Explain how Writing instructions is an important type of technical writing. It is essential that the instructions are ethical and honest, as well as clear so that the user can safely complete the stated task.
For this assignment, you will provide clear, original instructions to complete an activity. Your assignment should be professionally presented and allow the reader to safely and accurately complete a task.
Include a title, introduction, and list of required materials before providing the instructions.
Include at least 12 steps, with some steps nested.
Use at least three (3) images to aid your reader.
Commands must begin with imperative verbs.
Include at least two (2) notes, warnings, or cautions.
Effectively use white space.
For the assignment, I recommend writing the instructions for a task that you can complete while you are jotting down the instructions. It will make the process much easier. Processes that you may not use for this assignment:
Changing the oil or a tire on a car
Cooking a published recipe. (If you have your own recipe, that is fine, but don’t use something someone else has written).
Writing instructions for something that you already have instructions to complete (If you have the manual, choose another option).
Writing instructions for something that the object producer has posted instructions to do on the internet (like changing the setting on an email account)
I also recommend not doing too much. For example, building a computer is too much, but if you want to reapply thermal paste, that is fine.
The assignment should be single-spaced, include page numbers, have an APA cover page, and be professionally written with accurate grammar, words, and punctuation.
The following assignments help with completing this assignment. Use one process for all three assignments, and check your feedback after the first two assignments before beginning the next assignment. (If for any reason I get behind, and you do not have 48 hours before the next submission is due to use the feedback, I will move the due date to allow you to apply the feedback). To check your feedback, return to the assignment submission page and look for comments on the submission pane or in a file. If for some reason you cannot find the feedback, please let me know via email and I will make sure to send the file or images so that you can use the feedback for your assignment.
Develop an essay that sets side by side for analysis two ways of seeing the same thing. One model for this is Mark Twain’s “Two Ways of Seeing a River.”
Develop an essay that sets side by side for analysis two ways of seeing the same thing. One model for this is Mark Twain’s “Two Ways of Seeing a River.” See that file in the COMPARISON / CONTRAST module. Twain worked on a steamboat as a pilot before he became a famous novelist and humorist. His essay shows how he came to see in two different ways one thing CENTRAL to his job: the river, itself.
Twain has a BASIS for juxtaposing the river—his personal engagement with it. To explain, when he was a novice on the river and the job was new to him, he saw the river’s features emotionally. In the first part of the essay, all the miniscule features of the river’s surface—especially at sundown in the fading light—connected to his appreciation of natural beauty, his idealized and romanticized (and even naïve) attraction to the colors, movements, and other elements of the water. Using subjective descriiption, Twain writes poetically (some might say gushingly, though beautifully) about these details and reveals his own personal reaction to each detail’s lovely aesthetic [look it up] quality.
In the second part of the essay, though, Twain acknowledges how time and experience impact one’s engagement with a part of his or her world—in Twain’s case, the river which was THE source and location of his job. Notice how his elegant and poetic language from the essay’s first half shifts to a more objective and technical accounting of the very same details he first rhapsodizes [look it up] about. From the perspective of a veteran steamboat pilot, now, he sees the river more professionally and addresses the VERY SAME colors and movements and other elements of the water in light of his appreciation for their practical application to his job—avoiding a catastrophe in the river. Indeed, wrecks of 19th-century commercial river vessels litter the bottoms of the Mississippi, Ohio, Missouri and other major rivers.
