Review of Research and Practice

Review of Research and Practice
This assignment requires you to explore how early intervention and prevention (EIP) programs positively impact communities, families and children (birth to 8 years) by critically analysing research and practice in an allocated area of adversity or vulnerability. You will compare how two projects influence communities’ capacities and families’ capabilities to support children’s (birth to 8 years) development, health and well-being.

There are two projects below relevant to your focus area to critically analyse and compare:
Topic (area of vulnerability): children who experience unstable housing and homelessness.
A Research Project: “Effects of a Brief Parenting Intervention In Shelters For Mothers And Their Children Experiencing Homelessness” (in the attachment)
B Practice Project: an interview is SWSLHD transition to school program, and I focus on the mental health in the program. (transcription in the attachment)

All essentail readings are in the attachment.

Thank you!

Applying Principles of Coaching Science

1. The first file SD0609 Assessment Brief is the assessment brief

Sociology video reaction and analysis from one of the theoretical perspectives.

Write a 1 page summary and reaction to the video.

Page 2 and forward: Analyze the video based on ONE of the theoretical perspectives: Structural functionalism, Symbolic Interactionism, or Conflict. The choice is yours. Choose the perspective you are most comfortable with and, along with your notes and textbook, analyze the video. Make sure your examples are clear and that your explanations are thorough. Your explanation could seal the deal for you! You must clearly justify why your example is in line with the chosen perspective. DO NOT provide examples about different perspectives. You must choose only one.

FEMINIST FILM

Analyze a feminist film (or TV series) of your choice and write a 3-page, double-spaced, typed reflection. If you have access to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, YouTube, etc. then this assignment might be easier. In the reflection, you might want to think about the following:

The plot summary, key characters, events, and themes
Why do you think this film (or TV series) is feminist in content in your opinion?
Do you like or don’t like the film (or TV series)?
Does the film (or TV series) inspire you or not?
Any criticism you might have of the film (or TV series)
Interesting soundtrack, cinematography, costumes, special effects, etc.

You don’t have to discuss all these points, but the list can help you to think about the film (or TV series) as you are watching and analyzing it.

Letter to a Theorist Assignment

OVERVIEW:
We can understand the Academy as a site in which scholars converse with each other
through publications. This assignment embodies the spirit of dialogue that has been
essential to the development of contemporary social theory.
The goal of this assignment is to imagine yourself in direct dialogue with one of the
theorists from the course. Choose from Serano, Walters, Oliver, Ladd, Nibert, Hardy,
Palmater, or Tuck and Yang.
GRADING CRITERIA:
1) Describe your interest in the author’s work. What specifically interests you or
strikes you about their ideas? Imagine that you are writing directly to the theorist. Refer
back to the chapter or article to ground your comments. (Use in-text citations as you
would for any academic assignment.)
2) Ask the author at least three questions related to their work. This is a chance to
demonstrate a keen understanding of the author’s ideas and pose questions that the work
raises for you. What would you ask the scholar, if you had the opportunity?
3) Introduce the theorist to one other author featured in SOCI 3P01 from previous
weeks whom you have not already discussed in an assignment. (In other words, do not
write about Ristić and Marinković, Davis and Mendieta, or Zoellick.) Elaborate on how
you understand their work as related, and why you feel the theorist might be interested in
their ideas.
SPECIFICATIONS:
Write the assignment in letter format. 5 pages (5 pages minimum, 6 pages maximum),
12 pt font, 1-inch margins, double-spaced. APA or ASA citation style. No references list
is required unless outside sources are used. No cover page required. (Put title, name,
student number, and date on the first page, top left corner). Include page numbers. The
prose should be coherent and cohesive throughout. As with all assignments, marks will
be lost for incorrect spelling and grammar. OVERVIEW:

Write an essay on Neanderthals and Denisovans

INTRODUCTION:
You have now watched all three episodes of “Becoming Human,” a documentary series on human evolution. In the previous module, we watched the first two episodes and in our introduction to the first episode there was a brief discussion of one of the claims presented, namely that research showed the brain of early hominins had similarities to human brains that living primates like chimpanzees do not. Remember from that discussion that the claims presented in the video were criticized in peer-reviewed research that came out after the video aired.
You have just completed watching the final episode of the series on Neanderthals and modern humans, “Last Human Standing.” However, when the documentary aired in 2009, the research on paleogenomics was only just starting and what the video claims is no longer current. Late in the episode the narrator states, “With no evidence of interbreeding, it now seems more likely that as our population grew, we simply pushed the Neanderthals out of their environments.” Paleogenomic research since this time paints a very different picture of what happened, not only with Neanderthals, but with a second species of hominins known as the Denisovans, who are described in this Leakey Foundation podcast you can listen to for free, LINK: (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/episode-40-the-denisovans/id982555930?i=1000458172596). Svante Pääbo, the Swedish geneticist who appeared in “Last Human Standing” has led the paleogenomic research, and with his team has been responsible for the new discoveries. Many of the most significant findings since the “Becoming Human” documentary aired are discussed by Pääbo in this lecture: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4TLaRSJN2k&t=22s

WRITING INSTRUCTIONS:
Watch and listen to Pääbo’s lecture above. He will review some of the important paleogenomic discoveries that occurred after “Last Human Standing” was made. As Pääbo goes through his research timeline, you will understand why the information in the “Becoming Human” documentary is wrong given what we now know. Although the lecture is intended for a general audience, some things he discusses will be challenging for you. Don’t worry if you don’t understand everything in the lecture, just keep listening and he will cover the essential findings. Even more recently, Pääbo and co-author Hugo Zeberg have asserted a connection between severe COVID-19 cases and the Neanderthal genome, LINK: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-020-2818-3
After you have finished listening to the lecture you will write a 700 word update on the what the genetics research on the Neanderthals and Denisovans now shows us about those species and about our own. In your response, you should answer the following series of questions:
– Who are the Neanderthals and the Denisovans?
– What does the “Last Human Standing ” documentary (THE DOCUMENTARY CAN BE FOUND ON GOOGLE) say about the paleogenetic research on Neanderthals and Denisovans? Why did the documentary get it wrong? What has happened since the documentary aired? Discuss some information from the lecture by Svante Pääbo to update the film.
– What does ancient DNA (aDNA) teach us about each of these species? Which human populations are they connected to?
– What can their genomes tell us about their population structures?
– What does this research show us about our own evolutionary trajectory as modern humans?
– Finally, use the internet to find a news article describing recent (2020-2021) paleogenetic research findings related to either Neanderthals or Denisovans. Describe the findings and explain why they are significant
As always, you are welcome to exceed the length requirement (your response should simply be more than 700 words long). When you are finished, place a word count at the bottom of your assignment that looks like this:

[768 Words]

You should use APA citations and references for any sources you use in your paper.

Social Media for Children: Threat or Opportunity?

The paper should explain the pros and cons of social media as well as it efforts on the younger generation. The paper should conain an abstract as well as the paper. The paper needs to have the key concept of social media and its effects that it has on the younger generation.

Data Validation

As we learn to create templates or workbook models, much of our focus will be on data validation. This process checks data as it is entered into a spreadsheet and compares it to predefined rules to see if it matches the requirements. Do some research and find a resource about data validation and why it is important to your work. How many ways are there to validate the data that gets into a workbook? Please use an example!
