Part 1 Disaster Funding
Imagine a disaster involving erosion or weathering of land has just occur at your location (Examples: Flood, mudslide, landslide, rock-slide, collapse of a hillside from rain). This disaster has occurred in the past due to weathering and it may occur again in the future if more erosion occurs. Federal money and resources will be going to repair and help the people affected to recover. Your task is to argue whether the federal funds and resources should be allocated and used to rebuild the location affected or relocate residents away from the potentially dangerous area. Part 3 The future of Glaciers

For this assignment, create a presentation of your proposed marketing approach for your new venture. 3) The three types of analysis are CONVERSATION ANALYSIS, STANCE, and SPEECH ACTS.
4) My suggestion is to go through all your SECOND turns (usually the NON-institutional person–caller, defendant, witness, etc.) and mark each turn as a preferred or dispreferred response and a preferred or dispreferred FORMAT and explain WHY for each one.
5) Then go through both turns for stance markers–look for words that show how one person is categorizing themselves or others. So like…Amanda Berry says “I was kidnapped, but I’m here, I’m free now!” Kidnapped and free are words she uses to position herself –what she WAS and what she IS NOW. Stances are ways we mark people as fitting into one category or another. So if someone uses a racial or age category–that’s a stance, but also if someone says they’re “angry” or “uncomfortable” that is also a stance.
6) Finally, go through all the first turns (usually the institutional person–the police officer, operator, etc.) and mark their speech acts. Are they questions? Are they declarative? Are they imperatives? Do they look like what they are (direct speech acts)–so like it looks like a command (Take a left here!) and it functions as a command OR does it look like a statement (you seem upset) but function as a command (calm down)?

So I stopped the line by line around line 12, but I made a couple other comments on the doc later than line 12. That said–the things that I fixed or questioned in line 1-12 are things to look at across the whole document.
1) Some of your speech acts are incorrect and need another look, and some of your speech acts are correct but you didn’t name them. So check these over. You may want to go over speech acts with me to be sure you’re getting it right.
2) Stance–you don’t really do any stance analysis, and you need to. How does Amanda position herself? How does the operator position her?
3) You have preferred and dispreferred responses and formats locked down. Those look good.
Come by office hours or stay behind in class to discuss the speech acts and stance. Good start.
