Short Story Essay Charlotte Perkins Gilman, “The Yellow Wallpaper”

Read all material listed in the Learning Activities folder.
Participate in the discussion located at the Discussion Board link on the course menu.
Write an essay of 750-1000 words on the use of a single literary device (from the list of terms in the Learning Activities folder) used within one of the short stories you read for this lesson. Be sure to:
Include an alphanumeric outline.
Use MLA format.
Include a Works Cited page.
Create the essay with the understanding that this is not a book report. Don’t summarize the story, as that is only appropriate for a sentence or two in the introduction. Tell me how a literary device was used in the story.
Cite examples from the story in support of your argument using proper MLA format (quotations for direct citations, as well as parenthetical references for both these and paraphrases).

Charlotte Perkins Gilman, “The Yellow Wallpaper”

Explain relevant course material in a comprehensive way; i.e. no listing making sure that explanation is an integrated part of the answer.

Collaborating has always proven to be effective
particularly in the incidence of crisis. Countries face real challenges at
different levels being it economic, social, health, education, etc. Without
joining efforts between different actors, such challenges cannot be diluted. We
have seen lately the case of the child Ryan in Morocco trapped in a well. His
rescue story although it had a sad ending was not possible without the
collaboration of several agents from different sectors.

Covid-19 pandemic waved a new challenge that countries
were not really ready to face particularly at the health level. Health and
well-being particularly of women and children is one of the sustainable
development goals by 2030. Consequently, the achievement of such goal require more
effective collaboration and joined action across sectors particularly at local
and national levels.

The attached article discusses 12 country case studies
on collaboration across sectors in the era of sustainable development goals. You
are to read the document carefully and answer to the below TMA question.

QUESTION

With
reference to B325 relevant course material and the article, determine the type
of collaboration and explain the main bases for collaborative advantage for
each case. Consequently, identify the outcome of the collaboration; being it
collaborative advantage or collaborative inertia and to which extent
superordinate goals were translated into SMART goals. Your answer needs to be
supported with clear evidence from the article validating your response.
After
having done so, provide a briefing about the health sector in your country and
discuss what actions have been taken particularly at a collaborative level to
work towards the achievement of the sustainable development goals as discussed
in the article. Your answer needs to be supported with relevant references in
this regard (Word limit: 2500 words).
What you need to consider before you start your TMA: Before
starting your TMA, make sure to do your own research and ensure that the
information needed is available. This is very important since the TMA does not
only rely on course material but as well on external resources related to the
health sector in your country and its work towards sustainable development
goals.

Hint:
in your essay, you need to consider the following:

B325 relevant course material: types of collaboration
(public-private; private-private; public-NGO; private-NGO; a combination of
sectors, etc.); bases for collaborative advantage; outcome of collaboration
(collaborative advantage or collaborative inertia); superordinate goals and
goal setting (SMART goals).

Explain relevant course material in a comprehensive
way; i.e. no listing making sure that explanation is an integrated part of the
answer.

Identify for each case in the article the type of
collaboration; the bases for collaborative advantage; the outcome of
collaboration; and whether superordinate goals were translated into SMART goals.

It is not enough to identify each element but you need
to provide a clear statement/sentence from the article validating your
discussion. Such statement needs to be put between quotations.

Provide a briefing about the health sector in your
country and how it worked towards supporting/improving the health and
well-being of women, children and achieving such sustainable development goal
by 2030. In case, your country does not support such goal you are to clearly
explain why and provide recommendations in this regard basing your discussion
on the experience of the provided 12 cases in the article.

You have a plus or minus 10% with regard to word count

PAY ATTENTION:

Do not to copy information as is neither from the
course material nor from the article or external resources you refer to. You
are to provide a discussion and demonstrate understanding of various concepts
and not just list and describe.

YOU MUST REFER TO B325 COURSE MATERIAL, THE ARTICLE
AND NATIONAL HEALTH SECTOR AND COLLABORATION DONE IN THIS REGARD and additional
readings related to sustainable development goals and their importance.

Remember to cite your sources in the text and to
prepare a table of references at the end.

Referring to course material alone is not enough.
Referring to article alone or external resources alone is not enough. You need
to use the course material, the article and chosen external resources.

GUIDANCE:

Your answer should
be written in an essay format.

In the
introduction, you may reflect on an overview of the topic along with an outline
of your answer.

The body text may
be divided into two parts; one part explaining relevant course material
comprehensively from a theoretical point of view while discussing the article
in line of these theories and providing supportive evidence from the article;
the second part where you will provide a briefing on the national health sector
and its contribution to collaboration in the field. A comparison (critical
comparison) between the 12 cases, and the 12 cases and the national context is
to be provided as well.

