WRITE AN ESSAY ON A NATION IN TURMOIL
WRITE AN ESSAY ON A NATION IN TURMOIL
Sometimes in history, we have a bad habit of over-simplifying
difficult concepts and of making generalizations that are not borne out
of the facts. In the Civil War, for example, we tend to approach the
issue of slavery believing that everyone in the North wanted slavery to
be abolished, while everyone in the South supported slavery. However, a
theme I emphasize in my classes is that history is complicated because
people are complicated.
Task
Initial Post:
As you have learned more about the people and events leading up to
the Civil War, you have probably learned something about the complexity
of the issues, the complications that do not fit the generalizations.
For your initial posting, write about two
events, opinions, or perhaps documents that did not fit the easy
generalizations that you may have entered this unit believing. Present
these two items as if you are teaching the class about them, explaining
them fully and completely and emphasizing how they break the
generalization. Feel free to be creative: create a power point, a prezi,
etc. if you would like.
Response to classmate
For your response to a classmate’s post, find one that addressed
something you did not address. React to that post either confirming why
you agree that the event/opinion/document counters the generalization or
disagreeing with your classmate, if you feel the event/opinion/document
actually supports the generalization.
Note about your quotations:
Remember that you need to cite your source when you quote from a
reading. Reminder: Quotations should not be more than 10-15% of your
paper. They are not to take the place of your own ideas or thoughts;
they help support your ideas and thoughts. For these readings, use these
in-text citations and these full citations at the end of your postings.
Please see the Citation Help.pdf for guidelines for citing sources.

Download the two spreadsheets named t-test Excel Tutorial Spreadsheet.xlsx, and ANOVA Excel Tutorial Spreadsheet.xlsx
Part II:
Using the data in the INDEPENDENT tab in the t-test Excel Spreadsheet, run an independent samples t-test to see if there is a mean difference in Age First Diagnosed for Males and Females.
Using the data in the PAIRED tab in the t-test Excel Spreadsheet, run a paired samples t-test to see if there is a mean difference in pretest and posttest scores for student who were enrolled in a statistics course.
Using the data in the ANOVA Excel Spreadsheet, run an analysis of variance to see if there is a mean difference in Age First Diagnosed for the three Race categories listed.
*MAKE SURE YOU ANSWER THE QUESTIONS IN THE BOXES ON EACH SPREADSHEET. You can type your responses directly in the boxes.
When you have finished, please save and upload both spreadsheets to Excel Assignment 4 in Blackboard by the end of Module 4.
Please note: unlike previous Excel exercises where the dataset in the Excel exercises was the same as the dataset in the tutorials, this tutorial may have a different dataset than the one shown in the tutorial. The processes for running the t-tests and ANOVA are the same as shown in the video.

Create a Pareto diagram for the time study data. Each process step should have its own time value and they should be visually depicted as bars on your Pareto chart ranked from longest to shortest time.
Create a Fishbone diagram for the largest form of waste in your longest process step. This will help you understand the root causes of this waste that if identified will reduce or even eliminate this waste.
Complete at least 3 cycles of rapid PDCA cycles to eliminate at least 3 causes you identified in your fishbone diagram. Answer the questions for each of the columns in the rapid experiment for each process change you try.
For example, back to the long breakfast-making routine and all its waste motion…Let’s say you identified that one of the causes for this waste was having to look all over your kitchen for spices. You may conduct an experiment on organizing your spices. This could look like this on your Rapid PDCA tracker:
Write a cohesive essay in which you trace the emergence of a modern American identity using the voices of three authors we’ve studied so far.
Write a cohesive essay in which you trace the emergence of a modern American identity using the voices of three authors we’ve studied so far. As you write, consider how the writing either reflects or defines the evolving ideas that contribute to this identity. Remember, too, that at least one of the writers should represent this module’s reading assignment. Submit your paper using the link below before the end of Module Six.
