additional 200 points that are attached via ancillary materials, tutoring, and peer review. Do the entire project and you will do well. Skip the side work and you will not do well. As always, please come see me if you need any help at any time.

Crucible Reverend Parris and power anaylisis

The Crucible Character Analysis Essay

Directions:

For your summative essay on The Crucible, you will focus on Reverend Parris
Reverend Parris

Your essay will answer the following questions:

What is the source of Reverend Parris’s power?
How does Arthur Miller build up or break down that power throughout the play?
In what way is Miller’s treatment of that kind of power a critique of society?

Your thesis statement will look something like this:

In the play The Crucible, the source of Rebecca Nurse’s power is honesty. By portraying Rebecca Nurse as a character who is killed because she does not compromise on honesty, Arthur Miller demonstrates that society is generally more interested in control than truth.

The three body paragraphs would discuss three parts of the play where Rebecca’s sense of honesty and truth come into conflict with society, and how at each point society is more interested in power and control than truth and understanding.

Here is an example of a PIE Paragraph Outline: (This outline would later be smoothed into a wonderful paragraph with well-integrated quotes and lovely transitions).

Point 1: Rebecca is honest about the ways and wiles of children.

Illustration 1: (Rebecca’s description of the girls’ behavior in Act. Goody Putnam leaps to the shame and sadness of the deaths of her previous children as a way to dismiss Rebecca’s knowledge and as a way to defend her own daughter’s behavior.)

Explanation 1: The fact that Rebecca must leave the scene without anyone believing her because everyone is still fixated on the girls’ behavior shows the society to be more interested in the spectacle of witchcraft than in the truth of children behaving badly. Their interest tends this way because to admit the truth – that the children were lying – would lay some responsibility on the childrens’ parents to correct that poor behavior. Instead, it is easier for people to blame the nebulous power of a demon whose powers are unknowable and all encompassing than it is to face the truth that people sometimes lie without the devil’s help.

The Step-By-Step

Complete your reading of the play.
Choose a character on which you’ll focus.
Create a working thesis statement based on what you remember from the whole play.
Go back through the play itself to find evidence that supports your thesis.
It’s okay if your thesis changes somewhat based on the evidence. (Maybe at first I thought it was Rebecca’s honesty that was her source of power, but as I go back through the text, I decide instead that Arthur Miller focuses more on motherhood as a source of power for Rebecca. If that’s where all the evidence is, then that’s what I’m going to write about. It’s okay to change your mind based on the evidence!!
Write out the smooth, lovely paragraphs with well-integrated quotes and meaningful transitions.
Create an introduction paragraph that hooks your reader with 2-3 sentences about the big idea (in the example above, that big idea would be honesty), followed by 2 sentences that discuss the importance of honesty in Arthur Miller’s play generally, and finally the thesis statement of 1-2 sentences (5-7 sentences).
Create a conclusion that DOES NOT simply repeat what you have written in the previous three paragraphs (how boring is THAT?). Instead, address the “So What?” question. What does Miller’s play teach us about the tension between truth and power, honesty and control, that is still useful to us today?

Your essay should be 800-1000 words in length.
Your essay should be in MLA format (if you don’t remember basic MLA format, go here).
Your body paragraphs should be ready for peer review on April 8 (A Day Cycle)

Thesis that you can use or you can create your own.

In The Crucible, the source of Reverend Parris’s power is attained by his position as Reverend and by working under Danforth. Contrary to other main characters in Salem, Reverend Parris has innate power due to his position as Reverend, and although he is one of the most powerful people in Salem, Parris still feels persecuted due to his unpopularity in Salem. This leads to Parris working under Judge Danforth in asspirations to gain the town’s respect and power. Consequently, Parris’ fate turns as he finds himself losing everything forcing him to change his opinion on the Trials but for the wrong reasons. By displaying Reverend Parris as a magnate who is willing to risk everything for power and reputation, then showing him losing everything while still being hungry for control, Arthur Miller depicts the quote “Power doesn’t corrupt people, people corrupt power”

Pro gun control

For the final assignment in this class, you will be
composing an original argumentative essay on the topic pro gun control. (Note: The final paper will be an INDIVIDUAL paper – NOT a group paper.)
Length and format:
The final paper is expected to be three
to four pages OF TEXT in length PLUS the Works Cited page, and MUST be in MLA format AND have in-text
citations which show your thorough understanding of the topic. Lack of in-text citations AND a Works
Cited page will be considered plagiarism and receive a failing grade. Take this
seriously.

**NO WIKIPEDIA**

Example:
Customer Segments
Customer Segments are the people an organization wants to serve either through its customers or business alliances (Osterwalder & Pigneur, 2010). As a luxury car representative, Porsche is constantly entering new market segments and provides different and appropriate products or services for each market segment. Porsche uses two variables to determine which customers to target, including description elements and behavioural elements. According to a scholar’s study, “Descriptive elements include demographics, psychology, and geography. Behavioral elements include personal responses to brands, uses, and interests” (Zoeller, 2018). Porsche focuses on a niche market of high-income customers. The characteristics of the high-income class consumer psychology are appreciating the prestige of the brand as well as the new and attractive vehicles Porsche produces.

1. You will attach the canvas to your paper and submit it via Moodle as a proper scholarly paper.

1/2 page for the introduction
1/2 page for each of 3 blocks. (1 1/2 pages total)
1/2 page conclusion,
1 page canvas (as an attachment),
1 page for references.
.
Here is what I am looking for:
20% – Introduce your chosen company briefly. After the introduction, give a thesis statement. In this paper/presentation, I will show how the Blah blah company utilizes the nine building blocks to …
60% – In your own words, explain what each building block means to you. Give an example of the block. Show one element/characteristic the company utilizes. Tie them in from the Scaling Up text to support your work if possible. You must show each chosen block on the canvas as it relates to your company.
20% – Conclusion – Does the company utilize the building blocks? Would you change anything the company does? What is your outlook on the building blocks?
Deductions – Grammar, APA & References
