Part 1

This semester we have encountered various ways in which people use media to try to bring about social change, whether that involves using commercial media for activist purposes, or developing alternative forms of media. Outline at least 2 examples of activist media, and explain how such media interventions can be seen as forms of ‘popular culture.’ Be sure to address theories of popular culture in your answer. A political economy approach stresses that media are shaped by various market-based or capitalist forces, including advertising/consumer culture, ownership structures, and copyright. Graham Murdock argues that we need to take a ‘moral economy’ approach when analyzing the technological dimensions of media systems, including in relation to labor and environmental issues. Explain what Murdock means by ‘moral economy,’ and apply this approach to two case studies or readings from the course. How does a moral economy approach help us to understand and address potential technology-related social issues or problems? Part 2

Academic approaches to Communication & Media Studies can help you to think in new and different ways about the world, about how media work, and about the ways in which your own life is mediated. Looking back over the second semester readings and lectures, what readings or approaches have been most interesting, challenging, or helpful in allowing you to understand your own media experiences in new ways? How specifically have the ideas and approaches you’ve learned in this course shaped your own thinking? Your answer should include detailed explanations of course concepts, and must refer to at least three course readings from the second semester (NOTE: each textbook chapter can count as an individual reading, but you should use no more than two chapters).

Instead of writing your final Problem/Solution speech as an essay, please write your speech within the framework of the outline. That will keep you organized, and I can read it better to see if you filled in enough information within each outline field (within each number and letter.)

Because you are writing this digitally, you can expand the area within the outline to let you write what you need.

If you were to read it out loud, it should be about 5-7 minutes — or slightly more.

Conformity, Compliance, and Obedience

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to explore the differences between conformity, compliance, and obedience. This paper will explore the landmark studies that have set the tone for much of the social psychology research that happens today.

Part I: Basics of Conformity, Compliance, and Obedience. Using at least two scholarly and/or credible sources, respond to the following:
Differentiate between conformity, compliance and obedience
Discuss the landmark studies about conformity (Asch), compliance and obedience (Milgram & Zimbardo)
Provide a brief overview of the research study for each.
Discuss the major findings.
Part II: Critique of the Landmark Study
Select one of the landmark studies and provide an in-depth critique of the research. Identify at least 2 current studies/researchers that expand upon or challenge the findings of that landmark study.
Provide a brief overview of both of the current research studies. Describe how the current studies are different from the landmark study.
Discuss the major findings.
What does the current research tell us about the landmark study? Are the findings from the landmark study still applicable/relevant today?
Part III: Current Applications

How do the concepts of conformity, compliance and obedience manifest in our daily lives? How do these concepts affect the behavior of individuals and groups? Explain and give two examples.
Identify 3 or 4 social norms that are unwritten rules of behavior that we follow anyway (e.g., chewing with your mouth closed). These are things that we do because we “should” but we really don’t know why. See the Social Norm Examples website for examples.
Discuss 2 benefits and 2 risks/consequences/dangers of conformity, compliance and obedience.

Purpose: The objective of this final assessment is for you to fuse all of the individual sections of the research proposal that you have created over the last five weeks into a comprehensive, easy to follow, professional, research proposal. This finished proposal can be a template and primer for future political science research. Importantly, the skills, knowledge, and abilities utilized in the creation of this research proposal are applicable to and necessary for all aspects of political science research.
Prepare: The last five weeks have been spent making the various sections of a professional research proposal, and now your final task is to compile those sections into a polished and functional research product. Therefore, you will need to review all completed sections of your research proposal from the last five weeks and carefully incorporate the feedback received from your instructor. In addition, you should apply the information, processes and procedures discussed and analyzed during the course to refine and improve your proposal. The end product will be both academically and professionally useful.
Reflect: You certainly have been very busy over the last five weeks preparing for this final assessment. You have incrementally designed and created all of the practical parts of a feasible political science research project. The research proposal you create can either serve as very beneficial practice for future research efforts or as a template for a future research project utilizing your completed research proposal. The hard work you have applied in the course will be essential in the capstone course (POL 497) and will serve you well when you enter into the political science profession after graduation. Well done!

This paper offers an SDSec-based approach to provide additional protection based on software defined zones. Different approaches are also discuss and presented. Understanding the nature of ICS/SCADA networks the authors present an approach to limit attacks and attack propagation on physical devices.
