Explain, addressing each of the three points listed.

On page 247 of our text, the crack writing team of Starr and Waterman give us the following nugget of truth:

“The emergence of rock ‘n’ roll was surely an event of great significance in cultural terms. Because of its importance, we must be careful not to mythologize it or to endorse common misconceptions about it. In particular, the following issues demand our attention: first, rock ‘n’ roll was neither a ‘new’ style of music, nor any single style of music; second, the era of rock ‘n’ roll does not mark the first time that music was written specifically to appeal to young people; and third, rock ‘n’ roll is certainly not the first American music to bring black and white popular styles into close interaction.”

Explain, addressing each of the three points listed. I’m not concerned with the minutiae, but use examples from the styles and decades we’ve covered so far. Use your book and any other credible sources you see fit.

Plato and Machiavelli are arguably both virtue theorists but they disagree about whether the virtues are the same for all of us. What is a virtue (for the ancient Greeks)? How is Machiavelli’s account of virtue different?

Answer one of the following questions in a short essay of about 1000-1200 words (about four pages). As each question suggests, the answer needs to be connected to the texts. Make connections using references to the text, and short quotes to support your paper’s claims:

1. Plato and Machiavelli are arguably both virtue theorists but they disagree about whether the virtues are the same for all of us. What is a virtue (for the ancient Greeks)? How is Machiavelli’s account of virtue different?

2. You have been appointed sovereign of Notropia, a small country consisting of several islands. Recently, there has been an insurrection on one of the islands, and the inhabitants of that island have declared independence. What actions should you take as sovereign? You should explain the reasons for your actions by drawing on any two of Plato, Machiavelli or Hobbes.

3. Is Hobbes’ sovereign Machiavelli’s prince? How might Hobbes’ account of sovereign power be considered a general account of Machiavelli’s advice to princes? In what significant ways do the accounts differ?

What does an organization stand to gain if it can work through the growing pains of implementation?

This week’s readings outlined the benefits and challenges to organizations implementing work-life policies. An organization can create policies, but cultural change requires more than just a change in policy. As your reading points out:
Policies are sometimes under-utilized by career-oriented professionals.
Users may face stigma; career backlash; glass ceiling effect.
Policy use is sometimes not supported by management.
Absenteeism, supervision, equity, performance, customer service and the overall creation of more work for managers who have to coordinate the implications of more complex policies are among the most prevalent concerns of among management when considering the implementation of these types of policies.
Given the valid concerns, what are the benefits—both tangible and to the culture of an organization that undertakes the adoption of policies designed to help employees with work-life balance? What does an organization stand to gain if it can work through the growing pains of implementation? Have you worked as an employee—have you worked for an employer who offered work-life policies? How were they implemented? Were you able to use them? Discuss your experiences as they relate to what you’ve read.

Discuss in detail how the case manager incorporates the implementation phase with their client.

University of Houston-Downtown Social Work Program
Course: # 3313 Case Management Adjunct Instructor: Angela M. Goins, LMSW
Paper # 1 Rubric/Instructions Case Manager Interview-Due On-Line
This assignment is 15 % of your overall grade.
Each student is required to interview a case manager in the field of social work. The case manager must choose a practitioner who holds either a LBSW, LMSW or LCSW. If they are not licensed, you can still interview them. But, they have to have a social work degree. The student chooses an area of social work where case management is conducted by the practitioner. Areas of case management to choose from include but not limited to working with clients with mental health issues, HIV, youth at risk, children in foster care, elderly in nursing homes just to name a few examples.
The interview can be either over the phone or in person. Interviews in person, however, tend to provide a richer experience. This assignment will require time outside of the classroom. Included in the rubric are 14 areas that you will develop your own questions to ask the case manager. Their answers and reflections to the questions and your own written reflection of the experience will be at least 4 to 5 pages (not including the title page and the reference page). The paper can be longer if you desire. Be sure to inform the case manager before the interview that this interview may last between 30 to 45 minutes.
This assignment will provide students the unique opportunity to practice interviewing skills with social work professionals who do
case management already in the community. It will also provide the student with the opportunity to apply case management concepts, phases, models, goals, principles and components learned in class to actual “real world” experiences of case management practice. You will also have the ability to observe and learn the dimensions of values, skills, knowledge, affective and cognitive processing that is required as a social worker through your interviews with your case managers. (We will discuss these dimensions more in class.
If you use outside references in your paper, be sure to cite the references and give credit in APA style.
The paper is comprised of two parts:
1. The 14 discussion areas listed below are provided for the actual interview you will conduct and must be covered in your interview. These areas will address information about the case manager and the type of case management that the interviewee does in the community. YOU DEVELOP YOUR OWN QUESTIONS. This exercise allows you the opportunity to develop skills in interviewing and communicating with other professionals. You will then be required to apply your interview answers as they pertain to case management concepts. You must address all 14 areas fully in order to get credit for this assignment.
2. After you address these required areas, you will write a short reflection of this experience and what you learned about case management as a technique used in the social work profession. This section of the paper can address any observations, reflections and knowledge received during this interview.

Identify the issue’s significance for international sport managers.

Having learned how sport is organized, managed, funded, and governed in different world regions, as well as their underpinning cultural considerations, you are to identify a current issue in sport management within a specific nation or world region. You can choose from a wide range of issues/topics, (i.e.: global sponsorships and endorsements, financing, corruption, FIFA, the Olympics, governing bodies/sport governance issues, the growth of a specific sport, sport and politics, sport and COVID-19, or another issue of your choice), but choose one that is of interest. However, it must be an international sport issue impacting the world. You will then be asked to provide a solution to the identified issue. Your research paper will be organized as follows:
In part I, you are to introduce the selected issue. Provide and introduction and overview of the topic. Also discuss why you choose this subject. Identify the issue’s significance for international sport managers. In other words, answer why is it an issue of concern for the world?
For part II, you are to present an overview of the literature that has been published on this issue. Consult the Drexel library website as well as Google Scholar for your research; do not just look for popular culture articles and news websites. After completing your research, explain what the published literature says concerning this issue. You should be researching and analyzing this issue from a business, governance, economic, political, and cultural standpoint. This section should include sub-sections where you discuss your research and analysis from these various standpoints.
In part III, you will propose your recommendations to address the selected issue based on your research and understanding of the topic. This section should be organized so that you explain your recommendation in a detailed manner. I am not looking for generalities. Assess how your suggested solution will address the issue. In other words, why would this be an effective solution? This should be a practical solution; you will also want to address the cultural context of this issue.
Part IV will be your conclusion, where you summarize each previous section of your research paper. You should also explain why addressing this issue will help the world of global sport. Finish with a few concluding remarks.