The conclusion can
summarize the discussion and open a discussion towards the importance of
achieving sustainable development goals particularly at the level of health and
well-being.

Walmart Gets Serious about E-Commerce
As the world’s largest retailer, Walmart has built thousands of brick-and-mortar stores in the United States, Mexico, and elsewhere. Although a success story when it comes to traditional retail locations, Walmart has struggled with its e-commerce efforts, with recent online sales accounting for about 3 percent of the company’s $300 billion in annual sales. The company has tried several different e-commerce strategies in the past, but none of them was an overwhelming success. Some company insiders objected to the pricing strategy used for online purchases; they were fearful that Walmart’s lower prices online would take customers (and sales) away from the retail locations.
Doug McMillon, Walmart’s CEO since 2014, believed a significant change was needed in the company’s e-commerce business, and he recently made changes in a big way. Over the past two years, Walmart spent billions to acquire several online companies to expand its e-commerce business in an effort to take a small bite out of retail giant Amazon’s success. In 2016, Walmart purchased Jet.com, an e-commerce site that sells a little bit of everything (books, clothing, electronics, etc.) at discount prices. Once the $3 billion acquisition was completed, Jet’s co-founder and CEO, Marc Lore, who now runs Walmart’s e-commerce platform, worked with McMillon to identify other established online companies to add to their e-commerce portfolio and add they did.
First Walmart purchased footwear e-tailer ShoeBuy for $70 million in January 2017. The following month, Walmart bought outdoor specialty retailer Moosejaw for $51 million. Then in March, Walmart paid $75 million for ModCloth, an eclectic shopping site for women’s fashions. Walmart is also said to be in negotiations to buy Bonobos, a hip fashion retailer geared to millennial males.
Reaction to the acquisitions has been mixed, depending on whom you ask. Retail analysts applaud the company’s radical move, pointing out that several well-known traditional retailers have closed their doors or filed bankruptcy because they failed to take part in the e-commerce revolution. Fashionistas, on the other hand, are lukewarm about the move. However, McMillon’s decision to allow online retailers to operate independently may help retain loyal customers. The new e-commerce strategy may also lure typical in-store shoppers to take advantage of the expanded offerings available through both Walmart.com and Jet.com.
Critical Thinking Questions
What are some advantages of Walmart purchasing established web businesses?
What impact is Walmart’s acquisition of nontraditional retailers likely to have on the shopping habits of Walmart’s customers?
How will the aggressive e-commerce plan implemented by Walmart affect operations at its retail locations?

The Research Paper
The required length for this assignment is 2000 words. Papers notably longer or shorter than the required length (more than +/- 300 words) will be penalized. As in the proposal, please follow the standard format for papers. Use only one side of the paper, double space, choose a legible 12 point font, and leave enough room in the margins (one inch minimum) for comments. The title of your paper, your name, student number, the course name and the date of submission should appear on the title page. Please staple the papers together.
The research paper should present an argument, supported by proper evidence. Do not submit a simple narrative of the events described in your sources.
A good paper has an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. The introduction explains why the topic of the paper is of interest, articulates the thesis, and may include a general outline of the supporting arguments. The body of the paper draws on evidence from published scholarly sources on the topic and presents the evidence in an analytical and systematic fashion to support the thesis presented in the introduction. The conclusion summarizes the findings of the paper and may also include some generalizations about the broader significance of these findings.
As you craft your paper, be aware that other arguments often have a great deal of credibility. The best authors present alternative interpretations and opposing arguments, and weigh them against their own. Doing so demonstrates an understanding of the historical debates surrounding the topic, as well as the ability to evaluate the evidence and discern the merits of alternative viewpoints.
Remember to place quotations within quotation marks, and to cite your sources in footnotes or endnotes. Provide footnotes or endnotes for all quotations, paraphrases, statistics, interpretations, and facts that are not common knowledge. All papers must include footnotes (or endnotes) and a bibliography. Failure to properly document sources constitutes plagiarism. Plagiarism is a serious academic offense which carries significant penalties.
If you missed the class on essay writing, it is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with the standards of academic integrity. I am available to assist you during office hours. If you cannot see me during office hours, schedule an appointment.
As in the proposal, you must make use of a minimum of four scholarly sources, including at least one book. Since this is an independent research project, it should be based upon your own research and should not make extensive use of the course lectures.
Lastly, the paper should be written in proper English and be attentive to matters of style, grammar, spelling, and overall clarity of expression. Grammar, spelling, and style will figure prominently in your instructor’s evaluation of your paper. A good paper is not a first draft. Always proofread and edit your paper carefully before submitting it.
